Patrick Goodenough<\/strong> Republican and Democratic members of the House Intelligence Committee on Sunday questioned a central assertion in a major New York Times<\/i> investigative report, that neither al-Qaeda nor \u201cother international terrorist groups\u201d were involved in the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.<\/p>\n The Times<\/i> report<\/a> by David Kirkpatrick focuses on Ansar al-Shariah \u2014 a group that has long been implicated as having played a key role in the deadly attack \u2014 but disputes that it has links to al-Qaeda.<\/p>\n \u201c<\/i>Republican arguments appear to conflate purely local extremist organizations like Ansar al-Shariah with al-Qaeda’s international terrorist network,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) told \u201cFox News Sunday\u201d that the assertion Ansar al-Shariah does not have links to al-Qaeda was wrong \u2014 disputed by \u201cthe intelligence, to a large volume.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cNow, did they have differences of opinion with al-Qaeda core? Yes. Do they have affiliations with al-Qaeda core? Definitely,\u201d he said.
