Government&#8217;s own data says US in decade-long cooling period"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #000000;\">New government data suggests that the average temperature in the United States has cooled by approximately 0.7 degrees Fahrenheit during the last decade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The statistics come courtesy of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which for nearly a decade has been collecting weather data from 114 different stations administered by the US Climate Reference Network, or USCRN, across the country. Combined, the weather stations are among the most state-of-the-art and advanced in the nation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-128489 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/10.si_.jpg\" alt=\"10.si\" width=\"690\" height=\"388\" srcset=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/10.si_.jpg 690w, http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/10.si_-75x42.jpg 75w, http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/10.si_-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/10.si_-383x215.jpg 383w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Last month,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #044faa;\" href=\"http:\/\/wattsupwiththat.com\/2014\/06\/07\/noaa-shows-the-pause-in-the-u-s-surface-temperature-record-over-nearly-a-decade\/\" target=\"_blank\">Watts Up With That<\/a>? blogger Anthony Watts wrote that an analysis of the last few years\u2019 worth of data implies the US has cooled slightly, not warmed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>\u201cNot only is there a pause in the posited temperature rise from man-made global warming, but a clearly evident slight cooling trend in the US Average Temperature over nearly the last decade,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Watts wrote after examining the data.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>\u201cWe\u2019ve had a couple of heat waves and we\u2019ve had some cool spells too. In other words, weather,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he wrote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Watts wrote that by taking into account not just the average temperature anomalies captured by USCRN, but the maximum and minimum temperature data plots made available as well, the US experienced a very subtle drop in temperature which, nevertheless, he qualified as a \u201cnotable\u201d cooling trend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>\u201cWhile we can\u2019t say there has been a statistically significant cooling trend, even though the slope of the trend is downward, we also can\u2019t say there\u2019s been a statistically significant warming trend either,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0wrote Watts, who previously spent more than two decades as a television meteorologist.\u00a0<em>\u201cWhat we can say, is that this is just one more dataset that indicates a pause in the posited rise of temperature in the Contiguous United States for nearly a decade, as measured by the best surface temperature monitoring network in the world. It is unfortunate that we don\u2019t have similar systems distributed worldwide.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">On\u00a0<a style=\"color: #044faa;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jamestaylor\/2014\/06\/25\/government-data-show-u-s-in-decade-long-cooling\/\" target=\"_blank\">Forbes<\/a>, commentator James Taylor wrote that the data suggests that\u00a0<em>\u201cglobal warming is not so dramatic and uniform as alarmists claim.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Both Watts and Taylor, however, have been directly tied to the Heartland Institute think-tank, which has been labeled\u00a0<em>\u201cthe primary American organization pushing climate change skepticism\u201d<\/em>\u00a0by the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #044faa;\" href=\"http:\/\/heartland.org\/issues\/environment\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">On the Heartland\u00a0<a style=\"color: #044faa;\" href=\"http:\/\/news.heartland.org\/newspaper-article\/2014\/07\/06\/united-states-undergoing-decade-long-cooling\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>, Taylor writes that the roughly 0.4 degree Celsius temperature drop that occurred during the last ten years or so\u00a0<em>\u201cis more than half of the global warming that occurred during the twentieth century.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Meanwhile, the NOAA\u2019s National Climatic Data Center found recently that despite the minor temperature drop,\u00a0<em>\u201cthe world experienced warmer-than-average monthly temperatures<\/em>\u201d this past May, marking the three-hundred-and-fifty-first consecutive month in which the global temperature placed above the twentieth century average.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">That month the state of Alaska \u2013 traditionally one of the coolest \u2013 had its sixth warmest May since the NOAA began taking records there in 1918, the agency added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/usa\/171044-noaa-climate-change-cooling\/\" target=\"_blank\">This piece<\/a> was reprinted by <a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\" target=\"_blank\">RINF Alternative News<\/a> with permission or license.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New government data suggests that the average temperature in the United States has cooled by approximately 0.7 degrees Fahrenheit during the last decade.
