{"id":143498,"date":"2015-02-12T03:20:56","date_gmt":"2015-02-12T03:20:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=143498"},"modified":"2018-11-23T00:57:41","modified_gmt":"2018-11-22T23:57:41","slug":"obamas-new-national-security-strategy-rabidly-anti-russian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/editorials\/obamas-new-national-security-strategy-rabidly-anti-russian\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama&#8217;s New National Security Strategy Is Rabidly Anti-Russian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Eric Zuesse<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">U.S. President Barack Obama\u2019s just-issued\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150212034518\/http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/docs\/2015_national_security_strategy.pdf\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>National Security Strategy 2015<\/i><\/span><\/a>\u00a0uses the term \u201caggression\u201d precisely 18 times, all but one of which are either explicitly, or else possibly, referring to Russia, as allegedly doing the alleged \u201caggression\u201d \u2014 never the U.S., and on only one occasion is he identifying North Korea with that term of opprobrium. Presumably, he thinks that Russia is by far the most \u201caggressive\u201d country. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">His new National Security Strategy is actually even obsessed with Russia, as being the virtually exclusive \u201caggressor\u201d in the world. He especially alleges Russia\u2019s \u201caggression\u201d in Ukraine, where Obama himself was the actual aggressor: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8-RyOaFwcEw\"><span class=\"s3\">Obama\u2019s Ukrainian coup in February 2014<\/span><\/a> replaced a neutral Ukrainian President with an entire regime that is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2014\/06\/ukraine-international-war-criminal-obama-putin-2.html\"><span class=\"s3\">passionately anti-Russian<\/span><\/a>; and many members of this regime are on record as aiming to wipe Russia entirely off the map \u2014 but Obama is not the \u201caggressor,\u201d supposedly. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Every specific reference in this Obama document, to \u201cRussia,\u201d is negative, even extremely hostile \u2014 as if Russia is encircling the U.S. with its military bases, instead of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2014\/06\/indications-u-s-planning-nuclear-attack-russia.html\"><span class=\"s3\">the U.S. and its NATO partners who have been encircling Russia with U.S. military bases<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2014\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here are all 18 occasions in which Obama uses the term \u201caggression\u201d in this important document:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He states, on page 2:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cWe mobilized and are leading global efforts to impose costs to counter Russian <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i>.&#8221;\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On page 3:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cNow, at this pivotal moment, we continue to face serious challenges to our national security, even as we are working to\u00a0shape the opportunities of tomorrow. Violent extremism and an evolving terrorist threat raise a persistent risk of attacks\u00a0on America and our allies. Escalating challenges to cybersecurity, <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> by Russia, the accelerating impacts of\u00a0climate change, and the outbreak of infectious diseases all give rise to anxieties about global security.\u00a0\u2026<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>We are leading international coalitions to confront the acute challenges posed by <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i>, terrorism, and disease. We\u00a0are leading over 60 partners in a global campaign to degrade and ultimately defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and the\u00a0Levant (ISIL) in Iraq and Syria, including by working to disrupt the flow of foreign fighters to those countries, while\u00a0keeping pressure on al-Qa\u2019ida. We are leading a global effort to stop the deadly spread of the Ebola virus at its source.\u00a0In lockstep with our European allies, we are enforcing tough sanctions on Russia to impose costs and deter future\u00a0<\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i>.&#8221;\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Then on page 4:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>&#8220;India\u2019s potential, China\u2019s rise, and Russia\u2019s <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> all significantly impact the future of major power\u00a0relations.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">And, on page 7:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>&#8220;There is no substitute for American leadership whether in the face of aggression, in the cause of universal\u00a0values, or in the service of a more secure America.&#8221;\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On page 8:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>&#8220;U.S. forces will continue to defend the homeland, conduct global counterterrorism operations, assure allies,\u00a0and deter <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> through forward presence and engagement. If deterrence fails, U.S. forces will be\u00a0ready to project power globally to defeat and deny <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> in multiple theaters.&#8221;\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On page 10:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>&#8220;North Korean provocation and tensions in the East and South China Seas are reminders of the risks of\u00a0escalation. American diplomacy and leadership, backed by a strong military, remain essential to deterring\u00a0future acts of inter-state <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> and provocation by reaffirming our security commitments to allies and\u00a0partners.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0[This is the only instance in which Obama specifically alleges an \u201caggressor\u201d that\u2019s <i>not<\/i> Russia.]<i>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>On page 13:<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>The United States has an enduring interest in freedom of navigation and overflight as well as the safety and\u00a0sustainability of the air and maritime environments. We will therefore maintain the capability to ensure the\u00a0free flow of commerce, to respond quickly to those in need, and to deter those who might contemplate\u00a0<\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i>.&#8221;\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On page 19:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>&#8220;Many of the threats to our security in recent years arose from efforts by authoritarian states to oppose\u00a0democratic forces\u2014from the crisis caused by Russian <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> in Ukraine to the rise of ISIL within the\u00a0Syrian civil war. By the same token, many of our greatest opportunities stem from advances for liberty and\u00a0rule of law\u2014from sub-Saharan Africa to Eastern Europe to Burma.&#8221;\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On page 23:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>&#8220;Targeted economic sanctions remain an effective tool for imposing costs on those irresponsible actors\u00a0whose military <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i>, illicit proliferation, or unprovoked violence threaten both international rules and\u00a0norms and the peace they were designed to preserve.&#8221;\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On pages 25-26 he states:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>&#8220;Russia\u2019s <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> in Ukraine makes clear that European security and the international rules and norms\u00a0against territorial <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> cannot be taken for granted. In response, we have led an international effort to\u00a0support the Ukrainian people as they choose their own future and develop their democracy and economy.\u00a0We are reassuring our allies by backing our security commitments and increasing responsiveness through\u00a0training and exercises, as well as a dynamic presence in Central and Eastern Europe to deter further\u00a0Russian <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i>. This will include working with Europe to improve its energy security in both the short\u00a0and long term. We will support partners such as Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine so they can better work\u00a0alongside the United States and NATO, as well as provide for their own defense.\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>And we will continue to impose significant costs on Russia through sanctions and other means while\u00a0<\/i><b><i>countering Moscow\u2019s deceptive propaganda with the unvarnished truth<\/i><\/b><i>. We will deter Russian <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i>,\u00a0remain alert to its strategic capabilities, and help our allies and partners resist Russian <\/i><b><i>coercion<\/i><\/b><i> over the\u00a0long term, if necessary. At the same time, we will keep the door open to greater collaboration with Russia in\u00a0areas of common interests, should it choose a different path\u2014a path of peaceful cooperation that respects\u00a0the sovereignty and democratic development of neighboring states.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>In the Middle East, we will dismantle terrorist networks that threaten our people, confront external\u00a0<\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> against our allies and partners, ensure the free flow of energy from the region to the world, and\u00a0prevent the development, proliferation, or use of weapons of mass destruction.\u00a0\u2026\u00a0We are therefore investing in the ability of Israel, Jordan, and our Gulf partners to deter <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> while\u00a0maintaining our unwavering commitment to Israel\u2019s security, including its Qualitative Military Edge<\/i>. \u2026 <i>Resolving these connected conflicts, and enabling long-term stability in the region, requires more than the\u00a0use and presence of American military forces. For one, it requires partners who can defend themselves. We\u00a0are therefore investing in the ability of Israel, Jordan, and our Gulf partners to deter <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> while\u00a0maintaining our unwavering commitment to Israel\u2019s security, including its Qualitative Military Edge.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">That\u2019s it; that\u2019s all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2014\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On 2 January 2014, the <i>International Business Times<\/i> bannered,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibtimes.com\/gallup-poll-biggest-threat-world-peace-america-1525008\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cIn Gallup Poll, The Biggest Threat to World Peace Is \u2026 America?\u201d<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and reported that, &#8220;According to a new poll from WIN and Gallup International, the U.S. represents the largest threat to\u00a0world peace today.\u201d By far more people worldwide cited \u201cUnited States\u201d than any other country when asked which nation \u201cis the greatest threat to peace in the world today.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This was so even before the U.S. overthrew Ukraine\u2019s Government and started and has backed an ethnic cleansing program to get rid of the residents in Ukraine\u2019s region where the voters had <a href=\"http:\/\/observationalism.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ukraine_historical_vs_electoral_2010.png\"><span class=\"s3\">voted 90% for the very same man whom Obama had just overthrown as Ukraine\u2019s leader (\u201cJanukovych\u201d)<\/span><\/a>, who had been democratically elected with their votes, and illegally removed by Obama. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MSxaa-67yGM\">Here<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> is Obama\u2019s agent in Ukraine, the State Department\u2019s Victoria Nuland, telling Obama\u2019s Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, whom to place at the top of the post-coup Government when the coup occurs. She issued this instruction to him on 4 February 2014, and the coup occurred on February 22nd, and her man \u201cYats\u201d was appointed to lead the country on February 26th. His invasion of the rebellious region, the start of Ukraine\u2019s civil war and ethnic cleansing, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2014\/05\/civil-war-begun-ukraine-u-s-backs-neo-nazis-democrats-u-s-media-suppress-news.html\"><span class=\"s3\">occurred on May 9th<\/span><\/a>. And here are <a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/editorials\/obama-definitely-caused-malaysian-airliner-downed\/\"><span class=\"s3\">images<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/editorials\/enemies-ukraine-speak\/\"><span class=\"s3\">videos<\/span><\/a> of his <a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/editorials\/people-extermination-jobs-ukraine\/\"><span class=\"s3\">extermination program<\/span><\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveleak.com\/view?i=703_1406188532\"><span class=\"s3\">get rid of those people<\/span><\/a>. But:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>&#8220;Russia\u2019s <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> in Ukraine makes clear that European security and the international rules and norms\u00a0against territorial <\/i><b><i>aggression<\/i><\/b><i> cannot be taken for granted. In response, we have led an international effort to\u00a0support the Ukrainian people as they choose their own future and develop their democracy and economy.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If Obama didn\u2019t hate Russians so much, then <a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/editorials\/obamas-ukrainian-stooges\/\"><span class=\"s3\">the ethnic cleansing program in Ukraine<\/span><\/a> wouldn\u2019t even have started.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Right after Obama\u2019s coup there, the people in Crimea, which had been part of Russia from 1783 to 1954 and which the Soviet leader Khrushchev donated to Ukraine without even asking Crimea\u2019s residents, declared their independence from the new Obama Ukraine. <a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/featured\/npr-propagandizes-putin-regime-change-russia\/\"><span class=\"s3\">Two Gallup polls showed overwhelming sentiment among Crimeans to rejoin with Russia<\/span><\/a>. But to Obama, that was \u201cRussian aggression,\u201d and Obama\u2019s extremely bloody coup that had preceded that breakaway was not America\u2019s aggression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobelprize.org\/nobel_prizes\/peace\/laureates\/2009\/press.html\">In 2009 Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s1\">. The Nobel committee has never expressed remorse, nor even admitted that the award was simply premature. Every day they don\u2019t admit that, is yet another nail in the coffin of the Nobel Committee\u2019s credibility \u2014 credibility that\u2019s now in a league along with Obama\u2019s very bloody own, if that\u2019s where they want it to remain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The people that Obama is exterminating cannot be very happy about such hypocrisy. But to Obama, they are just \u2018Terrorists.\u2019 And that\u2019s what the regime he installed is officially calling them. Their \u2018Terrorism\u2019 consists in <a href=\"http:\/\/observationalism.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ukraine_historical_vs_electoral_2010.png\"><span class=\"s3\">having voted for the \u2018wrong\u2019 man<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Obama wants to get rid of the people but keep the land. And so Obama\u2019s operatives are doing all they can to <a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/featured\/brookings-wants-villages-firebombed-ukraines-anti-terrorist-operation\/\"><span class=\"s3\">eliminate them<\/span><\/a>. This is how he fights against \u2018Russia\u2019s aggression.\u2019 Whatever Russia does to try to protect those people constitutes \u2018aggression.\u2019 But if Russia doesn\u2019t stand firm there, then where will it \u2014 perhaps in Moscow, when U.S. missiles are flying from Ukraine against that city?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2014\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">PS: On 12 February 2015, the <i>Moscow Times<\/i> headlined, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/business\/article\/russian-fear-of-u-s-hypersonic-missiles-threatens-new-arms-race\/515863.html\"><span class=\"s3\">\u201cRussian Fear of U.S. Hypersonic Missiles Threatens New Arms Race,\u201d<\/span><\/a> and reported that a George W. Bush initiated, Barack Obama continued, U.S. missile-development program, called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2014\/06\/indications-u-s-planning-nuclear-attack-russia.html\"><span class=\"s3\">\u201cPrompt Global Strike,\u201d<\/span><\/a> which would construct hypersonic missiles that travel so fast they\u2019d eliminate Russia\u2019s defenses before Russia could even launch its own missiles to respond to a U.S. attack, &#8220;could negate all previous agreements on the limitation and reduction of strategic nuclear weapons,\u201d according to Vladimir Putin. Therefore, U.S. President Obama has been duly warned that Russia might, at any time, withdraw from all previous nuclear-arms agreements; in which case, both countries would necessarily have to redirect much of current government spending away from non-military toward military, which would be an enormous boon to U.S. and Russian arms-makers, but at the expense of everyone else, even if those weapons never end up being used \u2014 just a waste. Putin has basically told Obama that the moment when Prompt Global Strike starts to become a realistic possibility, all arms treaties with the U.S. will terminate, and there will be runaway military spending on both sides.
