Needless to say, it was a great year for us.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re looking forward to similar greatness in 2014. We have a lot of big things planned for this year that we hope will address a lot of the excellent feedback you have been giving us for some time. So please stay tuned.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With search founder\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.itproportal.com\/2012\/03\/16\/duckduckgo-hacktivists-search-engine\" target=\"_blank\">Gabriel Weinberg<\/a>\u00a0saying to media:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We always knew people didn&#8217;t want to be tracked, but what hadn&#8217;t happened was reporting on the private alternatives, and so it&#8217;s no surprise that people are making a choice to switch to things that that will give them great results and also have real privacy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had zero inquiries and the reason for that is because we don&#8217;t store any data. So if they come to us \u2013 which they know because it&#8217;s in our privacy policy \u2013 we have nothing to hand over, it&#8217;s all anonymous data.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itproportal.com\/2014\/01\/13\/anti-google-duckduckgo-served-1bn-searches-in-2013-after-post-nsa-surge\/?utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+itproportal%2Frss+%28Latest+ITProPortal+News%29&amp;utm_source=feedburner\" target=\"_blank\">ITPortal<\/a> notes that other privacy centric services have done well:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Other secure searching services have had a strong year, too.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/startpage.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">StartPage<\/a>, which offers Google results through a proxy that allows for anonymous searching, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ixquick.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ixquick<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.itproportal.com\/2010\/02\/01\/privacy-pioneer-search-engine-launches-anonymous-surfing-service\/\" target=\"_blank\">produced by the same company<\/a>\u00a0but offering results from multiple search engines, have boasted 4 million direct private searches a day.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since revelations emerged\u00a0last year about the NSA PRISM spying scandal, public mistrust in Google has been increasing and as a result web surfers started voting with their feet and began finding alternative search engines.
