{"id":138090,"date":"2014-08-25T11:42:49","date_gmt":"2014-08-25T11:42:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=138090"},"modified":"2014-08-25T11:48:46","modified_gmt":"2014-08-25T11:48:46","slug":"largest-class-action-facebook-will-look-prism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/editorials\/largest-class-action-facebook-will-look-prism\/","title":{"rendered":"Largest class action against Facebook will look at PRISM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\">RINF Alternative News<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The largest class action against the social media giant\u00a0has begun,\u00a0gaining the support of over 60,000 Facebook users and is expected to investigate the company&#8217;s\u00a0connection to the draconian PRISM\u00a0surveillance programme.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the media, Austrian privacy activist Max Schrems, said: \u201cOur aim is to make Facebook finally operate lawfully in the area of data protection\u201d, he explains. \u201cWe are only claiming a small amount as our primary objective is to ensure correct data protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201c<\/span>For this lawsuit we have chosen basic or obvious violations of the law: The privacy policy, participation in the PRISM program, Facebook\u2019s graph search, apps on Facebook, tracking on other web pages (e.g. via the &#8216;like buttons&#8217;), \u2018big data\u2019 systems that spy on users or the non-compliance with access requests.<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The main plaintiff in the suit wants Facebook to pay out \u00e2\u201a\u00ac500 in damages to each supporter of the class action<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Vienna Regional Court has now given Facebook Ireland four weeks to respond.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0report states:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first step in the legal procedure is hereby taken. Facebook Ireland may be able to get an extension of this time limit of additional four weeks.
