‘Iraq quagmire real threat to US’ 'مستنقع العراق خطرا حقيقيا على الولايات المتحدة'

The US is not capable of protecting itself from the threats to its security as far as it is entangled in Iraq, Democratic lawmakers say. الولايات المتحدة ليست قادرة على حمايه نفسها من التهديدات لأمنها بقدر ما هو entangled في العراق ، ويقول المشرعون الديمقراطيه.

Democrats criticized the Bush administration’s war policy during the second day of testimony to Congress by Gen. David Petraeus, US commander in Iraq, and Ambassador Ryan Crocker on Wednesday. وانتقد الديمقراطيون ادارة بوش سياسة الحرب خلال اليوم الثاني من الشهاده الى الكونغرس من قبل الجنرال ديفيد petraeus ، القائد الاميركي في العراق ، والسفير ريان كروكر يوم الاربعاء.

Democratic senators, as well as some Republicans, also expressed frustration that an end to the Iraq deployment did not appear to be in sight. الديمقراطيه في مجلس الشيوخ ، وكذلك بعض الجمهوريين ، واعرب ايضا عن الاحباط التي وضع حد لانتشار العراق لا يبدو ان في الافق.

“We and the American people must ask: Why should we stay in Iraq in large numbers?” asked Rep. Ike Skelton, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. "ونحن والشعب الامريكى يجب ان نسأل : لماذا ينبغي لنا ان البقاء في العراق بأعداد كبيرة؟" طلبت من Rep ايك سكيلتون ، رئيس مجلس النواب لجنة القوات المسلحه.

Democrats also told Gen. Petraeus and Ryan Crocker that President George W. Bush has failed to focus on the bigger threat of al-Qaeda from the Afghan-Pakistan border. الديمقراطيون أيضا petraeus وقال الجنرال ريان كروكر بان الرئيس جورج دبليو بوش لم تركز على التهديد الاكبر لتنظيم القاعده من الحدود بين افغانستان وباكستان.

Petraeus, however, said al Qaeda leaders “still view Iraq as the central front in their global strategy, (and) send funding, direction and foreign fighters to Iraq.” Petraeus ، ومع ذلك ، قال قادة تنظيم القاعده "لا يزال العراق كما رأى الجبهة الوسطى في استراتيجيتها العالمية ، (و) ارسال التمويل والتوجيه والمقاتلين الأجانب إلى العراق."

Meanwhile, President George W. Bush met on Wednesday with members of Congress from both parties to discuss Iraq and was to make a speech on the situation there on Thursday morning. وفي الوقت ذاته ، الرئيس جورج دبليو بوش التقى يوم الاربعاء مع أعضاء الكونغرس من كلا الطرفين لمناقشة موضوع العراق ، وكان مقررا ان يلقي كلمة عن الوضع هناك صباح يوم الخميس.

The US has 160,000 troops in Iraq after boosting the force last year. الولايات المتحدة 160000 جندي في العراق ، بعد زيادة النفاذ في العام الماضي. The Pentagon has begun to pull about 20,000 of those extra combat troops out. البنتاغون بدأت سحب حوالى 20000 من قوات مكافحة تلك اضافية. Once that pullout is finished in July, the US force in Iraq will stand at 140,000. وبمجرد ان الانسحاب قد انتهت فى يوليو / تموز ، الولايات المتحدة القوة في العراق وسوف نقف على 140000.
