{"id":175682,"date":"2015-08-25T19:30:55","date_gmt":"2015-08-25T19:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=175682"},"modified":"2015-08-25T19:37:39","modified_gmt":"2015-08-25T19:37:39","slug":"doublespeak-establishment-controlled-labour-terrified-corbyn-want-block-110000-voters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/politics\/doublespeak-establishment-controlled-labour-terrified-corbyn-want-block-110000-voters\/","title":{"rendered":"Doublespeak from an establishment controlled Labour so terrified of Corbyn they want to block 110,000 voters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Labour explores political cannibalism as\u00a0it attempts to smear\u00a0the dramatic swell in numbers as Tory sabotage\u00a0instead of support for Jeremy Corbyn.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>###<\/p>\n<p>Some 110,000 supporters of the Labour Party currently registered to vote in the upcoming leadership election could be barred from taking part, interim party leader Harriet Harman has said.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>To date, 3,000 registered supporters have been blocked due to fears of \u201c<em>entryism,\u201d<\/em> but the figure could soon rise, meaning only half a million will be permitted to vote \u2014 more than 100,000 fewer than the total number registered to vote.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after meeting with the four leadership candidates at a hustings in Sunderland, Harman said the rival Tories and other individuals who had attempted to enter the ballot to sabotage the outcome were neither <em>\u201cfunny nor clever.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Her remarks come as Labour officials revealed they are considering a new range of measures to root out any potential entryists who signed up in an attempt to block the party from winning in 2020.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DegK9wpyjoE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\">Asked how many registered supporters would be allowed to vote, Harman said it would be fewer than 600,000.<br \/>\n<em>\u201cIt will be fewer than 600,000. It will be over half a million,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are up to about 3,000 now but the process is under way, so we expect it to [find] more as it goes along.<\/em><em>\u201cObviously a number of people find they can\u2019t vote because they are not on the electoral register \u2014 which is in addition to those 3,000 \u2014 but about 3,000 have been ruled ineligible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI would emphasize that it\u2019s not Labour Party staff doing this, it is actually a panel of the national executive committee, who are people elected onto the national executive committee.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The party released a six-page briefing on Tuesday explaining how the leadership election is being conducted, which states that so far 553,954 people are eligible to vote in the contest.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/312652-cooper-iraq-isis-chilcot\/\">READ MORE:\u00a0No more military action against ISIS until Iraq War report published \u2014 Labour\u2019s Cooper<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is currently 57,000 fewer than the figures released on the sign-up deadline day.<\/p>\n<p>The briefing stated: <em>\u201cThe headline figures are different now from those given recently mainly because:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; People not being on the electoral register. On average this was about 15 percent of applications.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; Duplication of Affiliate and Registered Supporters, or who were already members.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; Members not being eligible because they are in arrears.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many of the people being blocked are thought to be new members and supporters of Jeremy Corbyn. Harman rejected claims the left-wing candidate\u2019s supporters were being <em>\u201cpurged.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn undertaking these processes, we are completely impartial, the question is not which candidate you support, but do you support the aims and values of the Labour Party.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/312257-labour-camps-election-meeting\/\">READ MORE:\u00a0Labour leadership campaigns summoned to emergency meeting to quell fears over contest\u2019s credibility<br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cI want to absolutely assert, the party has been completely impartial as between the candidates but the party is not agnostic about the 2014 rules. The question is not which candidate you support. The question is do you support the aims and values of the Labour Party,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n<p>Corbyn told the BBC the notion of Tory infiltrators was <em>\u201cnonsense.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAre there any Tory infiltrators? I think there\u2019s been a lot of nonsense in the papers. About 600,000 people have either joined the Labour Party or signed up as supporters.
