{"id":106252,"date":"2014-01-16T04:33:36","date_gmt":"2014-01-16T04:33:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=106252"},"modified":"2014-01-16T04:34:38","modified_gmt":"2014-01-16T04:34:38","slug":"google-oppose-court-ordered-privacy-sanctions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/google-oppose-court-ordered-privacy-sanctions\/","title":{"rendered":"Google oppose court-ordered privacy sanctions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well there&#8217;s a surprise.. the web&#8217;s biggest search giant which just so happens to be in the business of collecting personal data, objects to court-ordered\u00a0sanctions that could force the company to comply with privacy laws.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2014\/01\/15\/google_appeals_against_cnil_fine\/?\" target=\"_blank\">the Register<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>French newspaper\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lefigaro.fr\/secteur\/high-tech\/2014\/01\/15\/01007-20140115ARTFIG00340-google-conteste-la-sanction-de-la-cnil-devant-le-conseil-d-etat.php\" target=\"_blank\"><cite>Le Figaro<\/cite><\/a>\u00a0reported today that Google had opposed the sanctions from Commission Nationale de l\u2019Informatique et des Libert\u00c3\u00a9s (CNIL), that also included requiring the company to publish a 48-hour notification statement on the google.fr site within eight days of the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The move may have bought Google some time: it means that the fine and temporary notification to its French users that it had violated data protection laws in the country will be suspended.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, even with these sanctions in place, the company has only been fined a pathetic\u00a0\u00e2\u201a\u00ac150,000.<\/p>\n<p>Which begs the question; with fines like this being so low &#8211; is it still more profitable for a Google to continue to break privacy laws and accept the fine?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well there&#8217;s a surprise.. the web&#8217;s biggest search giant which just so happens to be in the business of collecting personal data, objects to court-ordered\u00a0sanctions that could force the company to comply with privacy laws.
