PARIS — The UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague on Thursday acquitted a former commander of the rebel Kosovo Liberation Army of all charges of war crimes in a decision that could inflame anti-Kosovo sentiment in Serbia just weeks after Kosovo unilaterally declared independence. باريس -- للامم المتحدة لمحكمة جرائم الحرب فى لاهاى يوم الخميس برئ قائد سابق للمتمردين في جيش تحرير كوسوفو من جميع التهم الموجهة اليه بارتكاب جرائم حرب في قرار يمكن ان تؤجج المشاعر المناهضه كوسوفو في صربيا اسابيع فقط بعد استقلال كوسوفو المعلنة من جانب واحد.

The commander, Ramush Haradinaj, who also briefly served as prime minister of Kosovo, was found not guilty of murder, persecution, rape and torture of Kosovo Serb civilians and some ethnic Albanians. قائد راموش هاراديناي الذي بايجاز ايضا بمثابة رئيس وزراء كوسوفو ، ووجد مذنبا لا القتل ، والاضطهاد ، والتعذيب والاغتصاب للمدنيين صرب كوسوفو وبعض المنحدرين من اصل الباني.

The crimes were said to have been carried out by men under his command in 1998, when the rebels fought to free their largely ethnic Albanian region from Serbian rule. الجرائم التي قيل انه قد قامت بها الرجال العاملين تحت قيادته في عام 1998 ، عندما حارب المتمردين الى تخليص المنطقة الى حد كبير من ذوي الاصل الالباني من الحكم الصربي.

Another rebel commander, Idriz Balaj, was also acquitted, while a third defendant, Lahi Brahimaj, was sentenced to six years in prison for torture and cruel treatment of prisoners. قائد آخر للمتمردين ، ادريس بالاي ، كما برئ ، في حين ان المتهم الثالث ، أهي براهيماي ، حكم عليه بالسجن لمدة ست سنوات في السجن لتعذيب والمعامله القاسيه للسجناء.

The two men who were acquitted, who may return home as early as today, are expected to be given heroes’ welcome. الرجلين اللذين تمت تبرئة ، ويجوز له العودة إلى ديارهم في وقت مبكر اليوم ، ومن المتوقع ان تعطي الابطال الترحيب. The judges said that the trial had been subject to many shortcomings, including vague evidence and widespread fear among witnesses, suggesting that the full version of events had not been told. وقال القضاة ان المحاكمه قد خضع لكثير من أوجه القصور ، بما فيها الادله غامضة وتفشي الخوف بين الشهود ، مما يشير الى ان النسخه الكاملة من احداث لم يكن ل.

The case against Haradinaj was fraught with difficulties. القضية المرفوعه ضد هاراديناي كان محفوفا بالصعوبات. Western diplomats tried to dissuade Carla Del Ponte, who was chief prosecutor, from an indictment of Haradinaj, arguing that he was a respected political leader who played a necessary role in stabilizing Kosovo. الدبلوماسيين الغربيين حاول ثني كارلا ديل بونتي ، رئيسة الادعاء العام الذي كان ، من لائحة الاتهام من هاراديناى ، معتبرة انه كان محترما الزعيم السياسي ، التي لعبت دور ضروري في استقرار كوسوفو.

Oliver Ivanovic, who represents Kosovo Serbs, told the FoNet news agency in Belgrade that the acquittals would make it more difficult to demand that the Serbian government arrest Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic. اوليفر ايفانوفيتش ، والذي يمثل صرب كوسوفو ، وابلغ وكالة الأنباء FoNet في بلغراد ان بالبراءه من شأنه ان يجعل من الاصعب على الطلب ان الحكومة الصربيه القبض على راتكو ملاديتش ورادوفان كاراديتش. Serbs will see the tribunal as even more of a political, rather than a legal, institution, Ivanovic said. الصرب سيري المحكمه اكثر من سياسي ، وليس قانوني ، والمءسسه ، وقالت ايفانوفيتش. He added, “It will be now very difficult to convince any Serb that this is not an anti-Serb tribunal.” وأضاف : "سيكون من الصعب جدا الآن لاقناع الصرب اي ان هذه ليست معاديه للصرب في المحكمه."
