{"id":125218,"date":"2014-06-19T15:08:30","date_gmt":"2014-06-19T15:08:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=125218"},"modified":"2014-06-19T15:08:30","modified_gmt":"2014-06-19T15:08:30","slug":"ethnic-cultural-cleansing-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/ethnic-cultural-cleansing-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethnic and Cultural Cleansing in Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the centennial anniversary of \u201cRussophilic\u201d individuals (Rusyns) from modern-day Ukraine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strategic-culture.org\/news\/2014\/06\/15\/internment-camps-in-donbass-history-repeats-itself.html%20\" target=\"_blank\">being sent to concentration camps<\/a>, history appears set to once again repeat itself.<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian Defense Minister <a href=\"http:\/\/ukrainanews.wordpress.com\/2014\/06\/12\/kiev-already-creates-concentration-camps-for-all-inhabitants-of-donbass-though-war-still-goes-the-minister-of-defence-video\/\" target=\"_blank\">has publicly voiced his plan<\/a> to corral the citizens of Donbass into special \u201cfiltration\u201d camps prior to forcibly resettling them in different parts of Ukraine. A few days later, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatsenyuk <a href=\"http:\/\/usa.mfa.gov.ua\/en\/press-center\/news\/24185-mi-uvichnimo-pamjaty-gerojiv-ochistivshi-nashu-zemlyu-vid-nechistiarsenij-jacenyuk-u-spivchutti-ridnim-i-blizykim-zagiblih-vojiniv-u-lugansyku\" target=\"_blank\">declared<\/a> the pro-federalists in the East to be \u201csubhuman\u201d. This choice of words not only wasn\u2019t condemned by Kiev\u2019s American patrons, but was actually defended by State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki, who strangely said that Yatsenyuk \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/usa\/166344-psaki-ukrainian-fm-defense\/\" target=\"_blank\">has consistently been in support of a peaceful resolution<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Raising concerns even higher that a full-fledged cleansing is being planned, Ukraine\u2019s land agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/content\/ukraine\/ukraines-land-agency-give-land-to-soldiers-in-the-east-for-free-352100.html\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> that it will be giving \u201cfree land\u201d from the east to the military, Interior Ministry, and Special Services troops battling the federalists. With Ukraine on the verge of large-scale ethnic and cultural cleansing, it is little wonder at whose expense this Lebenstraum-like \u201cfree land\u201d will be given.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/00d-memorial-to-talerhof-rova-farms-300x202.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-54690\" src=\"http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/00d-memorial-to-talerhof-rova-farms-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"00d-memorial-to-talerhof-rova-farms-300x202\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a>1914 was the first time that people of a supposed pro-Russian affiliation were rounded up and<a href=\"http:\/\/www.carpatho-rusynacademy.org\/histalerhof.html\" target=\"_blank\"> sent to concentration camps<\/a>. The Austrians <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carpatho-rusynacademy.org\/rusyns-history.html\" target=\"_blank\">imprisoned<\/a> Rusyns and Lemkos (a closely related sub-ethnic group) in Thalerhof because their self-identification was seen as treasonous. In the same manner, the self-identification of the people of Donbass is also being seen as treasonous, at least according to Ukraine\u2019s Defense Minister Mikhail Koval.<\/p>\n<p>He was appointed to his position after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/ukraine-fires-defense-minister-who-lost-crimea-to-russia\/2014\/03\/25\/81409484-31c6-41db-9e24-7b6193240aef_story.html\" target=\"_blank\">his predecessor\u2019s dismissal <\/a>following the reunification of Russia and Crimea. Koval\u2019s extreme statement of intent for the people of Donbass also validates Russia\u2019s prior concerns in March, elaborated upon in the <a href=\"http:\/\/orientalreview.org\/2014\/05\/05\/the-white-book-on-violations-of-human-rights-and-the-rule-of-law-in-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\">White Book on human rights violations in Ukraine<\/a>, that Crimea was facing an imminent humanitarian crisis before the reunification. If Crimea had not defended itself and reunified with Russia, now that the Ukrainian Defense Ministry\u2019s post-crisis \u2018resolution\u2019 plans have been made public, it is very likely that its citizens would already be imprisoned in a special \u201cfiltration\u201d camp of some sorts and forcibly moved out of their home region (if they survived the ordeal).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/2014\/06\/ethnic-and-cultural-cleansing-in-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the centennial anniversary of \u201cRussophilic\u201d individuals (Rusyns) from modern-day Ukraine being sent to concentration camps, history appears set to once again repeat itself.
