{"id":132579,"date":"2014-07-22T20:10:07","date_gmt":"2014-07-22T20:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=132579"},"modified":"2014-07-22T20:10:07","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T20:10:07","slug":"un-security-council-demands-investigation-downed-malaysia-airlines-flight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/un-security-council-demands-investigation-downed-malaysia-airlines-flight\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Security Council Demands Investigation Into Downed Malaysia Airlines Flight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"subtitle\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>All military activities in the crash area by all parties must stop immediately, unanimous resolution adds.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Andrea Germanos<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\">The United Nations Security Council on Monday unanimously adopted a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #005588;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foreignminister.gov.au\/releases\/Pages\/2014\/jb_mr_140722.aspx\">resolution<\/a>demanding an international investigation into the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #005588;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/storyline\/ukraine-plane-crash\/malaysia-airlines-passenger-jet-shot-down-over-ukraine-u-s-n158416\">crash<\/a>\u00a0of the Malaysia Airlines flight in Ukraine that killed all of its nearly 300 passengers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\">The 15-member UN body, whose five permanent members are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States, also demanded that armed groups controlling the crash site of flight MH17 &#8220;refrain from any actions that may compromise the integrity of the crash site, including by refraining from destroying, moving or disturbing wreckage, equipment, debris, personal belongings, or remains, and immediately provide safe, secure, full and unrestricted access to the site\u2026&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\">All military activities in the crash area must stop immediately, the body&#8217;s resolution added, to allow for safe access by investigators.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\">Russia added its support to the resolution, according to media reports, after language was<a style=\"color: #005588;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/thetwo-way\/2014\/07\/21\/333732615\/flight-mh17-u-n-calls-for-inquiry-and-access-victims-bodies-handed-over\">switched<\/a>\u00a0from referring to the plane&#8217;s &#8220;shooting down&#8221; to &#8220;downing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\">U.S. officials including\u00a0<a style=\"color: #005588;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-28396862\">Secretary of State John Kerry<\/a>\u00a0as well as Ukraine&#8217;s ambassador to the UN,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #005588;\" href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/ap-interview-ukraine-blames-russia-crash-231912038.html\">Yuriy Sergeyev<\/a>, have blamed Russia for the tragedy, saying the country provided the anti-aircraft weaponry to pro-separatist rebels who used it to take down the plane, though those claims\u00a0<a style=\"color: #005588;\" href=\"http:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2014\/07\/20\/what-did-us-spy-satellites-see-in-ukraine\/\">have not been substantiated<\/a>.
