Il PM rifiuta l'orario delle truppe di Irak
Sabato 19 luglio 2008 Discuta questo rapporto nelle tribune di RINF > Gordon Brown ha detto che favorisce la riduzione dei numeri della truppa in Irak ma non regolerebbe “un orario artificiale„ durante i colloqui con i capi iracheni. Il ministro principale inoltre ha venuto a contatto dei funzionari maggiori degli Stati Uniti durante la chiamata di sorpresa al paese, davanti ad una dichiarazione la settimana prossima sulla partecipazione della Gran-Bretagna là. Ha detto che “i progressi enormi„ erano stati realizzare recentemente in Irak e nel tributo reso “alla resilienza„ delle forze BRITANNICHE. Maliki è acuto ottenere un orario di ritiro sul posto prima delle elezioni presidenziali degli Stati Uniti in novembre. Nel frattempo la scalfittura liberale Clegg del capo della carbossimetilazione ha invitato il sig. Brown ritirare le truppe britanniche in Irak del sud e mettere più “nel lavoro sempre più difficile„ di combattimento il Taleban nell'Afghanistan del sud. In un sig. di conferenza stampa Brown ha detto che il numero di avvenimenti violenti aveva ridotto drammaticamente da quando era ultimo in Irak dicembre, cadendo da sei avvenimenti violenti un il giorno ad uno ogni sei giorni. “I progressi enormi sono stati realizzare,„ ha detto. “It’s important to recognise that security, prosperity, local democracy - these are the things that we are trying to move forward and trying to achieve.” He added: “I am very grateful for the way the British forces behaved in such an exemplary manner. Their professionalism, and their courage, and their dedication is very much part of the progress that has happened.”
Mr Brown - whose visit was not announced in advance for security reasons - spent just under an hour in talks with Mr Maliki, then with his advisers. He then spent 20 minutes with Mr Talabani at the presidential palace. In his last visit in December he announced the official handover of Basra to Iraqi authorities. This week Iraq and the US called for an agreement on a “general time horizon” for the withdrawal of US troops. ‘Basra another Dubai’ The UN mandate covering foreign troops in Iraq expires at the end of the year. The US is negotiating a new bi-lateral agreement to cover their continuing presence, and Britain will have to do the same, said Jim Muir. He said Mr Brown would also be talking to Mr Talabani about the “broader relationship” between the UK and Iraq, with a focus on getting more investment and jobs into the country.
