Some 300 people attended the annual United Families and Friends\u2019 march and vigil in London last Saturday.<\/p>\n
The procession from Trafalgar Square to Downing Street included families and supporters of those who have died at the hands of the state.<\/p>\n
Marcia Rigg is the sister of Sean Rigg, who died in police custody in Brixton, south London, in 2008.<\/p>\n
She told a rally at Downing Street about the family\u2019s ongoing fight for justice.<\/p>\n
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced recently that officers involved in Sean\u2019s death would not face prosecution for perjury, perverting the course of justice or collusion.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are challenging the CPS\u2019s decision,\u201d said Marcia.<\/p>\n
She urged people to get behind the family campaigns. \u201cOver half of deaths in custody are people with mental illness,\u201d she said. \u201cIt does not just affect the black community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carole Duggan, the aunt of Mark Duggan, also spoke.<\/p>\n
She said, \u201cWe will never get a fair trial, we will never get anything given to us. They want us to go away, but we are not going away.\u201d<\/p>\n
Families and supporters of Mikey Powell, Joy Gardner, Thomas Orchard and Lloyd Butler also spoke.<\/p>\n
Myrna Simpson, the mother of Joy Gardner, told the crowd, \u201cI thank you all for coming, but we need more people. We should be blockading the road.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Annual Defend the Right to Protest conference is set to take place on 16 November in central London.<\/p>\n
