{"id":102314,"date":"2013-12-31T23:03:15","date_gmt":"2013-12-31T23:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/biggest-threat-to-world-peace-the-united-states\/"},"modified":"2014-01-01T00:33:27","modified_gmt":"2014-01-01T00:33:27","slug":"biggest-threat-to-world-peace-the-united-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/biggest-threat-to-world-peace-the-united-states\/","title":{"rendered":"Biggest Threat to World Peace: The United States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over 12 years into the so-called &#8220;Global War on Terror,&#8221; the United States appears to be striking terror into the hearts of the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>In their annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wingia.com\/en\/services\/about_the_end_of_year_survey\/7\/\" target=\"_blank\">End of Year<\/a> survey, <em>Win\/Gallup International<\/em> found that the United States is considered the number one &#8220;greatest threat to peace in the world today&#8221; by people across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>The poll of 67,806 respondents from 65 countries found that the U.S. won this dubious distinction by a landslide, as revealed in the chart below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/sites\/commondreams.org\/files\/imce-images\/threat.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <em>BBC<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-25496299\" target=\"_blank\">explains<\/a> that the U.S. was deemed a threat by geopolitical allies as well as foes, including a significant portion of U.S. society.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Predictable in some areas (the Middle East and North Africa) but less so in others. Eastern Europe&#8217;s 32% figure may be heavily influenced by Russia and Ukraine, but across most of Western Europe there are also lots of figures in the high teens.<\/p>\n<p>In the Americas themselves, decades of US meddling have left an awkward legacy. Its neighbours, Mexico (37%) and Canada (17%), clearly have issues.
