Αμερικανικός προεδρικός υποψήφιος, Sen. John McCain τη Δευτέρα επέκρινε το δημοκρατικό προεδρικό υποψήφιο Sen. Οι κλήσεις Obama Barack για την απόσυρση των ΗΠΑ συγκεντρώνονται από το Ιράκ, που λέει ότι ένα τέτοιο pullout θα έβλαπτε την ασφάλεια του Ισραήλ.

Μιλώντας στην αμερικανική Επιτροπή υποθέσεων του Ισραήλ δημόσια (AIPAC), McCain ανατίναξε επίσης τις κλήσεις Obama για τις συζητήσεις με το Ιράν.

«Οι Ιρανοί έχουν περάσει τα έτη εργαζόμενος προς ένα πυρηνικό πρόγραμμα,» McCain εν λόγω, «και η ιδέα ότι επιδιώκουν τώρα τα πυρηνικά όπλα επειδή αρνούμαστε να συμμετέχουμε στις προεδρικός-ισόπεδες συζητήσεις είναι σοβαρή της ιστορίας.»

«Ακόμα κι έτσι, ακούμε τη συζήτηση μιας συνεδρίασης με την ιρανική ηγεσία προσφερθείσα επάνω σαν ήταν κάποια ξαφνική έμπνευση, μια τολμηρή νέα ιδέα την οποία κάπως καμία δεν έχει σκεφτεί πάντα πριν,» αυτός είπε.

«Ακόμα είναι δύσκολο να δει τι μια τέτοια σύνοδος κορυφής με τον Πρόεδρο Ahmadinejad θα κέρδιζε πραγματικά, εκτός από έναν earful αντισημιτικού κομπάζει, και ένα παγκόσμιο ακροατήριο για ένα άτομο που αρνείται ένα ολοκαύτωμα και μιλά πριν από τα φρενιτιώδη πλήθη για την έναρξη άλλου,» ο γερουσιαστής της Αριζόνα συνεχιζόμενος. «Ένα τέτοιο θέαμα θα έβλαπτε Ιρανό συγκρατεί και αποστάτες, δεδομένου ότι οι ριζοσπάστες και οι αδιάλλακτοι ενισχύουν τη θέση τους και αποκτούν ξαφνικά την εμφάνιση της σεβασμιότητας.»

Το McCain φάνηκε σε Sen. Οι προηγούμενες δηλώσεις του Obama έκαναν κατά τη διάρκεια μιας συζήτησης το 2007 στην οποία εξέφρασε την προθυμία να πραγματοποιήσει τις συζητήσεις με τους ηγέτες της Κούβας, του Ιράν, της βόρειας Κορέας και της Συρίας.
Ένας εκπρόσωπος εκστρατείας Obama, Hari Sevugan, ήταν γρήγορος να ανταπαντήσει. «John McCain επίμονα επι:μένω στη συνέχιση μιας επικίνδυνης και αποτυχημένης εξωτερικής πολιτικής που έχει καταστήσει σαφώς τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και το Ισραήλ λιγότερο ασφαλείς.»

«Εδώ είναι τα αποτελέσματα των πολιτικών που John McCain έχει υποστηρίξει, και θα συνεχίζονταν. Κατά τη διάρκεια της διοίκησης των Μπους, το Ιράν έχει επεκτείνει εντυπωσιακά το πυρηνικό πρόγραμμά του, η μετάβαση από μηδέν υποβάλλει σε φυγοκέντρωση σε περισσότερο από 3000 υποβάλλει,» ο εκπρόσωπος στρατόπεδων Obama προστιθέμενος.

Επιπλέον, ο πόλεμος στο Ιράκ που John McCain υποστήριξε και υπόσχεται να συνεχίσει κατά τρόπο αόριστο έχει κάνει περισσότερων για να ενισχύσει εντυπωσιακά και να ενθαρρύνει το Ιράν από τίποτα σε μια παραγωγή.»

Το McCain επέκρινε επίσης τις κλήσεις Obama για την αφαίρεση των αμερικανικών στρατευμάτων από το Ιράκ. “You would never know from listening to those who are still caught up in angry arguments over yesterday’s options, but our troops in Iraq have made hard-won progress under General Petraeus’ new strategy.” he said.

“[Withdrawal from Iraq] would surely result in a catastrophe,” McCain said. “If our troops are ordered to make a forced retreat, we risk all-out civil war, genocide, and a failed state in the heart of the Middle East. Al Qaida terrorists would rejoice in the defeat of the United States.

“Allowing a potential terrorist sanctuary would profoundly affect the security of the United States, Israel, and our other friends, and would invite further intervention from Iraq’s neighbors, including an emboldened Iran. We must not let this happen.”

In his speech, McCain called for measures aimed at increasing pressure on Iran, such as severely limiting Iranian imports of gasoline, targeted sanctions such as denying visas and freezing assets and a worldwide campaign to divest from companies doing business with Iran.

McCain called for financial sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran, which he said aids in terrorism and weapons proliferation, and he criticized Obama for opposing a measure to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization responsible for killing US troops in Iraq.

McCain has warm relations with the group, which is influential in the Jewish community. His call for sanctions against gasoline imports is a priority that AIPAC’s members plan to lobby for in Congress later in the week.

In contrast, Obama has worked to reassure Jewish voters who have expressed some unease about his candidacy.

“I welcome the Muslim world’s accurate perception that I am interested in opening up dialogue and interested in moving away from the unilateral policies of George Bush, but nobody should mistake that for a softer stance when it comes to terrorism or when it comes to protecting Israel’s security or making sure that the alliance is strong and firm,” Obama said in an interview last month with The Atlantic magazine. “You will not see, under my presidency, any slackening in commitment to Israel’s security.”
