After 18 years of a Conservative government that had cosied up to dictators and بعد 18 سنة من الحكومة المحافظة التي تصل الى cosied والطغاه murderous regimes الانظمه القاتلة around the globe; that had overseen the destruction of the country’s manufacturing and mining industries; that had driven 3 million people out of work and on to the dole, and that had seen the affable في جميع انحاء العالم ؛ التى اشرفت على تدمير البلد والصناعة التحويليه والتعدين والصناعات التي كانت مدفوعه من 3 ملايين شخص من اصل العمل ومنها الى دول ، والتي شهدت اجتماعي Dixon of Dock Green ديكسون من الرصيف الاخضر transformed into a brutal and vicious تحولت الى وحشية وشرسه agent of the state وكيلا للدولة , I, like many other people at the time, truly believed that with New Labour in power, things could only get better. انني ، مثل كثير غيرها من الناس في ذلك الوقت ، يعتقد حقا انه مع العمل الجديد فى السلطة ، لا يمكن الا ان الامور تتحسن.
A few days later, when Robin Cook delivered his وبعد ايام قليلة ، عندما القى صاحب روبن كوك speech خطاب outlining the new administration’s commitment to an ethical foreign policy, I relaxed, breathed a sigh of relief, and watched with joy as the old guard retreated, licking their wounds after such a thorough and well-deserved trouncing. تبين ان الادارة الجديدة للالتزام أخلاقي على السياسة الخارجية ، انني الاسترخاء ، تنفس الصعداء ، ويشاهد مع الفرح كما تراجع الحرس القديم ، ولعق جراحه بعد هذه شامل عن جدارة والضرب.
In that speech, Cook said: في ذلك الخطاب ، وقال كوك :
The Labour government does not accept that political values can be left behind when we check in our passports to travel on diplomatic business. حكومة العمل لا يقبل ان القيم السياسية يمكن أن تترك وراءها عندما نتحقق في جوازات السفر الدبلوماسية على السفر الى الاعمال التجارية. The Labour government will put human rights at the heart of our foreign policy. العمل الحكومة وضع حقوق الانسان في صميم سياستنا الخارجية.
So how exactly did we get from that, to this Orwellian اذا ، كيف بالضبط هل وصلنا الى الهدف من ذلك ، لهذا اورويلي Newspeak Newspeak from من Gordon Brown this week غوردون براون هذا الاسبوع :

In cahoots with an equally distasteful American regime, the New Labour government has masterminded and overseen an erosion to individual freedoms and liberties that both Thatcher and Reagan, even in the darkest days of their rule, could only have dreamed of. في تواطؤ مقيت على قدم المساواة مع النظام الامريكى ، الحكومة العماليه الجديدة قد اشرفت على العقل المدبر والى تآكل الحريات الفرديه على حد سواء ان تاتشر وريغان ، حتى في أحلك أيام حكمهم ، ويمكن الا ان يكون يحلم به. Not content with removing all ethics from our foreign policy, they are doing their damnedest to make sure that before we know it, civil liberties and human rights at home will soon be nothing more than a distant memory. ولم تكتف ازالة جميع الاخلاق من سياستنا الخارجية ، وهي تبذل كل ما أعجب للتأكد من انه قبل ان نعرفه ، والحريات المدنيه وحقوق الانسان في الداخل في وقت قريب ، ليس اكثر من ذكرى بعيدة. We’re left wondering how many years it will be before these secret records are opened up for scrutiny, if indeed they ever are. نحن ويتساءل كيف تركت سنوات عديدة وسيكون امام هذه السجلات السرية لفتح التدقيق ، واذا هي في الواقع من اي وقت مضى. Perhaps the so-called war on terror will never end, and we’ve finally arrived at Orwell’s perpetual war. ولعل ما يسمى الحرب على الارهاب لن تنتهي ابدا ، ولقد وصلت أخيرا في اورويل دائم للحرب.
For 18 long years I campaigned to help get a Labour government back into power, but I never signed up for any of this; the loss of our civil liberties was never a part of the game plan. لمدة 18 سنوات طويلة الأول بحملة لمساعدة الحكومة للحصول على العمل على العودة الى السلطة ، ولكني وقعت ابدا عن اي من هذه ؛ الخسارة من الحريات المدنيه لم تكن قط جزءا من خطة اللعبة. And if Brown’s now wondering why his ratings are so low, why his party’s nearly bankrupt and his defeat at the next election is all but assured, then he needs to think carefully about those of us who have been sold so short by 11 years of New Labour mismanagement. واذا كان براون ان يتساءل لماذا بلدة التصنيفات منخفضه جدا ، لماذا حزبه تقريبا مفلسه وهزيمته في الانتخابات المقبلة ، ولكنه أكد للجميع ومن ثم هناك حاجة الى التفكير مليا في تلك منا من تم بيع قصيرة جدا من قبل 11 عاما من العمل الجديد وسوء الادارة. He needs to think about those who helped this government into power, and who can now only look on in horror as slowly but surely, brick by brick, they dismantle everything we hold precious. وقال انه يحتاج الى التفكير في هذه ساعدت هذه الحكومة من السلطة ، ويمكن من الان الا ان يلقي نظرة على في هلع ببطء ولكن بثبات ، لبنة لبنة ، انها تفكيك كل شيء ونحن نحمل الثمينه.
Liam Byrne can wax lyrical about Britishness all he likes; his government lost sight of what that means many years ago. Liam بايرن يمكن ان الشمع الغناءيه البريطانية عن جميع يروق له ؛ حكومته تغيب عن البال ما يعنيه ذلك قبل سنوات عديدة. Whether it happens on St George’s Day or on the ما إذا كان يحدث على القديس جورج في اليوم او على August bank holiday اب / اغسطس عطلة البنوك , when they finally start enforcing their mass celebrations and dictating to the populace how best to commemorate our illusory freedom, I’ll be staying inside my house with my doors and windows firmly locked and I’d advise everyone else to do the same. ، واخيرا عندما تبدأ اعمالها الاحتفالات الجماعية ويملي على الناس افضل طريقة للاحتفال بذكرى لدينا حرية وهميه ، وانا سأكون البقاء داخل بيتي مع بلادي الابواب والنوافذ بقوة مغلق وانا اسداء المشوره الى اي شخص اخر على ان تحذو حذوها. As كان Alan Paton said وقال الن باتون :
Cry, the beloved country, for the unborn child that is the inheritor of our fear. البكاء ، البلد الحبيب ، من أجل الطفل الذي لم يولد بعد وهذا هو الوارث من الخوف. Let him not love the earth too deeply. دعه لا أحب الارض كثيرا. Let him not laugh too gladly when the water runs through his fingers, nor stand too silent when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire. دعه لا تضحك بسرور جدا عندما المياه يمر من خلال اصابعه ، ولا تقف صامتة جدا عندما شمس يجعل الاحمر السهب بالنار. Let him not be too moved when the birds of his land are singing, nor give too much of his heart to a mountain or a valley. دعه لا يكون مكلفا تحرك عندما الطيور ارضه هي الغناء ، ولا يعطي الكثير من قلبه الى الجبال او الوادي. For fear will rob him of all if he gives too much. خوفا سيكون له من جميع روب لو سلم اكثر من اللازم.
