In 2014, however, the global resistance is making even greater strides.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a relatively new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fool.com\/investing\/general\/2014\/10\/25\/people-really-hate-monsanto-its-latest-move-shows.aspx\">poll\u00a0from Nielsen<\/a>\u00a0<strong>found that Monsanto\u2019s reputation ranked 3rd\u00a0worst among 60 high-profile companies<\/strong>, right behind oil juggernaut\u00a0<strong>BP<\/strong> (responsible for the worst oil spill in U.S. history) and <strong>Bank of America<\/strong>\u00a0(known for being a key player in the meltdown of the financial market).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monsanto<\/strong>, a major biotech corporation responsible for\u00a0genetically modifying\u00a0and taking over many of the nation\u2019s\u00a0crops, isn\u2019t necessarily a consumer-facing company. Yet it faces public opposition unlike no other.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/247wallst.com\/special-report\/2014\/05\/01\/companies-with-the-best-and-worst-reputations-2\/\">reported by<\/a> 247Wallst:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>\u201c3. Monsanto<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>&gt; Reputation score:<\/strong> 57.27<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>&gt; 2013 Reputation score:<\/strong> 61.70<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2026few businesses have had such a long-running negative public perception. The company\u2019s promotion of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) has been controversial because many consumers remain suspicious about crop engineering. Monsanto has also actively worked to protect seed patents, including suing farmers who have used its seeds without permission and proper payments. The company\u2019s opposition to proposed GMO labeling laws, which require that foods sold to consumers containing GMOs include a label, has also not helped its image.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>The Many Reasons to Hate Monsanto<\/h2>\n<p>Numerous scientific studies have found Monsanto\u2019s products, from GMO crops to top-selling pesticides,\u00a0to be endangering the planet at an incredibly fast rate.
