Is the Creative Internet Just About Dead? هو الخلاق شبكة الانترنت فقط عن الميت؟
By بواسطة Annalee Newitz Annalee newitz | A couple of weeks ago I went to the annual Maker Faire in San Mateo, an event where people from all over the world gather for a giant DIY technology show-and-tell extravaganza. | قبل اسبوعين ذهبت الى صانع فير السنوي في سان ماتيو ، وهو حدث فيها الناس من جميع انحاء العالم لجمع عملاقة تظهر اعمال اليدويه التكنولوجيا واخبر الروعه. There are robots, kinetic sculptures, rockets, remote-controlled battleship contests, music-controlled light shows, home electronics kits, ill-advised science experiments (like the Mentos-Diet Coke explosions), and even a barn full of people who make their own clothing, pillows, bags, and more. وهناك الروبوتات ، النحت الحركي ، والصواريخ ، ويتم التحكم فيها عن بعد سفينة حربية المسابقات ، والموسيقى الخفيفه التي تسيطر عليها تظهر ، على الصفحه الاولى والالكترونيات ومجموعات غير حكيم التجارب العلميه (مثل النظام الغذائي وفحم الكوك وmentos - الانفجارات) ، وحتى الشونه الكامل من الناس من جعل الملابس الخاصة بها ، والوسائد ، وأكياس ، واكثر من ذلك. And yet the Maker Faire takes place against a backdrop of increasing constraints on our freedom to innovate with technology, as Oxford University researcher Jonathan Zittrain points out in his latest book, The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It (Yale University Press). ولكن صانع فير تجري في ظل خلفية من زيادة القيود المفروضة على حريتنا على الابتكار مع التكنولوجيا ، وجامعة اكسفورد الباحث جوناثان zittrain يشير في كتابه الاخير ، مستقبل الانترنت وكيف يمكن وضع حد لأنها (مطبعه جامعة ييل). After spending several years investigating the social and political rules that govern the Internet — and spearheading the Net censorship tracking project OpenNet Initiative — Zittrain looks back on the Net’s development and predicts a dystopian future. بعد ان قضى عدة سنوات التحقيق والاجتماعية والسياسية والقواعد التي تحكم الانترنت -- وقامت بدور رائد في صافي الرقابة تتبع المشروع opennet مبادره -- zittrain يتطلع الى الوراء على صافي تنمية وتتنبا dystopian المستقبل. What’s chilling is that his dystopia is already coming to pass. ما تقشعر لها الأبدان هو ان عالم الواقع المرير هو ان تمر بالفعل القادمة.
Zittrain traces the Net’s history through three phases. Zittrain يتتبع تاريخ صافية من خلال ثلاث مراحل. Initially it was composed of what he calls “sterile” technologies: vast mainframes owned by IBM, which companies could rent time on. في البداية كانت تتألف من ما يسمى ب "العقيمه" التكنولوجيات : الحاسبات الكبرى الواسعه التي تملكها شركة اى بى ام ، التي يمكن للشركات ان الايجار على الوقت. What made those technologies sterile is that nobody could experiment with them (except IBM), and therefore innovation related to them stagnated. ما جعل تلك التكنولوجيات العقيمه هو ان احدا لا يمكن ان التجربه معها (باستثناء شركة اي بي ام) ، وذلك الابتكار المتعلقة بها راكده.
That’s why the invention of the desktop PC and popularization of the Internet ushered in an era of unprecedented high-tech innovation. ولهذا السبب فان الاختراع من سطح المكتب جهاز الكمبيوتر والترويج للانترنت ايذانا ببدء حقبة لم يسبق لها مثيل على مستوى عال من التقنيه والابتكار. Zittrain calls these open-ended technologies “generative.” Anybody can build other technologies that work with them. Zittrain يدعو الى فتح باب العضويه لهذه التكنولوجيات "generative." اي شخص يمكن ان يبنى غيرها من التكنولوجيات التي عمل معها. So, for example, people built Skype and the World Wide Web, both software technologies that sit on top of the basic network software infrastructure of the Internet. ذلك ، على سبيل المثال ، تبنى الشعب Skype والشبكه العالمية ، والبرامج على حد سواء التكنولوجيات التي تجلس على أعلى من النظام الاساسي للشبكة برامج البنية الاساسية للانترنت. But Zittrain thinks we’re seeing the end of the freewheeling Internet and PC era. ولكن يعتقد zittrain نحن نشهد نهاية للحرة عصر الكمبيوتر والانترنت. Tethered technologies are items like iPhones or many brands of DVR — they’re sterile to their owners, who aren’t allowed to build software that runs on them. But they’re generative to the companies that make them, in the sense that Comcast can update your DVR remotely, or Apple can brick your iPhone remotely if you try to do something naughty to it (like run your own software program on it). ولكن لأنهم generative الشركات التي تقدم لهم ، بمعنى ان comcast يمكن ان تقوم بتحديث dvr عن بعد ، يمكن لبنة تفاح او اي فون الخاص بك عن بعد اذا كنت تحاول ان تفعل شيئا لأنه شقي (مثل تشغيل الخاصة بك على برنامج حاسوبي).
In some ways, tethered technologies are worse than plain old sterile technologies. في بعض النواحي ، tethered التكنولوجيات اسوأ مما سهل التكنولوجيات القديمة العقيمه. They allow for abuses undreamed of in the IBM mainframe era. فهي تتيح لغير محلوم التجاوزات من شركة آي بي ام في عصر الحاسوب. For example, iPhone tethering could lead to law enforcement going to Apple and saying, “Please activate the microphone on this iPhone that we know is being carried by a suspect.” The device turns into an instant bug, without all the fuss of following the suspect around or installing surveillance crap in her apartment. فعلى سبيل المثال ، ربط اي فون يمكن ان يؤدي الى انفاذ القانون والذهاب الى التفاحه وقال : "الرجاء تنشيط ميكروفون على هذا ونحن نعلم ان اي فون يجري من قبل احد المشتبه فيهم." تتحول الى اداة لحظة عله ، دون الاهتمام للجميع وبعد حول المشتبه فيه او تركيب مراقبة الفضلات في شقتها. This isn’t idle speculation, by the way. وهذه ليست عاطله المضاربه ، من جانب الطريق. OnStar, the manufacturer of a car emergency system, was asked by law enforcement to activate the mics in certain cars using its system. Onstar ، الشركة المصنعه للسيارة نظام الطوارئ ، وسئل عن انفاذ القانون لتفعيل هذه الدراسات الاستقصاءيه في بعض السيارات تستخدم هذا النظام. It refused and went to court. رفضت وذهبت الى المحكمه.
Zittrain’s solution to the tethering problem is to encourage the existence of communities like the ones who participate in Maker Faire or who edit Wikipedia. Zittrain للربط حل لهذه المشكلة هو التشجيع على وجود مثل تلك المجتمعات المحلية من المشاركة في صانع فير او من تحرير ويكيبيديا. These are people who work together to create open, untethered technologies and information repositories. هذه هي الناس من العمل معا من اجل تهيئة مفتوحة ، غير مقيد او محكوم بحبل تكنولوجيات المعلومات والمستودعات. They are the force that pushes back against companies that want to sterilize the Internet and turn it back into something that spits information at you, television-style. وهي القوة التي تدفع الى الوراء ضد الشركات التي تريد ان تعقيم شبكة الانترنت وتحويلها الى الوراء الى شيء ان البصاق في المعلومات لكم ، على غرار التلفزيون. I think this is a good start, but there are a lot of problems with depending on communities of DIY enthusiasts to fix a system created by corporate juggernauts. واعتقد ان هذه بداية طيبة ، لكن هناك الكثير من المشاكل مع المجتمعات المحلية تبعا للاعمال اليدويه المتحمسين لتحديد النظام الذي أنشئ من قبل الشركات juggernauts.
