Man held at gunpoint in handcuffs on his own front lawn<\/p>\n
Adan Salazar<\/strong><\/p>\n Connor Guerrero didn’t exactly get an apology after police erroneously raided his home last week and handcuffed him on his front lawn.<\/p>\n Instead, Guerrero says a Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy told him he should be grateful he wasn’t killed.<\/p>\n Guerrero, a recent college graduate, says he was enjoying a nice Wednesday evening at home when he heard someone outside.<\/p>\n \u201cJust trying to enjoy my evening. All the sudden, I see a flashlight shining through my doors\u2026,\u201d Guerrero said. \u201cI’m thinking this could be a dangerous situation for me.\u201d<\/p>\n Assuming he was the target of a robbery, Guerrero went to his door to ward off the potential thieves. That’s when things got out of control.<\/p>\n \u201cI come over to my door and I slap it to say hey someone is in this house and they’re not going to let you come in here\u2026 Right as soon as I opened this door, and it’s dark outside \u2014 it’s very dark and all I can see is a pistol,\u201d Guerrero recalled.<\/p>\n Guerrero heard a man yell, \u201cSheriff’s Office\u201d and complied with an order to step outside of his home.<\/p>\n Police held him at gunpoint, handcuffed him and accused him of breaking into his house.<\/p>\n \u201cThey directed me to take a knee, well both knees,\u201d he said. \u201cThe gun [was] still drawn.\u201d<\/p>\n When police finally looked at Guerrero’s ID, they realized they had the wrong house, but deputies weren’t about to admit their mistake.<\/p>\n Instead, Guerrero says an officer told him, \u201cYou’re lucky I didn’t [expletive] shoot you.\u201d<\/p>\n Police were in the area investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle but \u201cwent to the wrong house,\u201d according to KREM<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe went to the wrong house yes\u2026\u201d Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich admits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n One Sheriff explained the error, saying Guerrero was partially to blame. \u201cYou don’t pound on a door, open it and slam it that way. Put yourself in the deputies’ position,\u201d Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich stated.<\/p>\n Sheriff Knezovich says the department has already offered an apology, but Guerrero would like it to personally come from the two deputies involved in the raid.<\/p>\n It’s simply incredible that, despite the expansive surveillance network and advanced law enforcement technologies, raids on incorrect houses are still commonplace, but it’s even more incredible when police terrorize the public and refuse to own up to their mistakes.<\/p>\n As Texas and other states clear a path for search warrants to be obtained on \u201cpredictions of future crimes,\u201d<\/a> the potential for error will increase accordingly, and erroneous raids such as the one just described will occur with increased frequency.<\/p>\n
