{"id":16014,"date":"2012-10-02T15:32:41","date_gmt":"2012-10-02T14:32:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=16014"},"modified":"2012-10-02T15:32:41","modified_gmt":"2012-10-02T14:32:41","slug":"police-chief-to-be-quizzed-over-hillsborough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/police-chief-to-be-quizzed-over-hillsborough\/","title":{"rendered":"Police chief to be quizzed over Hillsborough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Scott, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goal.com\/en-gb\/news\/2896\/premier-league\/2012\/10\/02\/3418674\/-?\" target=\"_blank\">Goal<\/a> |<\/p>\n<p>The chief constable of South Yorkshire Police, David Crompton, will appear in front of the Home Affairs Select Committee to answer MPs&#8217; questions about the Hillsborough tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>An independent report into the 1989 incident at Sheffield Wednesday&#8217;s stadium revealed failings from the local authorities and attempts to blame Liverpool fans in the aftermath.<\/p>\n<p>The committee&#8217;s chairman, Keith Vaz MP, is aiming to determine whether those who are responsible are being fully investigated.<\/p>\n<p>The Hillsborough Family Support Group&#8217;s legal advisor, former solicitor general Lord Falconer, is also set to appear in order to advise what measures should be taken against those responsible.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Vaz told the<em>\u00a0Liverpool Echo<\/em>: &#8220;It is imperative that justice is done for the victims and their families.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The committee will be seeking assurances that South Yorkshire police are taking action to ensure officers who have committed alleged wrongdoing are investigated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also want to ensure the views of the victims\u2019 families on the matter are acted upon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Crompton, who was appointed to his post in January 2012 has already issued a full apology after the findings were published and admitted senior officers at the time &#8220;sought to change the record of events&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He has also insisted that he and others questioned will be &#8220;fully transparent in helping to find answers to the questions posed by the panel&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Scott, Goal | The chief constable of South Yorkshire Police, David Crompton, will appear in front of the Home Affairs Select Committee to answer MPs&#8217; questions about the Hillsborough tragedy.
