{"id":126628,"date":"2014-06-27T18:19:02","date_gmt":"2014-06-27T18:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=126628"},"modified":"2014-06-27T18:19:02","modified_gmt":"2014-06-27T18:19:02","slug":"u-s-egyptian-historic-partnership-reeks-hypocrisy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/u-s-egyptian-historic-partnership-reeks-hypocrisy\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S.-Egyptian \u201cHistoric Partnership\u201d Reeks with Hypocrisy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Sheldon Richman<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">Largely overshadowed by events in Iraq and Syria, the Obama administration is dropping its pretense at displeasure with the military junta in Egypt and restoring full support for the regime that so recently quashed the country\u2019s faltering attempt at democracy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">Secretary of State John Kerry, en route to troubled Baghdad, stopped in Cairo, where he announced that Washington would soon release a briefly withheld portion of the more than a billion dollars in aid that the Egyptian military receives each year from American taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">Kerry affirmed the \u201chistoric partnership\u201d between the U.S. and Egyptian governments, while expressing confidence \u201cthat the [10] Apaches [helicopter gunships] will come, and that they will come very, very soon.\u201d The\u00a0<em>New York Times\u00a0<\/em><a style=\"color: #17758f;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/06\/23\/world\/middleeast\/kerry-in-egypt-renewing-ties-with-el-sisi.html?ref=world&amp;_r=0\">noted\u00a0<\/a>that \u201cthe Egyptian military has been especially eager\u201d to receive the gunships.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">Considering how the military government treats the Egyptian people, one can fully believe it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444;\">Let\u2019s remember that in 2011, when Egyptians took to the streets to demand an end to the decades-long dictatorship of Hosni Mubarak, the Obama administration \u2013 in particular then-secretary of state Hillary Clinton \u2013 stood by Mubarak until the bitter end. Two years earlier, when asked about Mubarak\u2019s despicable human-rights record, which was documented in State Department reports, Clinton\u00a0<a style=\"color: #17758f;\" href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/blogs\/politics\/2011\/01\/secretary-clinton-in-2009-i-really-consider-president-and-mrs-mubarak-to-be-friends-of-my-family\/\">said<\/a>, \u201cI really consider President and Mrs. Mubarak to be friends of my family.
