London\u2019s Scotland Yard police station, site of the original Jack the Ripper investigations, is to be converted into a \u00a310,000 per night luxury hotel in a \u00a3110 million deal involving UK property developer Galliard and the Dubai-based LuLu group.<\/p>\n
The historical buildings, once the venue for some of the country\u2019s most notorious investigations, will be turned into a five star hotel.<\/p>\n
The Yard will undergo a \u00a350 million (US$77.9 million) refurbishment and will employ up to 250 staff when it opens in 2017.<\/p>\n
The cells and meeting room once used by early generations of London coppers \u2014 still known as \u2018Bobbys<\/em>\u2019 and \u2018Peelers<\/em>\u2019 after the force\u2019s founder Sir Robert Peel \u2014 will contain two bars, a library, luxury rooms and dining facilities.<\/p>\n It will be operated by the Steigenberger Hotel Group.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Great Scotland Yard Hotel will be a brand synonymous with exceptional service and refined luxury and quality,<\/em>\u201d Galliard Director Don O\u2019Sullivan told the Guardian.<\/p>\n Between 1829 and 1890 it was the Metropolitan Police\u2019s headquarters and regularly appeared in Arthur Conan Doyle\u2019s \u2018Sherlock Holmes<\/em>\u2019 novels.<\/p>\n It also served as the base of the original 1888 investigation into the Ripper murders in London\u2019s East End and later as the headquarters of the Royal Military Police for a time.<\/p>\n It is reputed to have been the place where Lord Kitchener made his famous \u201cYour Country Needs You<\/em>\u201d statement in an effort to recruit soldiers in the run up to the First World War before being used as a Library by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).<\/p>\n The LuLu group is headed by Middle East-based businessman Yusuffali Kader who, with an estimated fortune of $2.5 billion, is one of India\u2019s richest men.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Via RT<\/a>.\u00a0This piece was reprinted by RINF Alternative News<\/a> with permission or license.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" London\u2019s Scotland Yard police station, site of the original Jack the Ripper investigations, is to be converted into a \u00a310,000 per night luxury hotel in a \u00a3110 million deal involving UK property developer Galliard and the Dubai-based LuLu group.
