{"id":107032,"date":"2014-01-27T22:45:36","date_gmt":"2014-01-27T22:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=107032"},"modified":"2014-01-27T22:45:36","modified_gmt":"2014-01-27T22:45:36","slug":"exposed-covert-real-time-spying-youtube-facebook-blogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/exposed-covert-real-time-spying-youtube-facebook-blogs\/","title":{"rendered":"Exposed: Covert, Real-Time Spying on Youtube, Facebook, Blogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sarah Lazare\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\" target=\"_blank\">RINF Alternative News<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>NSA docs exposed by Snowden reveal British Gov&#8217;t Gave Lessons to US on cyber surveillance<\/h3>\n<p>The British government gave the U.S. lessons in how to spy on users of popular websites, including Youtube and Facebook, in real-time and without the consent of users or cyber companies.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to a report released Monday afternoon by a team of\u00a0<em>NBC<\/em>\u00a0journalists, including Glenn Greenwald who is listed as a special contributor, based on NSA documents exposed by whistleblower Edward Snowden.<\/p>\n<p>The report unearths a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/msnbcmedia.msn.com\/i\/msnbc\/Sections\/NEWS\/snowden_youtube_nbc_document.pdf\">slide presentation<\/a>\u00a0by British intelligence agency GCHQ, given to their U.S. counterparts in August 2012, detailing their &#8220;Squeaky Dolphin&#8221; program that allows them to glean information from &#8220;the torrent of electronic data that moves across fiber optic cable and display it graphically on a computer dashboard,&#8221; according to the\u00a0<em>NBC<\/em>\u00a0article.<\/p>\n<p>In the slides,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/msnbcmedia.msn.com\/i\/msnbc\/Sections\/NEWS\/snowden_youtube_nbc_document.pdf\">published by\u00a0<em>NBC<\/em><\/a>, GCHQ officials tout their abilities to conduct &#8220;Broad, real-time monitoring of online activity of: Youtube Video Views, URLs Liked on Facebook, and Blogspot\/Blogger Visits.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While the presenters stated that the program was for purposes of identifying broad trends, not individual information,\u00a0<em>NBC<\/em>\u00a0journalists say they were told by cyber experts that &#8220;once the information has been collected, intelligence agencies have the ability to extract some user information as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Spokespeople from Facebook and Google said they were not aware that governments were surveying this information and they had not granted permission.<\/p>\n<p>GCHQ is apparently not the only agency wielding these online surveillance tools.
