{"id":1736,"date":"2007-11-14T13:58:19","date_gmt":"2007-11-14T13:58:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/fbi-blackwater-shootings-unwarranted\/1736\/"},"modified":"2007-11-14T13:58:19","modified_gmt":"2007-11-14T13:58:19","slug":"fbi-blackwater-shootings-unwarranted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/fbi-blackwater-shootings-unwarranted\/","title":{"rendered":"FBI: Blackwater shootings &#8216;unwarranted&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span id=\"intelliTXT\">Most of the shots fired by private U.S. security firm Blackwater that killed 17 civilians in Baghdad Sept. 16 were unwarranted, a preliminary FBI report says.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said in a report now under review by the Justice Department as many as five of the company&#8217;s guards opened fire during the shootings, and as many as 14 of the deaths were unnecessary, the New York Times reported Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t call it a massacre, but to say it was unwarranted is an understatement,&#8221; one official who asked not to be identified told the Times.<\/p>\n<p>The company said its guards opened fire when they perceived a security threat to their four-car convoy, and denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>A separate U.S. military review of the shootings concluded all of the killings were unjustified and potentially criminal, the Times said, although prosecutors have yet to decide whether to seek indictments.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
