Residents and environmentalists, who have been protesting throughout the council\u2019s two-day meeting, welcomed the news.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: initial;\">The county council\u2019s<br \/>\nDevelopment Control Committee refused Cuadrilla\u2019s application to<br \/>\ndrill for shale gas in the local Roseacre Wood area due to<br \/>\nconcerns over traffic and activity on the site causing \u201can<br \/>\nunacceptable impact\u201d on the roads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Roseacre Wood is located between the Lancashire towns of Preston<br \/>\nand Blackpool.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the council said: \u201c<em>The application for<br \/>\nRoseacre Wood was refused in line with officers\u2019 recommendations<br \/>\nthat the proposal would have an unacceptable and potentially<br \/>\nsevere impact on the road network, both in terms of traffic and<br \/>\nthe increased danger to other road users.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>County Councilor Marcus Johnstone, who is cabinet member for<br \/>\nenvironment, planning and cultural services, and a member of the<br \/>\nDevelopment Control Committee, said: <em>\u201cThe development control<br \/>\ncommittee has listened very carefully to many hours of evidence<br \/>\nboth for and against the proposal, and considered the report of<br \/>\nthe council&#8217;s planning officers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe decision to refuse this application has been reached by<br \/>\na vote of the committee, and each member of the committee has<br \/>\nultimately cast their vote based on the evidence they have heard<br \/>\nand whether they think the proposal is acceptable.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wCNLU7KVzuA?list=PLmlEcCWytGOcz7c9SGzXezuEcivkDsnB9\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><br \/>\n  The committee has yet to decide on a second proposal in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Friends of the Earth North West campaigner Furqan Naeem welcomed<br \/>\nthe decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>This is a tremendous victory for local people and everyone<br \/>\nacross Lancashire and the UK who have been tirelessly<br \/>\nhighlighting the risks fracking poses to their quality of life<br \/>\nand the climate.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/news\/258377-fracking-health-risk-study\/\">READ<br \/>\nMORE: Fracking may cause higher risk of cancer \u2014 study<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBut the fracking threat still hangs ominously over the<br \/>\ncommunity near Preston New Road.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPoll after poll shows people want renewables, not fracking \u2014<br \/>\nand the clean energy and long-term jobs they would provide.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLancashire councilors must put local people and our<br \/>\nenvironment first and reject Cuadrilla\u2019s controversial<br \/>\napplication when they meet next Monday.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Cuadrilla said it was disappointed by the outcome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>We are disappointed but not surprised that Lancashire County<br \/>\nCouncil\u2019s development control committee has denied planning<br \/>\nconsent for our application at Roseacre Wood as their decision<br \/>\nfollows a negative recommendation by the council\u2019s planning<br \/>\nofficers.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!-- Go to www.addthis.com\/dashboard to customize your tools --><br \/>\n<!-- Share template --><\/p>\n<p><!-- Go to your Addthis.com Dashboard to update any options --><\/p>\n<p>This piece was reprinted by <a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\">RINF Alternative News<\/a> with permission or license.<\/p>\n<p><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(RT) &#8211;\u00a0Lancashire County Council has unanimously voted to reject a planning application for fracking in the region.
