Parts of the United States hit by a wild weekend storm are expected to be covered with ice and without power through Christmas. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Deadly storms pummeled parts of Michigan, northern New England and upstate New York on Monday, leaving more than 390,000 people without power, The Associated Press reports.<\/p>\n Utilities companies in the country have warned that power may not be restored for most before Christmas.<\/p>\n At least 11 deaths were killed as a result of storms in the US, including five people killed in Kentucky flooding and one woman who died after a deadly tornado swept through Arkansas. A Vermont man died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a generator that was running after the storm knocked out power at his house, state police said.<\/p>\n Michigan will be the most affected city by bad weather, the report says.<\/p>\n One of Michigan\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s power providers, Consumers Energy, said more than 200,000 customers in the southwest region may not have power until after the holiday, NBC reports.<\/p>\n Michigan\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s utilities said it’ll be days before power is restored because of the difficulty of working around broken lines, the AP says.<\/p>\n “It’s certainly not going away,” Margaret Curtis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, said Monday. “In fact, we don’t have very many areas where we’re expecting temperatures to rise above freezing.”<\/p>\n The weather had less effect on air travel, with around 200 flight cancellations \u201d in line with an average day of travel \u201d although more than 4,400 delays across the country.<\/p>\n ARA\/ARA<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
