{"id":18822,"date":"2013-01-08T08:47:54","date_gmt":"2013-01-08T07:47:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/soldier-shot-dead-afghanistan-074754208.html"},"modified":"2013-01-08T08:47:54","modified_gmt":"2013-01-08T07:47:54","slug":"soldier-shot-dead-in-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/soldier-shot-dead-in-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"Soldier shot dead in Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"first\">A British soldier has been killed by a suspected member of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said.<\/p>\n<p>The suspected ANA member used small arms fire first on his colleagues, before turning his weapon on the International Security Assistance Force soldiers in Patrol Base Hazrat in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province.<\/p>\n<p>Return fire then killed the gunman at the scene, a spokesman for the MoD added. It said the attack happened on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Major Laurence Roche, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: &#8220;It is my painful duty to report the death of a soldier from 28 Engineer Regiment, who was shot and killed by a suspected member of the Afghan National Army at a patrol base in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an extremely sad day for the Corps of Royal Engineers and everyone serving with Task Force Helmand.
