{"id":141837,"date":"2014-11-11T21:20:37","date_gmt":"2014-11-11T21:20:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=141837"},"modified":"2014-11-11T21:20:37","modified_gmt":"2014-11-11T21:20:37","slug":"texas-regulator-says-wont-honor-towns-fracking-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/texas-regulator-says-wont-honor-towns-fracking-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Regulator Says She Won&#8217;t Honor Town&#8217;s Fracking Ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Statement by Railroad Commission Chairwoman is just latest attack on ban since it passed one week ago<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sarah Lazare<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A Texas regulator declared last week she will not honor a fracking <a href=\"http:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2014\/11\/05\/just-beginning-communities-across-nation-ban-fracking\">ban<\/a> passed in the midterm elections by the town of Denton, in the north of the state.<\/p>\n<p>Christi Craddick, Chairwoman of the Texas Railroad Commission, which is charged with regulating the oil and gas industries in the state, <a href=\"http:\/\/trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com\/2014\/11\/craddick-railroad-commission-will-continue-permitting-in-denton-not-ruling-out-action-against-ban.html\/\">told<\/a> the <em>Dallas Morning News<\/em> on November 6, &#8220;It\u2019s my job to give permits, not Denton\u2019s&#8230; We\u2019re going to continue permitting up there because that\u2019s my job.&#8221; The chairwoman is the daughter of Republican state representative and former House speaker Tom Craddick.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Briggle from the Denton Drilling Awareness Group told the <em>Dallas Morning News<\/em> in response to Craddick&#8217;s statement, &#8220;They should have got a wake-up call, but it&#8217;s like they&#8217;re still just sleeping.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The regulator&#8217;s statement is not the first attack on the ban since it passed one week ago.<\/p>\n<p>Just a day after the ban passed, the Texas Oil and Gas association <a href=\"http:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2014\/11\/05\/industry-lashes-out-lawsuit-hours-after-landmark-fracking-ban\">filed an injunction<\/a> in a bid to prevent it from being instated.
