{"id":199035,"date":"2015-11-10T21:19:35","date_gmt":"2015-11-10T21:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=199035"},"modified":"2015-11-10T21:19:35","modified_gmt":"2015-11-10T21:19:35","slug":"uk-denies-palestinian-medical-experts-entry-visas-speak-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/uk-denies-palestinian-medical-experts-entry-visas-speak-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"UK denies Palestinian medical experts entry-visas to speak at conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Britain has denied entry visas to a group of Palestinian medical professionals expected to speak at a conference on mental health at Kingston University, South West London.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Four mental health professionals employed by the Ministry of Health in Gaza, who were booked to speak at the event this weekend, were denied visas by British authorities, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/home-news\/uk-decision-to-refuse-gaza-medical-experts-from-joining-kingston-university-conference-condemned-by-a6727576.html\">Independent<\/a>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n<p>A psychologist from Bethlehem University, Dr Nahida Al-Arja, also had her visa application rejected.<\/p>\n<p>It remains unclear why the applications of Ministry of Health employees were rejected, though the Independent indicates Dr Al-Arja\u2019s visa was denied because she did not complete the application properly.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/f-HlMUxkssk\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\">The conference is meant to bring together groups of mental health workers, social workers and academics to <em>\u201cevaluate mental health practices in war zones.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The UK Palestine Mental Health Network, co-organizers of the conference, wrote of the decision in the Independent: <em>\u201cWe urge the UK authorities to reverse this decision immediately, and to nurture, rather than undermine, urgently needed psycho-social support services for the people of Gaza.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/320203-palestine-israel-icc-evidence\/\">READ MORE:\u00a0Palestinians file new evidence of Israeli \u2018war crimes\u2019 to International Criminal Court<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The conference\u2019s co-organizer and Palestine Trauma Centre (PTC) director Dr Mohamed Altawil said: <em>\u201cThis refusal is completely unjustified and a direct abuse of basic human rights. Neither will it help peace and conflict resolution in the area.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe people from Gaza were being sponsored by the World Health Organization to come to the UK. The British consulate in Amman refused them because they thought if they arrived in London, they might not go back to Gaza. Another reason, they said that they do not have sufficient finances.
