{"id":151637,"date":"2015-05-17T15:46:26","date_gmt":"2015-05-17T15:46:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=151637"},"modified":"2015-05-17T15:47:09","modified_gmt":"2015-05-17T15:47:09","slug":"us-china-clash-building-projects-disputed-areas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/us-china-clash-building-projects-disputed-areas\/","title":{"rendered":"US, China clash over building projects in disputed areas"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>The United States and China have clashed over Beijing\u2019s construction projects in disputed parts of the South China Sea.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After a private meeting with China&#8217;s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday, Secretary of State John Kerry said Washington was concerned about the pace and scope of what he called Beijing\u2019s \u201cland reclamation\u201d in the disputed waterway, <em>The Associated Press<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n<p>Washington has said China\u2019s territorial claims of man-made islands in the South China Sea will have negative consequences and could further militarize the region.<\/p>\n<p>The US and most members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) want a halt to China\u2019s building projects.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry urged China to speed up talks with ASEAN to \u201creduce tensions and increase the prospect of diplomatic solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we agree that the region needs smart diplomacy in order to conclude the ASEAN-China code of conduct and not outposts and military strips,\u201d he said at a news conference with Wang.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s foreign minister indicated that while Beijing was ready to negotiate, it would not back down on the projects that fall \u201cfully within the scope of China\u2019s sovereignty.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.presstv.ir\/Detail\/2015\/05\/17\/411430\/USChinaSouth-China-Seadisputed-islands-\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United States and China have clashed over Beijing\u2019s construction projects in disputed parts of the South China Sea.
