{"id":178121,"date":"2015-09-03T15:59:22","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T15:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=178121"},"modified":"2015-09-03T15:59:22","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T15:59:22","slug":"probe-ordered-hiv-clinic-london-reveals-patients-identities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/probe-ordered-hiv-clinic-london-reveals-patients-identities\/","title":{"rendered":"Probe ordered after HIV clinic in London reveals patients&#8217; identities"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>The UK\u2019s health secretary has ordered a probe into breach of the privacy of hundreds of HIV patients whose confidential details were leaked by a clinic in London.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Hunt called for the inquiry after the 56 Dean Street clinic in\u00a0London\u00a0accidentally posted names and email addresses of some 780 HIV patients on its online newsletter on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Hunt said the Care Quality Commission would conduct \u201ca thorough and independent review\u201d of data security measures in the NHS. \u201cThe inquiry was vital to ensure patients could be confident that the health service will properly safeguard details of their health and treatment records\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic, which is run by the Chelsea and Westminster NHS trust, apologized for disclosing names of the patients and admitted on Wednesday that the breach was a &#8220;devastating&#8221;. \u00a0Alan McOwan, the clinic&#8217;s consultant and lead clinician called the incident as human error stressing that not everybody on the list had HIV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe deleted the email as soon as we realized what had happened. If it is still in your inbox please delete it immediately. Clearly this is completely unacceptable. We are urgently investigating how this has happened and I promise you that we will take steps to ensure it never happens again.
