A US soldier is being tried in absentia by an Italian court for the murder of Nicola Calipari, the intelligence agent who died on the road to Baghdad Airport shortly after securing the release of Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena. مجند امريكى يحاكم غيابيا من قبل محكمة ايطاليه لقتل نيكولا calipari ، والمخابرات من مات على الطريق المؤدي الى مطار بغداد بعد وقت قصير من اطلاق سراح الصحفى الايطالى giuliana sgrena.
While everyone agrees that Mario Lozano, an American soldier, fired the fatal shots that killed Italian agent Nicola Calipari in Iraq two years ago, that is where the agreement ends. وفي حين يتفق الجميع على ان ماريو لوزانو ، جندي أميركي ، وأطلقت أعيرة ناريه قاتلة وادى الى مقتل وكيل الايطاليه نيكولا calipari في العراق قبل عامين ، اي الحالات التي يكون فيها الاتفاق الغايات. For the United States government, the case is closed but Rome sees things somewhat differently. لحكومة الولايات المتحدة ، القضية مغلقة ولكن روما ترى الامور بصورة مختلفة نوعا ما. Calipari, a senior intelligence agent, was shot dead on March 5, 2005 as he was escorting the Italian hostage, journalist Giuliana Sgrena, to Baghdad Airport shortly after negotiating her release. After preliminary motions on Tuesday the judge adjourned the trial until May 14. بعد الطلبات الأولية يوم الثلاثاء القاضي تأجيل المحاكمه حتى 14 ايار / مايو.
In recent comments to the US media, Lozano has defended his actions. في التعليقات الاخيرة الى وسائل الاعلام الاميركية ، لوزانو قد دافع عن افعاله. He said he flashed a warning light and that he shot first at the ground and then at the engine. وقال انه مومض ضوء تحذير وانه اطلق النار اولا على ارض الواقع ، ثم في المحرك. “I did what any soldier would do in my position.” Lozano told the New York Post . "لقد فعلت ما من شأنه ان يفعل اى جندى فى موقفى." وقال لوزانو نيويورك بوست. “You have a warning line, you have a danger line and you have a kill line.” And in another interview with CBS he said: “I’m just an infantry soldier doing my job.” "لديك خط الانذار ، لديك خط الخطر وكان لديك خط قتل." وآخر في مقابلة مع سى بى اس وقال : "أنا مجرد جندي مشاة القيام عملى."
Fabrizio Cardinali, Lozano’s former court-appointed lawyer, told the Associated Press that the shooting was the result of the Italians’ lack of caution. فابريزيو cardinali ، لوزانو السابق المحامي المعين من قبل المحكمه ، ابلغ وكالة اسوشيتد برس ان اطلاق النار كان نتيجة الايطاليون 'عدم وجود الحذر. “What happened was not the fault of the checkpoint but the fault of the Italians who did not have any military escort,” he said. Sgrena, the freed hostage, who Calipari was shielding when he died, was injured during the shooting and is suing for damages. The death of Calipari وفاة calipari angered many in Italy اغضب الكثيرين في إيطاليا where he is now regarded as a national hero. أين هو الآن يعتبر بطل وطني. Although Rome agrees that the killing was an accident, the two governments have failed to agree on the events in Baghdad that led to Calipari’s death. ورغم ان روما يوافق على ان القتل كان حادثا ، فإن كلتا الحكومتين ، فشل في التوصل الى اتفاق بشان الاحداث التي وقعت في بغداد التي ادت الى وفاة calipari. While the US authorities insist that the vehicle was travelling fast and led soldiers to fear an insurgent attack, Italian officials claim that the car was traveling at normal speed and it blamed the soldiers for failing to signal that there was a checkpoint. وفي حين ان السلطات الامريكية تصر على ان السياره كان يستقل الجنود بسرعة وادى الى الخوف من هجوم متمرده والايطاليه ويدعي المسؤولون ان السياره كانت تسير بسرعة عادية في وحمل الجنود لعدم للاشارة الى ان هناك نقطة تفتيش. It also criticized the US military for placing inexperienced troops at the roadblock. كما انتقدت الولايات المتحدة تفتقر الى الخبرة العسكرية للقوات فى وضع الحاجز.
The trial is just one of many recent incidents that have soured relations between Rome and Washington. المحاكمه مجرد واحدة من بين العديد من الحوادث الاخيرة التي توتر العلاقات بين واشنطن وروما. Italian prosecutors have indicted 26 Americans, all but one believed to be CIA agents, over the case of the النيابة العامة الايطاليه 26 لائحة اتهام الاميركيين ، ولكن كل واحد يعتقد ان عملاء وكالة المخابرات المركزية ، أكثر من حالة من abduction of Egyptian terror suspect Osama Moustafa Hassan Nasr اختطاف المصري الارهاب المشتبه فيه اسامة مصطفى حسن نصرالله , better known as Abu Omar, in Milan in February 2003. ، المعروف باسم ابو عمر في ميلانو في شباط / فبراير 2003.
