Heavy snowfall badly affects UK economy

Recent reports have shown that the UK economy is being dangerously hit with snowfall hazards.

The UK economy is being dangerously hit with the latest heavy snowfall that caused a loss of working days for manufacturers and builders, as well as falls in other major businesses, local media reported.

Richard Dodd from the British Retail Consortium, a body representing the country's major chains, said: "At a time when retailers are already under pressure, bad weather which keeps people from going shopping is very bad news."

It will be revealed this week that the UK’s ailing economy shrank once again in the fourth quarter of 2012 and it is predicted the snowy conditions could now push the first quarter of 2013 into the red.

The hazardous weather conditions across Britain has caused commuters to struggle getting to work, while airlines and train operators were held up with a blanket of snow and ice.

The snow brought about a loss of working days for manufacturers and builders, allied to falls in business for shops and restaurants.

Shop owners and workers on a deserted Oxford Street, central London's main shopping destination said trade had been hit heavily since Friday.

Chief European and UK economist Howard Archer said, "With the bad weather looking set to continue well into this week and possibly beyond, the risk of a triple dip recession is growing by the day."

Snow Costs UK Economy ‘£500m A Day’

Today's heavy snow could cost the UK economy almost £500m, according to new research by insurance group RSA.

The bad weather continues to engulf the UK , with up to 30cm - or a foot - of snow expected in south Wales.

RSA based its findings on the economic impact of the severe weather conditions in December 2010.

At the time, the Office for National Statistics estimated the snow caused the UK economy to contract by 0.5% in the fourth quarter.

Jon Sellors, RSA's head of research, told Sky News the ongoing weather conditions had impacted businesses, schools and the transport system.

"We estimate that up to a third of the UK's workforce have been unable to get into work, which would cost the economy up to £473m.

"And if the bad weather continues, the economic cost is only going to get higher."

Ross Walker, UK economist at RBS, said there was an "obvious risk" snow would hit growth in the UK.

"This weather comes at a bad time - when the economy is growing at a 1% annual rate, it doesn't take much in any individual quarter to push it backwards," he told Sky News.

But he stressed it is important not to overstate impact of bad weather: “If you get a negative GDP figure because of weather then that is a one-off - it does not represent an underlying economic problem."

It comes amid fears that Britain's economy shrank in the final quarter of the year - with official figures due next Friday.

The industries most likely to be affected by bad weather are construction and retail, Mr Walker added.

At the end of 2010 - when heavy snow fell in some areas of the UK for weeks - construction was down by 3.3%.

"Construction is obviously vulnerable to bad weather, and retail could also get hit," he said.

"Although if it snows so heavily that you don't go and buy a pair of shoes you want, you will probably go and get them when the weather improves."

But Douglas McWilliams, chief executive of the Centre for Economic and Business Research, said the snow could hit some businesses hard.

"The economy isn't in great shape, and the retail sector isn't in great shape," he told Sky News.

"So even if in aggregate retailers don't lose out over a two or three month period, cash is king.

"If you lose a day's takings it may be the straw that breaks the camel's back."

The bad weather comes at a testing time for Britain's high streets, following a tough Christmas period.

Official retail figures were worse than expected, showing a 0.3% fall in total sales in December compared with the month before.

Since the start of 2013 three big names – Jessops, HMV and Blockbuster – have already been forced to call in the administrators.

Government’s Drive To Expel Foreign Students Is ‘Damaging UK Economy’

Calls to crackdown on bogus foreign students have driven large numbers of genuine overseas applicants to competitor countries, damaging not only universities but also the UK economy, a university chief has warned.

Chief executive of Universities UK, Nicola Dandridge, said repeated statements by ministers to be tougher on immigration had made international students feel unwelcome.

She said universities are reporting a significant drop in the number of students applying from overseas, particularly from India, Pakistan, China and Saudi Arabia,

"These are countries that send large numbers and also they are important countries in terms of international engagement, so we want to be promoting and fostering relations with them, not erecting barriers," she told The Guardian.

Any fall in foreign applicants will impact not only universities but also on the economy and international relations, she warned.

"They bring connections that reap dividends in financial and cultural and social terms way into the future," she said.

"We are concerned about the language and the atmosphere being created, not least because it plays very, very badly internationally.

"Whatever the intentions of the politicians are ... every time these sorts of comments are made by the Home Secretary or others it does have a potentially very damaging impact internationally."

In November, Boris Johnson issued a warning over prejudice against foreign students in the UK, saying new visa rules introduced by ministers sent out the "wrong signal".

Following the London Mayor's visit to India, a private Indian university announced its plans to open a campus in London for 15,000 foreign students.

Overseas students are estimated to be worth £8bn a year to the British economy, a figure projected to rise to £16.8bn by 2025, according to a study by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Home Secretary Theresa May last month announced the introduction of face-to-face interviews for 100,000 applicants for student visas a year.

She said the government's success in closing down bogus colleges and cutting student visa numbers by 74,000 (26%) last year as part of a drive to reduce overall net migration but insisted that there was no cap on legitimate students from outside the EU.

Dandridge said politicians need to portray the UK as being open and welcoming to international students without compromising immigration laws.

Mark Harper, the immigration minister, added: "The UK's education system is one of the best in the world but to maintain this reputation it is vital that we tackle the abuse of the student route, while making sure Britain remains open for business."

UK Elections: Business As Usual Triumphs

UK Elections: Business as Usual Triumphs

by Stephen Lendman

May 7 general elections approach. Britain is like America. It's all over before polls open. Monied interests win every time.

Ordinary people lose out more than ever in modern memory. It shows in opinion polls.

Only 16% of voters trust politicians. Why anyone besides well-off Brits do they'll have to explain.

It doesn't matter who wins on Thursday. Torries and New Labour are even in polls. They're like Republicans and Democrats in America - two sides of the same coin, not a dime's worth of difference between them.

Neither major party is expected to win a majority. Expect coalition government with smaller parties to follow. They largely support the same regressive policies.

All politicians lie. Nothing they say can be believed. New Labour leader Ed Miliband maintained the standard saying Britain's "clear choice on Thursday (is) between a Labour government that will put working people first or a Tory government that will only ever work for the privileged few."

Britain's "clear choice" is none at all. Monied interests run things. Bankers top the pecking order.

Politicians come and go. One major party or the other wins. Things stay the same.

Neoliberal harshness, financialization, weak unions, offshoring manufacturing, privatizing state enterprises, deregulation, and disappearing social justice characterize Britain's economy.

London's Guardian warned of a "hit list of (more) welfare cuts" coming.

Voltaire once explained British society saying its people "are like their own beer; froth on top, dregs at bottom, the middle excellent."

Today's froth never had it better. Poor Brits are enduring their hardest times since post-WW II recovery.

Middle class society is fast disappearing - like in America. Britain's weekly Spectator magazine says it's "shrinking and sinking."

"The lifestyle that the average earner had half a century ago -  reasonably sized house, dependable healthcare, a decent education for the children and a reliable pension - is becoming the preserve of the rich."

"Middle-class pensioners look on amazed at how their children, now into adulthood, seem to have a far harder time."

Rich elites run things more than ever. They doubled their wealth since 2009. The average worker earns less when adjusted for inflation and wage cuts.

Former Bank of England governor Mervyn King said middle class society is enduring the longest squeeze in living memory. Rich folks never had it better.

London is unaffordable to live in. House prices average over $750,000. The average wage is less than $50,000.

In January, thousands participated in a March for Homes rally. They demanded solutions to unaffordable housing prices - worsening as they escalate.

They carried banners saying "People before profit." Build council homes (reasonably priced ones for working class people)." "Take the wealth of the 1%."

Rents surged an average 13% annually since 2010. So have repossessions and evictions. Britain increasingly is unfit to live in - just like America.

New Labour claiming "Britain can be better" rings hollow for millions enduring increasing hardships.

They're "all the same," growing numbers of voters say about a system increasingly ignoring their needs.

They promise one thing. They do another. Serving monied interests and allying with Washington's war machine matter most.

Respect Party Bradford West MP George Galloway is running for reelection. He calls himself "your traditional, much-loved black cab."

"You don't know what you've got until it's gone. There are not a lot of us black cabs around any more."

His constituency is one of Britain's poorest. It's struggling to reinvent itself. Despite his best  best efforts, he's up against a corrupted, uncaring system.

He's one of 650 House of Commons members. "Recovery, what recovery," he asks?

"We keep hearing that the economic recovery is better in Britain than in any other European country."

"Well it may be in London and the Home Counties, but it certainly isn't here" and most other places in Britain.

Millions are suffering. Food banks are proliferating, Galloway explained. "Can you imagine what the country will look like by 2020 if these barbarians are returned" to power, he stressed.

"We need investment in jobs and infrastructure…But it won't come under the Tories or this miserable local Labour administration." Or New Labour if it bests the Torries nationwide.

Social justice is fast disappearing. Force-fed austerity is official UK policy.

So is growing wealth inequality. It's risen four times faster since 2008 compared to the seven preceding years.

It bears repeating. Britain is like America - governed of, by and for its privileged elites alone.

It's corrupt, fundamentally unfair and ruthlessly anti-democratic. Young people have no futures.

An entire generation is lost. Social welfare cuts hits Britain's most disadvantaged hardest.

Inequality is booming. Politicians able to make a difference don't care. Increasing amounts of public wealth in private hands is a slippery slope to third world status.

Margaret Thatcher escalated inequality. She oversaw one of the greatest ever transfers of wealth to British society's most well-off.

David Cameron is worse. New Labour's Ed Miliband is no better. Robbing poor Peter to pay rich Paul is official bipartisan policy.

It's endorsed by Liberal Democrats, Britain's third ranked party. It's neither liberal nor democratic. It's hard right like the rest.

On Thursday, voting options are death by hanging or firing squad. Ballot choices exclude government serving everyone equitably.

Media Scoundrels on Sham Ukrainian Elections

Media Scoundrels on Sham Ukrainian Elections

by Stephen Lendman

Their comments didn't surprise. They supported sham Ukrainian elections. Throughout the run-up, voting and aftermath.

They endorse sham US ones. They pretend fantasy democracy is real. They do it every time. Unapologetically. With a straight face.

The New York Times headlined "Election of President Seen as Beginning to Repairing Ukraine," saying:

Some Ukrainians called Sunday's election "the triumphant culmination of six months of protests and at times violent upheaval."

The Times claimed many people believe Ukraine is different than earlier. With "systemic government reforms." With "more on the way."

Citing unnamed "analysts" claiming unidentified "civic activists, combined with pressure from… International Monetary Fund demand(s) in exchange for…emergency financing…set Ukraine on a course…past…post-Soviet…corruption and mismanagement."

Unnamed "experts" were cited. "(I)mportant changes" were made, they claimed. Raising gas prices, The Times noted. It called it a step "experts" urged for years.

Fact: Most Ukrainians are impoverished.

Fact: Many deeply.

Fact: Millions more heading for destitution.

Fact: IMF loan sharks demand bankers get paid first.

Fact: Then other major investors.

Fact: Debt service matters most.

Fact: Force-fed austerity is mandated.

Fact: When Ukrainians need help most of all.

Fact: Residual amounts pay depleted bureaucrat ranks.

Fact: Those not sacked get poverty or sub-poverty wages.

Fact: Without benefits, hugely reduced ones, or too few to matter.

Fact: With virtually nothing for ordinary Ukrainians longterm.

Fact: Kiev putschists increased gas prices 50% starting May 1.

Fact: Ukraine's national oil and gas company Naftogaz hiked them 40% more beginning July 1.

Fact: It promised further stiff increases ahead.

Fact: At the same time, Ukraine's central bank began limiting currency interventions.

Fact: Since January 1, Ukraine's hryvnia currency lost over one-fourth of its dollar value.

Fact: It may end up worthless.

Fact: Expect more deterioration ahead.

Fact: Pensioner income was halved.

Fact: It went from $160 to $80 dollars monthly.

Fact: Other social benefit cuts were made.

Fact: Across-the-board.

Fact: More coming.

Fact: Ordinary Ukrainians are hit hardest.

Fact: Kommersant-Ukraine (K-U) obtained an internal document.

Fact: "The Finance Ministry has prepared a plan for optimizing budget expenditures, which implies budget sequestration is to be in force before the end of March," said K-U.

Fact: "For this purpose, in particular, it has been proposed to reduce capital costs, eliminate tax schemes and preferences and to cut social benefits, for example, 50 percent of pensions to working pensioners."

Fact: At the same time, plans are to plunder Ukraine.

Fact: Hollow out its economy.

Fact: Sell its state enterprises at fire sale prices.

Fact: Sack growing thousands of its workers.

Fact: Eliminate its trade unions altogether.

Fact: Crack down hard on nonbelievers.

Fact: A race to the bottom defines official policy.

Fact: Hunger and homelessness are increasing.

Fact: So is human misery.

Fact: Popular needs don't matter.

Fact: Fascist regimes operate this way.

Fact: Don't expect Times correspondents, contributors or editors to explain.

Fact: Editorial policy defends the indefensible.

Washington Post editors bash Putin irresponsibly. "Will the West move the goalposts again for" him they asked?

Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel "warned that disruption of Ukraine's election by Russia would trigger a tough new round of sanctions by the West."

They expanded "what (they) meant by 'disruption…' " They said it's "not just whether "Moscow's agents tried to stop voting, but whether the government of Vladimir Putin tried to prevent such interference."

Voting included "substantial disruption(s)." In "two (Eastern) provinces…"

"(W)here Moscow's agents tried to stop voting," they claimed.

Where Vladimir Putin did nothing "to prevent such interference," they said.

"(N)o voting (was) possible" in most Donetsk and Lugansk districts.

"Ukrainian security forces (were) ambushed." Kiev "election commissions (were) abducted and threatened."

"There's little question among Ukrainian government officials and Western diplomats in Kiev that Russia is backing the separatists and has done nothing to stop their interference."

"Yet US and German officials…again (moved) the goalposts." They "justif(ied) retreat by (saying voting) will proceed smoothly in the rest of the country."

Noting Putin "hinted he would accept the results. The bottom line is that Mr. Putin could come out of the election having kept alive the separatist movement…"

"(W)ithout suffering economic consequences." Giving "Moscow de facto suzerainty over the eastern provinces…"

"(A) power to block any move by Ukraine toward the West."

WaPo called it "lapse of Western resolve."

Fact: It bears repeating.

Fact: Ukraine's sham electoral process was farcical.

Fact: It had no legitimacy whatever.

Fact: So-called Eastern Ukrainian "substantial disruption(s)" reflect freedom fighting in action.

Fact: For fundamental human and civil rights everyone deserves.

Fact: For what warrants universal support.

Fact: So-called "Moscow agents" don't exist.

Fact: Ukrainian freedom fighters acted on their own volition.

Fact: No evidence suggested otherwise.

Fact: None whatever.

Fact: They're not separatists.

Fact: They're not militants.

Fact: They're ordinary people wanting to live free.

Fact: Most Donetsk and Lugansk residents reject Kiev putschists.

Fact: They refused to vote.

Fact: Ballot choices excluded democratic ones.

Fact: Fascists or sympathizers alone competed.

Fact: Putin "hinted" nothing.

Fact: He was clear and unequivocal.

Fact: "We understand that the people of Ukraine want their country to emerge from this crisis," he said.

Fact: "We will treat their choice with respect."

Fact: "We are today working with those people who control the government, and after the election we will of course work with the newly elected authorities."

Fact: He urged peaceful conflict resolution.

Fact: He stressed "constructive dialogue."

Fact: He made no demands or ultimatums.

Fact: He urged mutual respect.

Fact: He supports unity.

Fact: He opposes separatism.

Fact: He has no Ukrainian territorial ambitions.

Fact: Or anywhere else.

Fact: Claims about him wanting Russia's empire restored don't wash.

Fact: He called making them "a tool in the (anti-Russian) information war."

Fact: "People are trying to label us as such, that we're trying to restore the empire, the Soviet Union, to bring everybody under our influence. But this is totally inaccurate," he said.

Fact: Ukrainian security forces wage war without mercy.

Fact: On ordinary Donestsk and Lugansk civilians.

Fact: Notions of heavily armed troops being "ambushed" are sheer nonsense.

Fact: Or claims about "threaten(ing)" and "abduct(ing)" them.

Fact: Or saying Putin backs separatists and does nothing to stop them.

Fact: Or suggesting he's in any way involved.

Fact: So-called goalpost retreat claims reflect WaPo editors neocon credentials.

Fact: They're militantly hardline.

Fact: They support war.

Fact: They deplore peace.

Fact: They reject diplomatic conflict resolutions.

Fact: They prefer belligerent ones.

The Wall Street Journal headlined "Ukraine Seeks to Regain Stability as Voters Head to the Polls."

"In Donetsk, hundreds of heavily armed pro-Russia rebels paraded in front of a crowd of about 2,000 to underscore the power they hold there," it said.

"The rebel insurgency has left dozens of people dead and transformed much of the country's southeast into a conflict zone."

Fact: Journal comments were milder than their usual militancy.

Fact: Perhaps a Monday editorial follow-up will talk tough. Perhaps it'll make up for what its election day report lacked.

Fact: So-called "heavily armed pro-Russia rebels" use hand-held light ones.

Fact: They're no match against Ukrainian tanks, APCs, artillery, mortars, attack helicopters and fixed wing warplanes.

Fact: They reject fascist rule.

Fact: Most prefer Ukrainian unity.

Fact: They want local autonomy.

Fact: They want Ukraine federalized.

Fact: They want the right to elect their own officials.

Fact: They reject having them appointed.

Fact: Doing so denies their democratic rights.

Fact: Washington bears full responsibility.

Fact: It turned their regions into conflict zones.

Fact: It elevated illegitimate fascist putschists to power.

Fact: They launched war without mercy.

Fact: They did so against freedom-fighting Ukrainians.

Fact: They acted at Obama's behest.

Fact: Don't expect Journal correspondents, contributors or editors to explain.

Fact: They in lockstep with longstanding US policy.

Fact: Imperial lawlessness reflects it.

Fact: Ukraine is in the eye of the storm.

Fact: It's Obama's latest imperial trophy.

Fact: Holding it is another matter entirely.

Fact: Ukrainian freedom fighters may have final say.

Fact: Perhaps if they stay the course.

Fact: If their will to win remains indomitable.

Fact: If growing thousands more Ukrainians join them.

Fact: If freedom fighting protests spread nationwide.

Fact: If they're sustained.

Fact: Organized people can beat organized money.

Fact: Perhaps Ukrainian freedom fighters will become role models.

Fact: Perhaps for activists everywhere.

Fact: Perhaps they'll inspire resistance too strong to beat.

Fact: Perhaps real change is possible.

It bears repeating. The fullness of time will tell.

Putin on Ukraine’s Sham Election

Putin on Ukraine's Sham Election

by Stephen Lendman

He's a master chess player. He's a world-class geopolitical leader.

He shames his Western counterparts. He makes them look amateurish by comparison.

He thanked St. Peterburg Economic Forum participants. He thanked everyone attending.

"We established good rapport with our partners in all areas of production, from all sectors of the economy," he said.

"(W)e are very pleased with how cooperation with our partners" went, he added.

I'm impressed with "this year's attendance," he said. Elements involved included "80% of the global information flow," he explained.

Their influence on "global and national news cannot be overstated." He requested they disseminate their message widely.

Spread it worldwide, he urged. Build good relations with Russia. Do it because it matters.

Putin addressed Sunday's Ukrainian election. "This is what I think," he said. Putschist power may be strengthened.

Ukraine's new president may either be transitional, hardline or despotic.

Kiev junta power and "principal (presidential) candidates are, after all, different people…(It) may not be in the interests of those (in charge) today (to have a legitimate) newly elected president."

"I wouldn't like to think that it's the start of a new cold war," he said. "No one needs it, and I don't think it's going to happen."

"It would have been more logical and more fundamental in my opinion to hold a referendum at first, to adopt the constitution and then to hold the elections basing on the new legislature."

"A new constitution may be adopted" post-election. "If this is how it turns out to be, then the new president could become intermediary."

"Or on the contrary, he would be accumulating maximum of authoritative powers. Both scenarios will be tied to the escalation of the domestic political fight" for control.

Either way, Russia urges "constructive dialogue." Excluding demands or ultimatums. Based on mutual respect. Without ulterior motives.

Russia operates in good faith, Putin stressed. It expects likewise treatment in return. Nothing less is acceptable. It wants trustworthy partners.

It respects sovereignty of all nations. It expects no less in return. It deplores war, violence and instability. It champions peaceful conflict resolutions.

Its actions speak louder than words. It reflects geopolitical honesty. It's polar opposite Western policies. It's struggling to prevail.

Saturday was a Kiev-ordered "Day of Silence." Sunday presidential and mayoral elections followed.

In seven regional areas - Kiev, Nikolaev, Odessa, Sumy, Kherson, Cherkassy and Chernovtsy.

Saturday campaigning was prohibited. Sunday voting continued from 8AM to 8PM. It didn't matter either way.

Twenty-one aspirants competed for president. If no one wins a majority, second round voting follows. Matching two leading candidates.

Most likely in early June. Initial results should be published by around June 4. If needed, round two will follow soon as possible. In days or weeks at most.

It doesn't matter. Final results are virtually preordained. They're predetermined. Petro Proroshenko is anointed to win.

Expect electoral rubber-stamping to follow. So-called polls show his support at from around 34 - 38 - to as much as 44%.

He's highest in Western Ukraine. Less in Eastern. Least in Southeastern.

Yulia Tymshenko ranks second. She's way behind. At 5.9 - 8.4% overall. She has no chance whatever. Nor do other candidates scoring less.

They're all putschist-approved. They're regime supporters. They're hardline fascists. Not a democrat among them.

None approved. None whatever among ballot choices. Ukrainians have none at all. Key is Russia's response.

It rejects Kiev putschists. It's hard imagining support for what's coming. Moscow wants free, fair, open, democratic elections.

Sham ones followed. Will Moscow recognize what it rejects? Don't bet on Putin supporting what demands denunciation.

His policy may differ from post-electoral rhetoric. For sure he won't accept what harms Russian interests. Especially hostile Western policies.

Post-electoral Ukrainian governance will determine Russian policy. Mostly whether attacking Eastern freedom fighters ceases.

Anything less is unacceptable. Elections during regime aggression have no legitimacy whatever. Nor do putschist-controlled ones.

Lugansk and Donetsk regions reject them. It's unclear how most Ukrainians feel. How many will vote?

How many know what's at stake? How many understand democratic choices don't exist?

How many realize they've been had? How many will go along or opt out? Will electoral manipulation obscure vote totals and turnout?

Will anything officially reported be legitimate? Will Big Lies substitute? Will independently disseminated information expose them?

On May 24, Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics united. A Novorossiya (New Russia) state was formed.

Donetsk (DPR) leader Denis Pushilin announced it, saying:

"We’ve signed a memorandum on the republics' union. We've named the united regions as the union of people's republic."

They include Donetsk, Lugansk, Odessa, Nikolaev, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Kharkov, and Kherson regions.

Details are being finalized. Commissions are preparing political, economic and social policies.

They'll be completed in due course. Donbass Governor Pavel Gubarev confirmed Novorossiya's formation.

"The document was signed by DPR premier Alexander Borodai and head of the Lugansk People's Republic Alexei Karyakin," he said.

A popular manifesto was adopted. It vows self-determination. It includes protection from neo-Nazi terrorism.

It stresses Popular Front resistance. It includes "everybody (able and) ready to resist self-appointed" Kiev putschists.

Against their illegitimacy. Against their aggressive war without mercy. Against their cold-blooded murder.

Against oligarch power. Against complicit Western interests. Against fascists wanting freedom destroyed.

Against their hardline rule. Against war on democracy. Against attempts to destroy fundamental human and civil rights. Against what freedom fighters support.

"We do not recognize the president and parliament of Ukraine," DPR and LPR leaders said.

"The Donetsk and Lugansk republics are independent states."

"We will recognize a government of a newly-elected president if (Kiev) recognize(s) the republics' independence."

It "should immediately withdraw troops from our republics…(It) should stop (all) military actions."

It should do so straightaway. It should recognize regional self-rule. Their sovereign self-determination, Gubarev stressed.

It shows no signs of doing so. War without mercy continues. Expect worse post-election.

Expect all-out war. Hot and propaganda ones. What follows remains to be seen.

Freedom-fighting struggles aren't resolved quickly. They continue. Perhaps longterm.

Perhaps after lots more bloodshed. It's unclear how things will end.

Whatever side is more committed may prevail. Battles are usually decided this way.

Eastern Ukrainians show no signs of quitting. Their resolve is their best hope. It's encouraging. It's inspiring. It's motivating others to get involved.

Perhaps growing thousands will do so. Perhaps an eventual majority. Perhaps including Western Ukrainians.

Perhaps huge numbers nationwide. Perhaps Obama's latest imperial trophy isn't secure. Perhaps it'll slip-slide away.

Perhaps he'll lose another war. He hasn't won one yet. Nor did Bush. Or Clinton. Or Bush I.

Or their post-WW II predecessors. Despite millions of corpses revealing their barbarity.

Displaying hubris and arrogance. Making more enemies than friends.

Prohibiting democracy at home and abroad. Heading America for full-blown tyranny and ruin.

Waging war on humanity. Perhaps destroying it altogether.

Fascist regimes operate this way. America is by far the worst in world history.

Others pale in comparison. It threatens humanity's survival. It hangs by a thread.

Wall Street Journal Supports Putschist Ukrainian Oligarch Rule

Wall Street Journal Supports Putschist Ukrainian Oligarch Rule

by Stephen Lendman

Sham elections approach. They'll be held Sunday, May 25. They're illegitimate. They have no legal standing.

Coup-appointed putschists are running them. Washington supports what demands rejection. So does the Wall Street Journal.

It's in lockstep with putschist rule. Murdoch's world reflects presstitute power.

It features demagoguery, propaganda, pseudo-journalism, corporate power, and warmongering. It supports wrong over right.

It turns truth on its head. It lacks ethical and moral standards. Its poisonous influence debauches whatever it touches. It endorses Wall Street grand theft.

It favors hard right billionaire bandits running Ukraine. On May 22, it headlined "A Pragmatic Favorite to Lead a Shaky Ukraine," saying:

Candidates reflect "few policy differences." Their "backgrounds are similar…The only issue in the Ukrainian presidential vote on Sunday is the country's survival."

"The election takes place 'at a time of war.' " Russia "occup(ies) Crimea…Slow to confront Moscow, Western leaders are reluctant to call what's going on by its proper name."

Fact: Putschist-approved candidates alone are competing.

Fact: Ballot choices exclude democratic one.

Fact: So-called "pragmatic favorite" Petro Poroshenko is a billionaire oligarch crook.

Fact: He made money the old-fashioned way.

Fact: He stole it.

Fact: "We can do business with anyone," he says, as long as he gets his share.

Fact: He supported Maidan putschists.

Fact: He did so straightaway.

Fact: He ignored their violence.

Fact: Ukrainian oligarchs notoriously plunder the country for profits.

Fact: They exploit ordinary Ukrainians.

Fact: They deplore responsible law and order.

Fact: Poroshenko's empire includes food, automotive and media interests.

Fact: Oligarch power began after Soviet Russia's dissolution.

Fact: It hardened during Leonid Kuchma's presidency (July 1994 - January 2005).

Fact: He's called oligarch power's founding father.

Fact: One hand feeds the other.

Fact: Mutual dependence reflects official policy.

Fact: Ukrainian government officials conspire with oligarch crooks.

Fact: They facilitate massive corruption.

Fact: Each side benefits hugely.

Fact: They do so with underworld elements.

Fact: All Ukrainian presidents operate this.

Fact: Some more than others.

Fact: Differences are in degree, not kind.

Fact: Putschists running things are worst of all.

Fact: Expect greater than ever grand theft.

Fact: Expect Ukraine more than ever plundered.

Fact: Expect Western crooks stealing plenty.

Fact: Expect Ukraine turned into a cash cow for looting.

Fact: Expect the entire country sucked dry.

Fact: Expect the economy hollowed out for profit.

Fact: Expect greater than ever mass impoverishment.

Fact: Expect sham elections rubber-stamping things.

Fact: Expect hardened Ukrainian fascism.

Fact: Expect it in Europe's epicenter.

Fact: Expect protracted Great Depression conditions.

Fact: Expect total Western support.

Poroshenko is a "runaway" Sunday favorite, said the Journal. At issue only is whether he'll need one or two rounds to become president.

He's "a rebuke to the Kremlin propaganda machine," said the Journal.

Fact: Journal editors bash Russia irresponsibly.

Fact: Misinformation rubbish substitutes for credible journalism.

In the 1980s, Poroshenko studied with former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili.

They maintain contact. One fascist thug supports another. In the 1990s, Poroshenko amassed a fortune.

He "dabbled in politics" at the same time, said the Journal. Sitting in parliament assured immunity from prosecution.

He held various ministerial jobs. "His most enduring alliance has been with Ukraine's pro-Western camp," said the Journal.

He supported 2004 Orange Revolution conspirators. He operates politically and in business extrajudicially.

He backed Maidan putschists. He helped bankroll them.

His "visit to Crimea at the start of the Russian invasion in February earned him points for bravery," said the Journal.

Fact: Crimeans acted on their own volition.

Fact: They did so near unanimously.

Fact: They voted 96.77% for unification with Russia.

Fact: They did so with historic turnout. At 83%, it was unprecedented.

Fact: Russia had no involvement whatever.

Fact: Claiming otherwise turns truth on its head.

Fact: Longstanding Journal editorial policy reflect lies, damn lies, Big Lies, and more of them.

According to the Journal, Poroshenko promises to build, not destroy. He ludicrously vowed "zero" corruption tolerance.

He's up to his ears in it. He amassed his fortune this way. He plans grabbing much more.

"We live in a different Ukraine," he claimed. He omitted explaining in what way.

He was silent about fascist putschist power. His connection to it. His pillaging plans as president.

"History has given us a unique chance," he said. He intends taking full advantage.

He'll enforce police state ruthlessness. He'll continue waging aggressive war.

He'll keep killing his own people. He'll blame victims for his crimes. He'll get full Western support.

According to the Journal, "Putin is playing spoiler. If not for Russian intervention Ukraine's chances of achieving that banal European dream of normalcy had looked better than even."

"Its media, civic and student groups and broader society are mature and vigilant. This is no post-revolutionary Egypt."

Fact: Egyptian fascism is horrendous.

Fact: Democracy is fantasy.

Fact: US-supported putschists run things.

Fact: Anointed president-to-be General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Chile's Pinochet.

Fact: State terror is official policy.

Fact: Ukraine is worse.

Fact: It's much worse.

Fact: Conditions are incendiary.

Fact: At risk is civil war.

Fact: It risks spilling cross-borders.

Fact: It risks potential East/West confrontation.

Fact: It risks possible global war.

"Ukrainians have done their part," said the Journal. It stopped short of explaining horrendous horrors Ukrainian face post-election.

Worse than post-February coup. It remains to be seen how they'll react. They'll learn soon enough they were had.

They may join their Eastern Ukrainian freedom fighters. National rebellion may follow. The fullness of time will tell.

Ukraine’s Fascist Roots

Ukraine's Fascist Roots

by Stephen Lendman

US-installed putschists are fascist extremists. Elevating them to power should scare everyone.

Ukraine is the epicenter of European fascist reemergence. It's a freedom-destroying cancer.

It threatens world peace. It risks global conflict. It doesn't surprise. Its roots are deep.

Washington offers full support. It's longstanding. It dates from 1945. Svoboda and Right Sector parties are modern-day Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) heirs.

Its Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) leaders were Nazi collaborators. They fought with Hitler's Waffen SS Galician Division.

Their forces massacred hundreds of thousands. Their hero was Stepan Bandera. He headed OUN-B. It terrorized Ukrainian and Polish Jews.

His legacy thrives in Ukraine today. His heirs openly display his OUN-B red and black flag. They enjoy full US support.

Svoboda's slogan is "Ukraine for Ukrainians." Bandera said the same thing. He wanted Ukraine made ethnically pure. Mass extermination followed.

Svoboda earlier called itself Socialist-Nationalists. It bears erie resemblance to Hitler's National Socialism. It reflects fascism writ large.

Svoboda openly calls for "creat(ing) a truly Ukrainian Ukraine in the cities of the East and South."

"We will need to cancel parliamentarism, ban all political parties, nationalise the entire industry, all media, prohibit the importation of any literature to Ukraine from Russia."

"Completely replace the leaders of the civil service, education management, military (especially in the East)."

"Physically liquidate all Russian-speaking intellectuals and all Ukrainophobes (fast, without a trial shot. Registering Ukrainophobes can be done here by any member of Svoboda)."

"Execute all members of the anti-Ukrainian political parties."

Svoboda straightaway abolished Russian-speaker minority rights. It targets Jews, ethnic Russians and opposition elements.

Its manifesto calls for "carry(ing) out a broad public discussion about the meaning of Ukrainian pluralism for the future of Europe, Russia and the world."

Its aim is undermining Russian Eurasian influence. It wants fundamental freedoms destroyed. It wants hardline rule replacing it.

Democracy is strictly verboten. Hooliganism is longstanding  strategy. Unrestrained violence reflects it. Opposition elements are targeted for elimination.

Post-WW II, Washington began cooperating with Ukrainian fascists. OUN-B leader Mykola Lebed (1909 - 1998) openly collaborated with Nazis.

He was responsible for massive Volhynia and Eastern Galicia Polish ethnic cleansing.

In 1949, he emigrated to America. He did so with CIA/State Department help.

He lived in New York. His CIA-funded Prolog Research Corporation spied on Soviet Russia.

In his book titled "The OUN, the UPA and the Holocaust: A Study in the Manufacturing of Historical Myths," Per Rudling said:

"During the early Cold War, extreme nationalism and fascism were retooled and employed by Western intelligence services in the struggle against the USSR."

"One CIA analyst argued that 'some form of nationalist feeling continues to exist (in Ukraine)…"

"There is an obligation to support it as a cold war weapon."

According to Rudling, CIA and State Department officials collaborated with OUN members.

They sponsored them. They brought them to America. They shielded them from war crimes prosecutions.

They helped them gain "positions of of influence and authority, assisting their creation of semi-academic institutions and/or academic positions at established universities," said Rudling.

They whitewashed their WW II crimes. They transformed them into Ukrainian heroes.

During Viktor Yushchenko's illegitimate Orange Revolution presidency, institutes of memory management and myth-making were established.

They buried information about OUN/UPA atrocities.

According to Rudling, "(u)nlike many other former Soviet republics, the Ukrainian government did not need to develop new national myths from scratch, but imported ready concepts developed in the Ukrainian diaspora."

Washington calls OUN/UPA and its modern-day heirs "nationalists." It buries their fascist roots. It ignores their criminal past.

Rudling was clear and unequivocal saying:

"The OUN shared the fascist attributes of antiliberalism, anticonservatism, and anticommunism, an armed party, totalitarianism, anti-Semitism, Führerprinzip, and the adoption of fascist greetings."

"Its leaders eagerly emphasized to Hitler and Ribbentrop that they shared the Nazi Weltanschauung and a commitment to a fascist New Europe."

Racial/ethnic purity was a core ideological element. It remains so today. Washington's alliance with hard right extremist groups is longstanding.

Political analyst Caleb Maupin said decades before European fascism, Ku Klux Klan elements were state-sponsored in former slave-holding states.

It wasn't the only fascist organization Washington embraced, said Maupin. Post-WW I, American Legion leaders were openly fascist.

So were prominent US industrialists like Henry Ford. Fascism thrives in today's America. It reflects its dark side.

It emerged post-WW I. At the time, Western civilization was called decadent and destructive. It was in decline, critics said.

In his book titled, "The Decline of the West," Oswald Spengler said "liberalism, democracy, socialism (and) free-masonry" weakened it. Fascism alone could save it, he claimed.

In his essay titled, "Fascism: Doctrine and Institutions," Mussolini said, "Fascism denies, in democracy, the absurd conventional untruth of political equality dressed out in the garb of collective responsibility."

He called it Marxism's "complete opposite." In class struggle for social progress and justice, he added.

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of State and corporate power," he stressed.

His definition applies now. Corporatism's alliance with political Washington reflects his ideology. It built for decades.

It's deeply entrenched. It reflects Washington's bipartisan agenda. Its criminal class runs things.

Huey Long once said fascism will arrive "wrapped in an American flag." In his book titled, "Friendly Fascism," Bertram Gross called Ronald Reagan its prototype ruler.

He described a slow, powerful "drift toward greater concentration of power and wealth in a repressive Big Business-Big Government."

It reflects a Big Brother alliance. It leads "toward a new and subtly manipulative form of corporatist serfdom." Its friendly face conceals its dark side.

In the 1930s, George Seldes saw it coming. He worried about New Deal policies eroding.

In his 1934 book titled, "Iron, Blood and Profits," he discussed a "world-wide munitions racket."

He cited WW I militarists. He named weapons makers in Europe and America.

He called them "merchants of death." They promote "imperialism (and) colonization - by means of war."

"(T)he healthfulness of the business depends on slaughter. The more wars," the more profits.

His 1943 book titled "Facts and Fascism" explained "Fascism on the Home Front" in Part One. It's called "The Big Money and the Big Profits in Fascism."

In Parts Two and Three, he discussed "Native Fascist Forces" in industry and his day's media. It was a shadow of today's propaganda machine.

Print and radio's early days alone existed. Television was years away.

In his 1935 novel titled, "It Can't Happen Here," Sinclair Lewis saw fascism coming in hard times.

It'll be led by a charismatic leader, he said. A self-styled reformer/populist champion. A con man exploiting human misery.

He recounted Merzelium "Buzz" Windrip's rise to power. His promise to restore prosperity equitably was duplicitous. His alliance with corporatist interests and religious ideologues remained hidden.

He capitalized on hard times. He instituted militarism. He established unconstitutional governance.

He convened military tribunals. He did so for civilians and nonbelievers. He called them traitors.

He solidified hardline rule. He institutionalized tyranny. He put political enemies in concentration camps.

He created Minute Men paramilitaries. They terrorized opposition elements.

He destroyed democracy. He abolished constitutional freedoms. He declared martial law.

He usurped dictatorial powers. He circumvented Congress. He made himself supreme ruler.

Lewis said it can happen here. Today it's institutionalized. It rules America.

It runs Ukraine. Svoboda and Right Sector parties have enormous power.

Their members hold key ministerial positions. Previous articles discussed Obama's new friends. They include a rogue's gallery of societal misfits.

They're militant fascists. They're thugs. They're criminals.

They're illegitimate putschists. They're xenophobic, hate-mongering, ultranationalist anti-Semites.

Combined they represent mob rule. They make mafia bosses look saintly by comparison.

For the first time since WW II, overt fascists have real power in Europe. They hold major government posts.

In December 2012, European parliamentarians expressed concern about "rising nationalistic sentiment in Ukraine."

They called Svoboda members "racist, anti-Semitic and xenophobic." They're polar opposite "EU's fundamental values," the added.

They "appeal(ed) to pro-democratic parties in (Ukraine's legislature) not to associate with, endorse, or form coalitions with" these elements.

That was then. This is now. EU officials openly support what they condemned. They do so unapologetically.

They march in lockstep with Washington hardliners. They mock democratic values they claim to support.

Olexander Turchynov serves as illegitimate president/parliament speaker. He's a political opportunist.

He's Ukrainian armed forces commander-in-chief. He's Batkivshchyna/All-Ukrainian Union/Fatherland party deputy chairman.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk serves as Ukraine's illegitimate prime minister. He's super-rich.

He's a former central banker/economy/foreign minister/ parliament (Verkhovna Rada) speaker.

He's a Batkivshchya/All-Ukrainian Union (Fatherland) leader. He sold out for greater wealth and power.

He serves Washington, EU interests and Western bankers. Paying them comes first. Ukrainians bear the burden.

Exploiting them irresponsibly is official policy. So is plundering Ukraine for profit. Selling its state enterprises at fire sale prices.

Strip-mining its state resources. Hollowing out its economy. Wrecking it entirely.

Creating a protracted Greek-style Depression. Making ordinary people suffer most. Cracking down hard on nonbelievers.

Andriy Parubiy co-founded the ultranationalist neo-Nazi Social National party. It's now called Svoboda. He did so with Oleh Tyahnybok.

Right Sector hard right neo-Nazi hate-mongering anti-Semite Dmytro Yarosh is his deputy. He openly boasts about "...fighting Jews and Russians till I die."

He calls Russia Ukraine's "eternal enemy." He said war between both countries is inevitable.

Right Sector neo-Nazis are the worst of Ukrainian extremists. On May 2, they massacred 300 Odessan civilians in cold blood.

They did so inside Odessa's Trade Union House building. They hunted down survivors and murdered them.

They're gun-toting, radicalized terrorists. Imagine them and likeminded scoundrels in charge of Ukraine's government.

Imagine Obama embracing them. They're cold-blooded killers. State terrorism defines their agenda. Elements opposing them are targeted for elimination.

Oleh Tyahnybok heads Svoboda. He's a force to be reckoned with. He reflects fascism writ large. He openly claims determination to crush "Russkie-Yid mafia" elements Ukraine.

Parubiy serves as Kiev's Secretary of National Security and Defense Council. He oversees Ukraine's Defense Ministry and armed forces.

He directed months earlier Right Sector Maidan violence. Other Svoboda/Right Sector officials hold influential ministerial posts.

Obama's new friends are fascist extremists. Their agenda makes peace activists cringe. They threaten civil war. Regional conflict could follow. They risk spreading it globally.

Yatsenyuk vowed never to give up "a centimeter" of Ukraine to Russia. "This is our land," he said. "Our fathers and grandfathers have spilled their blood for this land."

"And we won't budge a single centimeter from (it). Let Russia and its president know this."

Washington pledged full support. Obama pledged financial aid. Doing so violates US law. It doesn't matter.

Parubiy wants all he can get. He wants "immediate US military aid," he said. On May 15, he got feature Wall Street Journal op-ed space requesting it.

He lied claiming "Putin's goal is to destroy the independent Ukrainian state…"

"(B)ecause it had the courage to choose a better future with Europe," he said.

He called UN Charter recognized self-determination "illegal." He said so regarding Crimea's legitimate reunification with Russia.

He turned truth on its head claiming Putin "stirr(ed) up separatist movements in multiple regions of Ukraine in the hope of annexing even more Ukrainian territory."

Ukraine "can't do everything on its own," he said. It's "a peaceful nation," he claimed.

It's waging war without mercy on its own people. Burying truth is longstanding fascist policy.

Parubiy want US military aid. He wants weapons, "modern equipment," and training. He wants all he can get. He enjoys Journal editorial support.

He and likeminded ideologues turned Ukraine into a fascist police state. It's an eastern cauldron of violence.

Paribiy deplores peace. He wants conflict escalated. He ludicrously claims Western military aid can "regain stability."

Enhancing Ukrainian might can "withstand Russia('s) (nonexistent) aggression." He wants powerful weapons supplied.

He wants "tools to defend our nation." He wants them despite no existing threat. He wants them for lawless aggression.

He wants eastern opposition elements crushed. He wants them slaughtered in cold blood.

He wants Washington partnering with his crimes. He risks global conflict.

He and likeminded ideologues may start WW III. Stopping them matters most.

Ukraine on the Brink

Ukraine on the Brink

by Stephen Lendman

Obama declared war on Ukraine. He dispatched CIA chief John Brennan to Kiev. He arrived with administration instructions.

Obama's proxy putschist stooges were unleashed to wage war on Eastern Ukrainian freedom fighters. The battle for Ukraine's soul escalated.

The country is "on the verge of civil war," said Putin. Prime Minister  Medvedev said the same thing. Putschists launched violence.

"The illegal rulers are trying to restore the order they cynically trampled on when they participated in an armed uprising," Medvedev added.

Their military forces headed east. Tanks, armored vehicles and artillery are on the move. An assault on activist controlled Eastern Ukrainian cities began.

Kramatorsk's airfield was stormed. Gunfire and explosions were heard. Ukrainian warplanes were involved.

Soldiers manning six tanks switched sides. They hoisted Russian flags. A local resident said:

"We found them at a square near the railway station. A group of women surrounded them."

"We started telling them we were peaceful residents who are just fighting for their rights and that there are no terrorists. They won't shoot us."

"The main armored transport vehicle had a Russian flag on it and they left together with our insurgents towards Slavyansk."

"We are deeply concerned over the military operation launched by the Ukrainian special forces with support of the army. There have already been victims," he said.

"Current events demonstrate persistent unwillingness of Kiev's authorities to organize a dialogue with Ukrainian regions, which is necessary for the country," he added.

On Tuesday, Slavyansk was attacked. According to Donbass people's militia head Sergey Tsyplakov:

"Currently there is a major attack on Slavyansk. Armored personnel vehicles are entering the city."

"There are many troops. The men are getting ready to defend" the city. "There is a lot of military machinery here. But the shooting hasn't started yet."

An uneasy calm awaits a likely storm. Activists still maintain control. Hundreds gathered in central Skavyansk.

They're not leaving. They want local autonomy. So do growing thousands across Eastern Ukraine. They're putting their bodies on the line for freedom.

One activist said civil war erupted. So far no major hostilities. Just local flareups. It remains to be seen what's next.

Fascists operate lawlessly. Washington runs things. Putschists are proxy stooges. Claiming they acted with "great caution" is polar opposite truth. So is saying they're "prov(ing) law and order."

Behind the scenes manipulation is longstanding US practice.

Sergei Lavrov condemned using military force against Eastern Ukrainian civilians.

"We will seek tranquility and insist on the respect of Kiev leaders for the opinions and demands of the southeast and Ukrainian citizens who live there, as well as on negotiations aimed to de-escalate the situation rather than escalate it with the involvement of law enforcement authorities, moreover, the army, which is clearly prohibited by Ukrainian law," he said.

Putschists have no legitimacy. Growing numbers of Eastern Ukrainians reject them. East/West divisions threaten civil war.

"(U)nity state (authority) stopped working in Ukraine," Lavrov added.

"Its foundations were shattered by a series of political disasters that were shaking the country for years."

"One of the main reasons of such situation is the absence of a balanced basic law in Ukraine, which adequately takes into account the interests of all ethnic and language groups and ensures the rights and interests of all the citizens of Ukraine."

"It is impossible to consider the situation, when after each Presidential election the Constitution of the country fixing a particular form of government was changed depending on the desire of the victorious political forces, to be normal."

"Therefore, federalization is a way to ensure that each region feels comfortable and secured in his rights, traditions and traditional ways of life."

"All this should be reflected in the reformed Constitution, and the multi-ethnic Ukrainian society should treat it as a reliable foundation of the legal state meant for a long-term perspective."

"I am convinced that it will be difficult for Ukraine to preserve its unity and to solve urgent tasks aimed at overcoming the current severe crisis."

"Of course, no one can dictate a scheme of organizing a state system to the Ukrainian side. But Ukrainians must start a dialogue and ensure its inclusive and comprehensive character."

"The idea is that all regions and political forces of Ukraine, without exceptions, should participate in it on an equal basis and have equal rights in solving essential issues."

Media scoundrels twist truth daily. They disgrace themselves in the process. They're presstitutes. They make street whores look respectable by comparison.

On April 15, The New York Times continued its daily Russia bashing. Gore Vidal once called The Times the "Typhoid Mary of American journalism."

He did so for good reason. It headlined "Russia Is Quick to Bend Truth About Ukraine."

It called above quoted Putin and Medvedev comments "bluster and hyperbole." It lied calling their honest assessment "misinformation, exaggerations, conspiracy theories, overheated rhetoric and, occasionally outright lies…"

It claimed "an extraordinary (Kremlin) propaganda campaign." A "new brazenness," it added.

A "24-hour vortex of alarmist proclamations of Western (sponsored) aggression…"

"Sinister claims of rising fascism and breathless accounts of imminent hostilities by the 'illegal' Ukrainian government in Kiev…"

You can't make this stuff up. It bears repeating what earlier articles stressed. All the news Times editors call fit to print isn't fit to read.

Truth is systematically buried. Lies, damn lies and bigger ones substitute. Times editors and management notoriously support lawless US imperialism.

Their longstanding overall record is deplorable. It's worst of all when America goes to war, plans one or uses proxy stooges. Unquestioning support follows.

A companion April 15 Times article headlined "UN Cites Abuses in Crimea Before Annexation Vote."

A litany of lies followed. A previous article discussed duplicitous human rights misinformation on Ukraine. Not according to The Times.

It reported bald-faced lies as truth. It said Crimea's model democratic voting process was "rigged."

It falsely claimed harassment, journalist abductions and torture occurred. It ignored independent monitors saying Crimea's process was scrupulously open, free and fair.

Not a single irregularity took place. Not a sign of wrongdoing. No crimes were committed before, during or after Crimeans voted. Claims otherwise were false.

Twisting truth for power is longstanding Times policy. It's buried. Readers are systematically lied to. Misinformation is featured.

Washington propaganda is worst of all. On March 5, the State Department published misinformation on Russia. It claimed Putin "fiction."

Russia "spins a false narrative to justify its 'illegal' actions in Ukraine," it said. It wrongfully claimed "Russian aggression in the Ukraine."

A litany of lies followed. More on April 13. The State Department headlined "Russian Fiction the Sequel: 10 More False Claims About Ukraine."

It lied claiming "Russia continues to spin a false and dangerous narrative to justify its illegal actions in Ukraine."

"The Russian propaganda machine continues to promote hate speech and incite violence by creating a false threat in Ukraine that does not exist."

"We would not be seeing the violence and sad events that we've witnessed this weekend without this relentless stream of disinformation and Russian provocateurs fostering unrest in eastern Ukraine.

More lies, damn lies, and bigger ones followed.

(1) "Russia Claims: Russian agents are not active in Ukraine."

No evidence suggests otherwise. Not according to the State Department.

It said Kiev putschists arrested "more than a dozen 'suspected' Russian intelligence agents…"

Innocent victims are targeted. Lies substitute for truth.

(2) "Russia Claims: Pro-Russia demonstrations are comprised exclusively of Ukrainian citizens acting of their own volition…"

Again no corroborating evidence refutes this. "This is not the grassroots Ukrainian civic activism of the EuroMaidan movement," said the State Department.

No "grassroots" activism existed. Washington orchestrated Kiev lawlessness. It manipulated events disruptively.

It funded fascist thugs. It did so to unleash violence. It ousted Ukraine's democratically elected government.

(3) "Russia Claims: Separatist leaders in eastern Ukraine enjoy broad popular support."

The State Department claims a "large majority" of Donetsk region residents reject them.

No evidence suggests it. Growing thousands across Eastern Ukraine reject Kiev putschists. The State Department didn't explain.

(4) "Russia Claims: The situation in eastern Ukraine risks spiraling into civil war."

It's happening. It risks spilling cross-border. It risks a potential East/West confrontation.

Uprisings "would not be happening without Russian disinformation and provocateurs fostering unrest," claims the State Department.

They "would not be happening if a large Russian military force were not massed on the border, destabilizing the situation through their overtly threatening presence."

No Russian disinformation exists. No provocateurs. No Russian forces massed on Ukraine's border. No threatening presence. State Department Big Lies don't wash.

(5) "Russia Claims: Ukrainians in Donetsk rejected the illegitimate authorities in Kyiv and established the independent 'People's Republic of Donetsk.' "

Not according to the State Department. It ignored mass anti-Kiev opposition. It lied claiming a "small number of separatists" are involved.

For every one active on Donetsk streets and elsewhere across Eastern Ukraine, hundreds, perhaps many thousands, more support them.

(6) "Russia Claims: Russia ordered a 'partial drawdown' of troops from the Ukrainian border."

"No evidence" suggests it, said the State Department. Russian forces are involved in nonthreatening military exercises.

Western monitors observed them. They've had direct contact with Russian commanders.

They took on site photos. They reported no irregularities. Nothing suggests Moscow threatens Ukraine. US officials lie claiming otherwise.

(7) "Russia Claims: Ethnic Russians in Ukraine are under threat."

The State Department lied claiming no threat exists. Neo-Nazi thugs run key ministries. They hate all opposition elements. They live under threat. Their lives and safety are endangered.

(8) "Russia Claims: Ukraine's new government is led by radical nationalists and fascists."

The State Department twisted truth claiming otherwise. Neo-Nazi thugs prominently display swastikas, Iron Crosses, SS insignia and other fascist symbols.

US officials ignore it. Obama's new friends are thugs. They represent the worst of societal misfits.

They threaten all Ukrainians. They threaten regional peace. They risk turning Ukraine's crisis into global conflict.

(9) "Russia Claims: Ethnic minorities face persecution in Ukraine from the 'fascist' government in Kyiv."

All Ukrainians are at risk. Fascists tolerate no opposition. Presidential aspirant Oleg Tsarev is Exhibit A. He opposes Kiev putschists.

A previous article discussed him. Neo-Nazi Right Sector Sector thugs attacked him. They brutally beat him. He's hospitalized in critical condition. Washington ignored what happened. Scoundrel media buried the story.

His candidacy stands. He's not pulling out. If he recovers, maybe putschist thugs will kill him. Fascists operate this way. Obama supports them.

(10) "Russia Claims: Russia is not using energy and trade as weapons against Ukraine."

The State Department lied claiming otherwise. Since 2009, Moscow subsidized Ukraine's economy.

It provided unprecedented natural gas discounts. They totaled $17 billion. Plus another $18.4 billion Ukraine incurred as a minimal "take-or-pay fine."

"No other country provided such support except Russia," said Putin. Western ones provided none.

They want Ukraine colonized. Plundering its resources is planned. Exploiting its people. Turning Ukraine into a pro-Western vassal state. Incorporating it into NATO.

Deploying US nuclear armed missiles on Russia's borders. Threatening regional peace and stability unconscionably. Risking WW III.

Don't expect the State Department to explain. Or neocon infesting Washington.

Or supportive scoundrel media. War winds head dangerously toward gale force. Risks demanding headlines are buried.

A Final Comment

On April 16, Odessa anti-Maidan activists proclaimed the People's Republic of Odessa. They issued a statement saying:

"From today, Odessa region becomes the People's Republic of Odessa, where the power belongs to the people living in its territory."

City residents were urged to prevent outside traffic from entering except ambulances. Odessa activists joined their counterparts in over a dozen other Eastern Ukrainian cities.

Growing protests demand local autonomy and democratic rights.

Ukrainians Denied Democracy

Ukrainians Denied Democracy

by Stephen Lendman

Claiming otherwise doesn't wash. Moscow called Kiev events "an illegitimate fascist coup and a military seizure of power." Western-supported putschists seized it.

At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urges deescalating crisis conditions. It's completely possible, he said.

It requires replacing putschists with democratic governance. It involved instituting responsible policies. Ones that protect fundamental legal rights and freedoms of all Ukrainians. Ones that guarantee them.

Russia is on the right side of history. It promised help. It set four conditions. It wants legitimate Crimean independence recognized.

It wants Ukrainian democratic constitutional reform. It wants Eastern Ukraine's crisis conditions resolved responsibly. It wants Russian speakers' rights guaranteed.

Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said:

"If Ukraine fulfills these four conditions, then Russia will be able to propose further steps on additional help both on financial and gas issues."

He urged deescalating Eastern Ukrainian crisis conditions peacefully. He said doing so "without discrimination against Russian-speaking population, without victims and bloodshed" is fundamental.

He stressed holding legitimate May presidential elections. Early indications suggest they'll be polar opposite.

Moscow rejects Kiev putschists. It wants legitimate governance "with which one may negotiate," said Siluanov. Vladimir Putin addressed 18 EU leaders. He did so by letter. He did it responsibly.

He called for urgent cooperation. He said Ukraine's gas debt reached a "critical" level. It's been unpaid for three months. He wants addressing it prioritized.

At issue is cutting off supplies. Gazprom wants advance payments going forward. Putin's letter was forthright. Ukraine's economy is "plummeting," he said.

Its industrial and construction sectors "declin(ed) sharply." Conditions head from bad to worse.

"Its budget deficit is mounting," said Putin. "The condition of its currency system is becoming more and more deplorable."

"The negative trade balance is accompanied by the flight of capital from the country. Ukraine's economy is steadfastly heading towards a default, a halt in production and skyrocketing unemployment."

Russia and EU nations are major Ukraine trading partners. They agreed to consult on ways to develop its economy.

"(A)ll attempts on Russia's part to begin real consultations failed to produce any results," said Putin.

Plundering Ukraine for profit takes precedence. Western nations plan unrestrained looting. Corporate interests matter most. Human needs don't count.

Washington wants Russia shut out entirely. Western partners share blame. They want unfettered freedom to control Ukraine their way.

They want their interests alone served. Putin said they "want to unilaterally blame Russia for the consequences of Ukraine's economic crisis."

"Right from day one of Ukraine's existence as an independent state, Russia has supported the stability of the Ukrainian economy by supplying it with natural gas at cut-rate prices."

(U)ninterrupted transit through" its territory was guaranteed. Russia fulfilled its contractual obligations. It did so "to the letter and spirit" of what was agreed on.

It "granted Ukraine a whole string of unprecedented privileges and discounts on the price of natural gas," Putin added.

From 2009 to today, they total $17 billion. Plus "another 18.4 billion US dollars incurred by the Ukrainian side as a minimal take-or-pay fine."

Russia subsidized Ukraine's economy. It provided $34.4 billion since 2009. It helped preserve "stability and credibility." It saved jobs.

"No other country provided such support except Russia," said Putin. "What about European partners?"

They deny support. They "talk about a declaration of intent." Actions don't follow promises. EU nations take full advantage.

They want Ukrainian resources. They want its "raw foodstuffs, metal(s) and mineral(s)." They want free market access on their own terms. They want it for their own products and services.

They want unlimited profits. They want them at Ukraine's expense. They created a huge trade imbalance. It exceeds $10 billion. It's two-thirds of Ukraine's 2013 deficit.

It negatively affects Ukraine's ability to fulfill "its contractual obligations to pay for deliveries of natural gas supplied by Russia," said Putin.

Moscow won't "unilaterally bear the burden of supporting Ukraine's economy by way of providing discounts and forgiving debts…"

Ukraine's unpaid gas Gazprom debt grows monthly. In November/December 2013, it was $1.451.1 billion.

"(I)n February 2014, it increased by a further 260.3 million and in March by another 526.1 million US dollars."

Gazprom deserves payment. It intends "switch(ing) over to advance payment for gas delivery, and in the event of further violation of the conditions of payment, will completely or partially cease gas deliveries," said Putin.

"In other words, only the volume of natural gas will be delivered to Ukraine as was paid for one month in advance of delivery."

It's "an extreme measure." It's coming. Businesses don't provide products or services free. For sure, not Western ones.

"In order to guarantee uninterrupted transit, it will be necessary, in the nearest future, to supply 11.5 billion cubic meters of gas that will be pumped into Ukraine's underground storage facilities, and this will require a payment of about 5 billion US dollars," said Putin.

EU nations "unilaterally withdr(ew) from the concerted efforts to resolve" Ukraine's crisis responsibly. They shut out Russia entirely. It leaves "no alternative," Putin stressed.

Resolving things requires "consultations…without delay," he said. He urged them "at the level of ministers of economics, finances and energy…"

At issue is stabilizing Ukraine's economy. It's ensuring uninterrupted Russian natural gas deliveries.

Doing so requires fulfilling contractual obligation terms to the letter. Putin emphasized Russia's considerable "investments, contributions and expenditures…"

It "shouldered" the burden "alone" long enough. It's time for Western nations to step up to the plate and help.

"(O)nly such an approach can lead to success," Putin stressed. He did so forthrightly. He showed responsible leadership.

He shames his Western counterparts. Major ones lack legitimacy altogether. Especially Obama. Hegemonic US ambitions trample on fundamental freedoms.

White House press secretary Jay Carney's comment didn't surprise." He outrageously said "(w)e've made clear in the past that it is wholly inappropriate to use energy exports to achieve diplomatic or geopolitical objectives."

Maybe he wants Russian gas supplied free. Maybe he supports what he'd denounce if US corporations were affected.

Angela Merkel got Putin's message. She responded differently, saying:

"(T)here there are many reasons to seriously take into account this message…and for Europe to deliver a joint European response" straightaway.

She and other EU foreign ministers plan meeting on Monday. Other talks will involve Russia, Washington, and Ukraine.

"When we take all these steps, we can be sure that we have reached a joined response for the countries that encounter this problem because they get natural gas from Gazprom," she said.

"We want to be good clients, but it means that we can base ourselves on the supplies, and Ukraine knows this and should understand it," she added.

It remains to be seen what follows. Putin showed extraordinary patience. He deserves praise, not irresponsible treatment.

Instead endures unconscionable bashing. He's vilified for doing the right thing.

Sohrab Ahmari is a Wall Street Journal Europe editorial page writer. He substitutes lies for truth. On April 11, he headlined "Waking Up to the Russian Threat."

None whatever exists. He lied claiming otherwise. He called NATO secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen "one of Europe's most serious thinkers on defense matters."

He's a convenient US stooge. He supports Pentagon policy. He's an unindicted war criminal. He spoke to Ahmari. His comments didn't surprise.

He lied saying Putin wants "to restore Russian greatness by re-establishing a sphere of influence in the former Soviet space."

His strategy, said Ahmari, involves "(d)estabilizing Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus."

According to Rasmussen, "(i)ts in Russia's interest to see frozen, protracted conflicts in the region, such as in South Ossetia and Abkhazia in Georgia, Transnistria in Moldova, and Crimea."

He's alarmed, he said. "(W)e have seen an incredible development of (Russia's military) to act determinedly and rapidly."

He ignored US-NATO's aggression against Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. He was silent about its killing machine.

He said nothing about its responsibility for millions of deaths. Their corpses bear testimony to lawless US-led NATO policy. Ahmari didn't challenge Rasmussen responsibly.

He lied claiming 40,000 Russian troops are massed on Ukraine's border. Calling them an imminent threat rings hollow.

Rasmussen's claims are polar opposite truth. He expressed concern about increased Russian military spending. It's a tiny fraction of NATO member expenditures.

Moscow isn't belligerent. It poses no threat. Putin prioritizes peace and stability. US-led NATO threatens humanity.

Not according to Rasmussen. He bashed Putin irresponsibly. He considers NATO a threat. "He can't seriously" think so, Rasmussen said.

"We have never had an intention to attack Russia," he claimed. He left unexplained why NATO wants all former Russian republics and Warsaw Pact countries incorporated into its alliance.

Why it's deploying hostile forces close to Russia's borders. Why it irresponsibly lies about its threat. Why it's poised perhaps to strike belligerently if it chooses.

Rasmussen lied claiming NATO members and others on Europe's periphery share basic people-friendly values.

They include "individual liberty, democracy, the rule of law and on top of that economic opportunities, because our community of nations also represents economic freedom," he said.

He turned truth on its head saying so. He's militantly anti-Russian. He lied claiming otherwise.

Ahmari let him comment without challenge. Doing so showed complicity with NATO lawlessness.

It showed support for war. It showed disdain for peace. It showed contempt for growing thousands across Eastern Ukraine.

They're protesting for fundamental rights too important to sacrifice. They continue in Kharkov (Ukraine's second largest city), Donetsk (its largest industrial city), Dnepropetrovsk, Lugansk, Odessa and Nikolayev.

They spread to Slavyansk and elsewhere. Government and police headquarters buildings were seized.

Activists reject Kiev putschists. They urged local authorities join them. What's ongoing is spreading.

Maybe Western Ukrainians will rally the same way. Obama's new imperial trophy looks insecure. It may slip-slide away.

His entire tenure reflects failure. It reflects lawlessness writ large.

Mass protests reflect people power. Ordinary Ukrainians want better. They deserve it. They're putting their bodies on the line responsibly.

They're role models for freedom fighters everywhere. Resisting tyranny is a universal right. It's a moral obligation.

Ukrainian protesters take their role seriously. Perhaps others may follow. Defeating hegemonic ruthlessness depends on it. Hopefully activism will grow when most needed.

A Final Comment

On Saturday, Chicago activists held a Ukraine teach-in. Speakers included Stop NATO's Rick Rozoff, Anti-War Committee member Holly Kent-Payne, and International Action Center's Sara Flounders, among others.

Advance information expressed outrage over US hegemonic ambitions. Anti-Russian sentiment exceeds the worst of Cold War days. Putin is public enemy number one.

Obama ousted Ukraine's democratic government. He elevated illegitimate putschist fascists to power.

He sanctioned Moscow for rejecting them. He did so for embracing lawful Crimean reunification.

He deployed US military forces close to Russia's borders. He did it belligerently. He risks a potential East/West confrontation.

He threatens global conflict. Stopping him is top priority. Ordinary people have power to do it.

Protests work when sustained. The more disruptive the better. Jefferson's opposition to John Adams' repressive 1978 Alien and Sedition Acts is relevant. He commented saying:

"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles."

Ordinary people have power when they use it. Collective defiance works when sustained. It's essential for real democracy.

Eastern Ukrainians can teach Americans a thing or two. They deserve worldwide support. Humanity stands to benefit. It needs all the help it can get.

Eastern Ukrainian Resistance

Eastern Ukrainian Resistance

by Stephen Lendman

Thousands of Eastern Ukrainians reject Kiev putschists. Perhaps millions. They want local sovereignty. They want autonomy rights.

They want them respected. They reject fascist rule. They demand their own referendum. They want Ukraine federalized.

Protests continue in Kharkov (Ukraine's second largest city), Donetsk (its largest industrial city), Dnepropetrovsk, Lugansk, Odessa, Nikolayev and elsewhere.

They're growing. They're spreading. They have legs. Maybe parts of Western Ukraine will join them.

Ukrainians are long-suffering. They rejected Orange Revolution rule years earlier. Perhaps Orange Revolution 2.0 won't fare better. It remains to be seen what happens going forward.

Will Eastern Ukrainian resistance spread? Will it do so nationwide? Will Ukrainians overwhelmingly reject fascist/predatory IMF rule? Will they demand equitable change?

Will they protests en masse like before? Will they sustain it long enough to matter? Will they refuse what demands rejection?

Eastern Ukrainians reacted first. On April 7, RT International headlined "Pro-Russian protesters seize govt buildings in Ukraine's Donetsk, Lugansk and Kharkov."

Included was Donetsk's Security Service building. "The people's militia seized Ukraine’s Security Service in 15 minutes, at 3:32 in the morning," its members said.

It's blocked to protect against local security forces. On Sunday, thousands rallied in Eastern Ukrainian cities.

They flooded streets. They waved Russian flags. They chanted "Russia! Russia!"

They demanded local sovereignty. They called Kiev putschists an "illegal junta."

They demand Kiev appointed governor/oligarch Sergey Taruta "get out." They burned a Nazi zealot's effigy publicly.

They called doing so "an act of annihilation of fascism." Clashes with police broke out. Protesters seized their riot shields.

They entered the Security Service building. They replaced the Ukrainian flag with the Russian one.

According to activist Aleksandr Borodin:

"The situation is pretty tense. The demonstrators are occupying the city council building and are demanding that an independence referendum is held to determine the future of the region of Donetsk."

"The protesters are calling on officials to conduct a special session over the referendum situation."

"If it doesn't take place, the demonstrators say they will organize an initiative group to settle the issue."

They won't "acknowledge the Kiev-appointed authorities and are also demanding freedom for the recently elected so-called 'public governor.' "

On April 7, Itar Tass headlined "Legislature of just proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic asks Putin move in peacekeepers."

They formed a Republican Council of the Donetsk's People's Republic. They adopted legislation saying:

"The territory of the republic within the recognized borders is indivisible and inviolable."

They ruled on holding a referendum. They'll do so no later than May 11. They'll decide whether or not to join Russia.

"On March 1," said Itar Tass, "Russia's Federation Council gave its consent to the president for using the armed forces on the territory of Ukraine."

"The relevant decision was unanimously adopted by the upper house of Russian parliament at an extraordinary session."

"Earlier, Vladimir Putin submitted to the Federation Council an address on using the armed forces of Russia on the territory of Ukraine until the normalization of the socio-political situation in that country."

"This initiative was proposed with regard to a plea by Ukraine's legitimate president Viktor Yanukovych."

At issue is protecting the security of Russian-speaking nationals. It's securing their rights.

Lugansk events are unfolding like Donetsk's, said RT. Around 1,000 people rallied outside the local Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) building.

They demand protest leader Aleksandr Kharitonov's release. He's been lawlessly detained since mid-March.

So were 15 pro-Russian activists on Saturday. People carried Russian flags. They chanted "Shame on the SBU." "Freedom to political prisoners."

Clashes erupted. Injuries were reported. Kiev appointed governor released six anti-putschist activists.

Violence erupted in Kharkov. Pro-Russian protesters clashed with Right Sector extremists. Police separated both sides. No injuries were reported.

Around 1,500 pro-Russian supporters occupied the putschist UNIAN news agency building.

According to RT:

"Pro-Russian rallies are taking place almost every weekend in major cities in the Russian-speaking part of Ukraine since the nationalist coup ousted Ukrainian president, Viktor Yanukovich, in late February."

Things remain fluid. The struggle for Ukraine's soul continues. RT highlighted Donetsk activists declaring a local republic.

They want one independent from Kiev. They reject putschist rule. They want legal governance replacing it. They proclaimed their Regional Council the sole legitimate governing body.

They did so pending a planned referendum. It'll be held by May 11 or sooner. Ukrainian activism is spreading. So far in Eastern cities. Perhaps nationwide soon.

At the same time, Russia bashing continues relentlessly. So do US-led Western efforts to marginalize, isolate, weaken and contain Moscow.

Political and military cooperation was suspended. Other options include positioning US-led NATO forces closer to Russia's border.

Provocative military exercises are planned. Challenging Moscow is madness. It's happening in real time. It's escalating dangerously. Doing so risks potential major conflict madness.

A previous article discussed Zero Hedge headlining "Petrodollar Alert: Putin Prepares to Announce 'Holy Grail' Gas Deal With China," saying:

If Washington and EU partners intended greater Sino/Russian unity, "one (nation) a natural resource…superpower and the other a fixed capital/labor output…powerhouse, in the process marginalizing the dollar and encouraging Ruble and Renminbi bilateral trade, then things are surely 'going according to plan.' "

Moscow/Beijing unity against Western imperialism is their best defense. Conditions head both nations more closely together against it.

Russia is preparing a "Holy Grail" energy deal with China. Doing so will send "geopolitical shockwaves around the world," said Zero Hedge.

It'll lay "groundwork for a new joint, commodity-backed reserve currency…" It'll bypass dollar transactions. It'll weaken petrodollar strength.

Moscow's "Holy Grail" is a major natural gas deal with Beijing. Negotiations are close to complete. It involves supplying 38 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

It'll do so via pipeline. It's the first one between both nations.

Putin plans visiting China in May. He's expected to close the deal. The more Western nations pressure Russia, the closer it's drawn to China.

Bilateral ruble/renminbi trade weakens dollar strength. Perhaps other countries may follow in their own currencies.

India and Iran are prime candidates. Perhaps Brazil and others will follow suit.

Washington reacted as expected. According to Zero Hedge, it threatened Russia. It did so over a "petrodollar-busting deal."

It warned against "possible oil barter(ing)" transactions. It warned Iran against them. US-led Western sanctions are counterproductive.

Perhaps Washington shot itself in the foot. Russia has plenty of retaliatory ammunition. What better way than by weakening petrodollar strength.

It's a pillar of America's geopolitical/military might. It furthers US supremacy. It does so at the expense of other nations.

It finances America's global military machine. It advances US imperialism. It furthers financial speculation.

It facilitates corporate takeovers. It does so at the expense of beneficial social change, human and civil rights. It prevents potential democratic change outbreaks.

Global central banks recycle dollar inflows. They do so into US Treasuries. They finance America's deficit. It matters with QE diminishing. Perhaps ending.

Moscow/Beijing bilateral trade in their own currencies "is rapidly turning out into a terminal confirmation of (US) weakness," said Zero Hedge.

"Russia seems perfectly happy to telegraph that it is just as willing to use barter (and perhaps gold) and shortly other 'regional' currencies, as it is to use the US Dollar," it added.

It's "hardly the intended outcome of the western blockade, which appears to have just backfired and further impacted the untouchable status of the Petrodollar."

"If Washington can't stop this deal," perhaps others will follow. Perhaps a groundswell among leading nations.

Petrodollar trading gives America major unfair advantages. According to Voice of Russia, "Moscow is ready to take (them) away."

So is China. Imagine a combination petroruble/petrorenminbi weakening petrodollar strength. Imagine other petrocurrencies doing it further.

Imagine petrodollar might becoming a shadow of its former self. Imagine destructive US policies waning. Imagine a world safer to live in.

Imagine a fairer one. Imagine what won't happen easily or soon. Imagine what one day perhaps is possible. Top Russian officials support petrodollar weakening.

Economy Minister Alexei Ulyukaev urged Russian energy companies to ditch the dollar. "They must be braver in signing contracts in rubles and (partner country) currencies," he said.

Last month, VTB CEO Andrei Kostin said gas giant Gazprom, state-own oil company Rosneft, and exclusive defense-related weapons/ technologies/dual-use products/and services company  Rosoboronexport "can start trading in rubles."

They don't mind switching, they said. They need a "mechanism" to do so. Russian upper house Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said no efforts will be spared to create one.

Putin intends challenging Washington responsibly. Chinese leader Xi Jinping appears willing to join him. Together they're a formidable combination.

Perhaps Moscow/Beijing commodity exchanges will exclude dollar transactions. Maybe they'll replace them with ruble/renminbi ones.

Rosneft signed large oil contracts with China. It's close to major ones with Indian companies. They exclude dollar transactions.

Russia heads toward trading goods for oil with Iran. If Rosneft deals in rubles, petrodollar strength will suffer.

According to Zero Hedge, "US sanctions have opened a Pandora's box of troubles for the American currency." Russian retaliation promises unpleasant consequences.

What if other countries follow Russian and Chinese examples? What if avoiding dollar transactions catches on?

What if long prevented US comeuppance happens? What if America met its match? What if it's responsibly weakened? The sound you hear is overwhelming popular approval.

Madness in Ukraine

Madness in Ukraine

by Stephen Lendman

This year's March madness wasn't in America. Nor what continues in April. Or what preceded it. Or perhaps what's likely to follow. It's in Ukraine.

It's ground zero. It represents the greatest geopolitical crisis since WW II. It threatens a third global conflict. It that's not madness, what is?

Obama bears full responsibility. His rap sheet is blood-drenched. He's waging multiple direct and proxy wars. He's got lots more mass slaughter and destruction in mind.

He wants unchallenged US global dominance. He wants Russia marginalized, isolated, weakened, contained and co-opted. His objectives risk global war.

Ukraine is a major geopolitical flashpoint. It's hugely dangerous. Challenging Russia recklessly may ignite what no responsible leader would risk.

Obama represents the worst of rogue leadership. He's ideologically extreme. He's over-the-top and then some. He's a con man like no other. He risks potential armageddon.

Aijaz Ahmad is a political commentator. He's a New Delhi-based Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Professorial Fellow.

He's a York University, Toronto visiting Political Science Professor. He's the Indian newsmagazine Frontline senior news analyst.

It's a Hindu Group fortnightly English language publication. It covers domestic and world news. It features analysis.

In its April 18 edition, Ahmad headlined "The 'Great Game' in Europe," saying:

"In its eagerness to complete the encirclement of Russia by turning Ukraine into a forward country for positioning NATO bases, the US is paving the way for fraternal genocide and ethnic cleansing."

"A closer strategic alliance between Russia and China may well be the one positive outcome of the Ukrainian fiasco."

On April 4, RIA Novosti discussed Ahmad's analysis. It headlined "US Instigating 'Yugoslav Scenario' of Fraternal Genocide in Ukraine."

From March 1991 through mid-June 1999, Balkan wars raged. Yugoslavia "balkanized" into seven countries.

They include Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia.

From March 24 through June 10, 1999, US-led NATO war raped and destroyed the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY).

Known or suspected military sites were targeted. So were many civilian areas and infrastructure unrelated to military operations.

Cities, villages and other locations were struck. Mass slaughter, displacement, destruction and human misery followed.

America claimed another imperial trophy. The former Yugoslavia no longer exists. Imagine this happening to Ukraine.

Imagine it igniting global conflict. Imagine the madness of risking it. Ahmad addressed the issue.

Washington ousted Ukraine's democratically elected government. It elevated fascist putschists to power.

It opposes legitimate Crimean reunification with Russia. It challenges Moscow irresponsibly. It does so recklessly.

What's ongoing represents a "turning point and a watershed event" in US/Russian relations, said Ahmad.

It followed Obama's Asia pivot. It's about hardening America's Pacific presence. It involves advancing Washington's military footprint.

Doing it aggressively is planned. China's growing economic might and military strength are targeted. So is checking Russia at the same time.

Obama wants both countries contained. They're formidable adversaries. Permanent war is longstanding US policy.

Bush said "You're either with us or against us." Independence isn't tolerated.

Washington began rebalancing East Asia years ago. Strategy involves strengthening military, economic, and political ties with Japan, South Korea, India, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam.

It involves undermining Chinese and Russian influence. It's about isolating them from neighbors. It's asserting Washington's dominance over territories and waters not its own.

WW I and II echoes remain audible. Never again grows more likely. Flashpoint conditions risk the unthinkable. Small disputes ignite major ones.

It's back to the future. Cold War politics never ended. It morphed into new form. Containing Russia and China involve civilizations clashing. Perhaps belligerently.

Obama exceeds the worst of his predecessors. He's biting off more than he can chew. He defends the indefensible. He risks the unthinkable.

Ahmad is justifiably concerned. Obama initiated a European pivot, he said. Encircling Russia with US/NATO bases is reckless.

Ukraine may become another Yugoslavia. Doing so risks WW III.

"IMF-imposed austerity on a ruined economy and NATO-propelled militarization for eyeball-to-eyeball confrontation with Russian power is just the kind of combustible combination that may well lead to a civil war, a regional war, and heaven knows what else - in a country where 70 per cent in a recent Gallup poll voted against joining NATO," said Ahmad.

China and India support Moscow's Ukraine agenda. It's legal. It's responsible. It's polar opposite Washington's intentions.

Putin prioritizes peace and stability. Obama risks East/West confrontation. Recklessness defines his agenda. The worst of all possible outcomes may follow.

Earlier Great Game confrontations were minor compared to what's ongoing today. At stake is humanity's survival.

US-led NATO is a killing machine. It's a weapon of mass destruction. Millions of corpses bear witness to its ruthlessness.

Washington and rogue NATO allies threaten world peace. They suspended political and military cooperation with Russia. A joint statement said:

"We have decided to suspend all practical civilian and military cooperation between NATO and Russia."

"Our political dialogue in the NATO-Russia Council can continue, as necessary, at the Ambassadorial level and above, to allow us to exchange views, first and foremost on this crisis."

NATO partners plan "additional measures to reinforce (the alliance's) collective defenses." Detailed proposals will follow.

A Kremlin statement said earlier efforts to integrate Ukraine into NATO led to a "widening of the split in Ukrainian society, the majority of which anything but supports the idea of Ukraine entering the NATO military block."

It doesn't matter. It's happening in real time. NATO members plan enhanced military cooperation with Ukraine. Doing so includes involving Kiev in NATO military exercises.

It's integrating it into other NATO activities. They involve encroaching closer to Russia's border.

According to NATO ministers, they're considering "options ranging from stepped-up military exercises and sending more forces to eastern members states, to the permanent basing of alliance forces there…"

Doing so is hugely provocative. Claiming a Russian threat doesn't wash. None whatever exists.

Moscow prioritizes peaceful co-existence. America is obsessed with empire building.

A circulating social media graphic shows Western and Eastern Europe infested with NATO bases encroaching on Russia's borders.

How dare Moscow locate its territory close to NATO military installations, it suggests.

Putin is geopolitically polar opposite Obama. He prioritizes peace and stability. He's gone all-out to prevent East/West conflict.

It's the world's greatest threat. Preventing it matters most. Best efforts may fail. Hegemons want things their way.

Washington exceeds the worst of earlier ones. Obama represents the worst of rogue leadership.

It's a combustible combination. It risks global war. Ukraine may be flashpoint enough to ignite it.

Efforts to defuse things aren't happening. Polar opposite policies are ongoing. They're escalating.

A nonexistent Russian threat is being hyped provocatively. America's sordid history is long and disturbing.

Enemies are invented. They're pretexts for war. America won't quit waging them. It plans more. Advancing its imperium alone matters.

Challenging Russia is madness. It's happening in real time. It bears repeating. The worst of all possible outcomes may follow.

A Final Comment

On Saturday, Afghans voted. A previous article called Afghanistan elections more farcical than fair.

Bribes, intimidation, violence, ballot-box stuffing, and other massive fraud characterized previous elections. Pro-Western candidates are featured. Independent ones are shunned.

Eight candidates vied to become Afghanistan's next president. US-anointed stooge Harmid Karzai vowed no third term.

He's constitutionally ineligible to seek one. Hundreds of candidates competed in provincial elections.

Weeks or perhaps months will pass before knowing who won most contests. If no presidential aspirant wins a majority, runoff voting will follow.

It's scheduled for May 28. The two top polling candidates will compete. A previous article said it hardly matters.

Afghans already lost. Choices excluded hope and change. Democracy is nowhere in sight. It's strictly verboten.

Militarized occupation prevents it. Barrel of a gun rule excludes it. So does out-of-control daily violence. Not according to Obama.

On April 5, a duplicitous White House statement "congratulated the millions of Afghans who enthusiastically participated in today's historic elections, which promise to usher in the first democratic transfer of power in Afghanistan's history and which represent another important milestone in Afghans taking full responsibility for their country as the United States and our partners draw down our forces."

"We commend the Afghan people, security forces, and elections officials on the turnout for today's vote - which is in keeping with the spirited and positive debate among candidates and their supporters in the run-up to the election."

"These elections are critical to securing Afghanistan's democratic future, as well as continued international support, and we look to the Afghan electoral bodies to carry out their duties in the coming weeks to adjudicate the results - knowing that the most critical voices on the outcome are those of Afghans themselves."

"Today, we also pay tribute to the many Americans - military and civilian - who have sacrificed so much to support the Afghan people as they take responsibility for their own future."

"The United States continues to support a sovereign, stable, unified, and democratic Afghanistan, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the new government chosen by the Afghan people on the basis of mutual respect and mutual accountability."

Fact check

Afghans have no democracy. Not now. Not planned. Not any time short or intermediate term. Washington tolerates none at home or abroad.

It abhors sovereign independence. It demands subservient vassal states. It wants pro-Western puppets leading them. Regime change targets outliers. Aggressive wars are waged to replace them.

America's "partnership" with Afghanistan reflects a master/colonial subjugated servant relationship. Washington rules apply. Afghans have no say.

Plundering Afghanistan for profit is prioritized. So is exploiting its people.

It's flooding the world with massive amounts of heroin from locally grown opium. It's targeting Russia and China from nearby US/NATO bases.

Human lives don't matter. Equity, justice, and other democratic values are verboten. Hegemons operate this way.

America is by far the worst in world history. It may end up destroying planet earth to own it.

The Struggle for Ukraine’s Soul Continues

The Struggle for Ukraine's Soul Continues

by Stephen Lendman

Ukraine remains a global flashpoint. Turmoil, possible internal power struggles and uncertainty reflect things. Plundering its economy is planned.

Obama's Brussels speech was duplicitous. It was provocative. It stoked confrontation with Russia.

Daily inflammatory Western headlines continue. Anti-Russian vitriol remains intense. Lies substitute for truth.

Friday's Wall Street Journal was typical. It headlined "Russian Buildup Stokes Worries."

No "buildup" whatever exist. Not according to Journal contributors. Propaganda substitutes for accurate reporting. Lies drown out truth.

Unnamed US officials were cited. Credibility isn't Washington's long suit. Nor Journal editors and contributors.

"Russian troops massing near Ukraine are actively concealing their positions and establishing supply lines that could be used in a prolonged deployment, ratcheting up concerns that Moscow is preparing for another major incursion and not conducting exercises as it claims," the Journal reported.

"Such an incursion could take place without warning because Russia has already deployed the array of military forces needed for such an operation," it added.

According to US officials, Russia massed 50,000 troops on Ukraine's border. An unnamed Ukrainian official said 100,000.

A "senior US official" said "(w)hat matters is the intent. And we don't have a clear sense of that."

False! No Russian buildup exists. No Ukraine invasion is planned. Putin isn't expansionist. He respects sovereign rights of other nations.

His agenda is polar opposite Washington's. Don't expect Journal editors or contributors to explain. Russia bashing continues daily.

Its intensity exceeds the worst of Cold War years. It shows no signs of ebbing. Lies, damn lies, and misinformation remain official Western editorial policy.

Stars and Stripes is a Pentagon publication. On March 27, it featured a McClatchy Foreign Staff report. It quoted illegitimate Orange Revolution leader Viktor Yushchenko.

Washington elevated him to power fraudulently. He left office widely despised. His last public act was naming Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera a Hero of Ukraine.

It's the highest national title award. It's given for "personal heroism and great labor achievements." Bandara collaborated in mass executions and ethnic cleansing.

Yushchenko lied claiming "Putin will not pause…This is harvest time for" him. "(H)is mission in this life is to restore the USSR."

Russia "has not changed, not in 50 years, or 100 years, or 200 years. When Russia builds an empire, it starts with Ukraine."

"In other words, to build a new empire, the success of Putin's policy rests on the war in Ukraine. His mission is not complete without it."

"The biggest European state is disappearing before our eyes. It must be a common cause to stop the aggressor. Crimea was a test. If we don’t understand that, we're inviting the aggressor to advance even further."

Ukraine's problems are its own making. Possible internal power struggles emerged. Right Sector neo-Nazis are involved. They're militantly hardline.

They're the worst of a bad lot of rogues running things. They're gun-toting, radicalized terrorists. They want more authority than already.

They're incensed about Aleksandr Muzychko's (aka Sashko Bilyi) assassination. He was killed in Rovno. It's in western Ukraine. He coordinated Right Sector elements. They vow revenge.

Over 1,500 Right Sector extremists encircled Kiev's parliament (Rada). On Thursday, they threatened to storm it.

They wore masks. They came armed. They brandished bats. They demand Interior Minister Arsen Avakov's ouster. "Avakov get out," they screamed!

They want him tried for murder. Right Sector Dmitry Yarosh said:

"We'll wait for the negotiators from the Parliament, the MPs, but we won't settle for Avakov's resignation. We want his tribunal."

On Friday, Voice of Russia (VOR) said Right Sector members postponed storming Kiev's parliament.

An interim commission was formed. It'll investigate Muzychko's killing. Right Sector members will be involved.

Oleh Odnorozhenko is one of its Political Council officials. Following negotiations with parliamentarians, he said:

"(T)he demands put forth by the Right Sector have been fulfilled, and tomorrow we will gather outside the Verkhovna Rada and will continue to monitor the situation at the Verkhovna Rada."

Demands for Avakov's ouster continue. He's getting Right Sector threats, he said. He "accepts the challenge," he added. On Friday, rallies outside Kiev's parliament continued for his removal.

Right Sector elements want Sokil (Falcon) special police involved in Muzychko's killing arrested. Conditions in Kiev remain tense. Internal conflict could erupt any time. Perhaps civil war.

A previous article discussed plundering Ukraine for profit. A $14 - 18 billion "Stand-By Arrangement" IMF loan was arranged. Financial terrorism describes it.

It's usury of the worst kind. It's grand theft, not aid. It assures debt bondage. It guarantees Greek style depression conditions. It promises unspeakable human misery.

It doesn't matter. It's official Kiev policy. It has nothing to do with restoring economic stability and growth. It has everything to do with strip-mining Ukraine of its material wealth.

Getting in bed with IMF rogues assures polar opposite policies than what's needed. Dystopian harshness is certain. Selling off Ukraine's crown jewels at fire sale prices is coming.

So are mass layoffs, deep social spending cuts, frozen or lower wages, deeply impoverishing millions, and harsh crackdowns on nonbelievers.

Not according to New York Times editors. A disgraceful editorial headlined "Welcome Help for Ukraine," saying:

"(T)he country just got some encouraging economic news." IMF money is coming. Congress approved $1 billion in loan guarantee help plus $150 million in direct aid. Europe agreed to $2.2 billion.

"(N)ew financing…could help a desperate country avoid default and begin rebuilding its economy and an effective democracy," said Times editors.

False! Putschist governance reflects despotism, not democracy.  IMF loans guarantee polar opposite conditions than what Times editors claim.

They hailed what demands condemnation. It's longstanding Times policy. It's consistently on the wrong side of history. Don't expect them to explain.

Bashing Russia takes precedence. On March 27, Russophobes Jason Pack and Brendan Simms were featured.

They headlined "A Weak EU Can't Stop Putin." They called Crimea's legitimate referendum "a sham."

They denounced "Mr. Putin's thuggery." They urged a more robust EU response. They want member countries more effectively "defend(ing) their own backyard."

They lied saying Russia threatens them. No threat whatever exists. If EU countries "do not unite to face the Russian threat, Europe will cease to be a player on the world stage," they claimed.

Remaining confrontational risks igniting an East/West conflict. Don't expect Times contributors to explain.

Pack and Simms praised NATO's war of aggression on Libya. They called it "a best-case scenario (of) shared…objectives."

Ukraine's crisis represents a "worse-case" one, they added. Russia is a key trading partner. Economic and political punishment cut both ways.

Crisis conditions give European leaders a "perfect opportunity (for) genuine Continent-wide integration," they said.

The ludicrous alternative they envision is Putin being able to restore Russia's empire, "manipulate energy prices, roll back human rights and destabilize the Middle East."

No responsible editors would publish this rubbish. Times editors featured it.

Separately, The Times headlined "Former Prime Minister Announces Candidacy for President of Ukraine."

What followed omitted what readers most need to know. She was an illegitimate Orange Revolution prime minister.

She's a convicted mega-crook. She stole millions. She was imprisoned for embezzlement and serious "abuse of public office."

Charges included illegally diverting $425 million meant for environmental projects into pension funds. A second case involved stealing around $130 million for personal use.

Illegitimate Kiev putschists lawlessly freed her. She belongs in prison serving hard time. She's the best-known presidential aspirant in a field largely resembling a police lineup.

Times editors largely suppressed information about her leaked phone conversation with former Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council deputy secretary Nestor Shufrych.

She called for turning Russia to ashes. "It's about time we grab our guns and kill those katsaps (a derogatory Ukrainian term) together with their leader."

Referring to Putin, she said she's ready to "grab a machine gun and shoot that m…erf…er in the head."

Her comments circulated on You Tube. They got wide alternative media coverage. Western media largely ignored it.

Times editors entirely did at first. Times Tymoshenko report contributors gave it short shrift. They did so well into their account. It stopped well short of proper coverage. It demanded headlines.

Tymoshenko resembles Washington-installed fascist putschists running Ukraine. They have no legitimacy whatever. Nor she. Don't expect Times editors to explain.

Separately, Washington imposed more sanctions on Russia. The Commerce Department banned exports of so-called "dual use" items with potential military applications.

Its Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) did so weeks earlier. It was done quietly. Its web site said:

"Since March 1, 2014, BIS has placed a hold on the issuance of licenses that would authorize the export or re-export of items to Russia. BIS will continue this practice until further notice."

On March 27, Foreign Policy headlined "US quietly imposes more sanctions on Russia," saying:

It did so "without anyone really knowing about it." It called its report "exclusive."

"In 2013, BIS approved 1,832 export contracts to Russia for so-called dual use products like lasers and explosives…"

"The deals were worth roughly $1.5 billion, $800 million of which was for devices cryptically described as "designed to initiate an energetic charge."

Authorized exports of "defense articles and defense services to Russia" were stopped until further notice. At the time, no announcement was made.

On Thursday, State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf discussed it saying:

"The State Department has also placed a hold on the issuance of licenses that would authorize the export of defense articles and defense services to Russia."

New deals are blocked. Doing so cuts both ways. US producers are affected.

House members overwhelmingly authorized new sanctions on Russian officials. Russophobe Senators Dan Coats (R. IN), John Cornyn (R. TX) and others urged Obama to impose more sanctions, saying.

"We call on you to cancel all existing DoD contracts with Rosoboronexport, as well as any plans for future deals, and impose sanctions to ban contracts with any company that cooperates with Rosoboronexport on military programs."

"Doing so would require our foreign partners to make a choice between America and Putin."

"Rosoboronexport is an arm of the Russian government and a powerful instrument of Vladimir Putin's increasingly belligerent foreign policy, and it handles more than 80 percent of Russia's weapons exports."

Days earlier, Coats introduced a Ukrainian aid bill amendment. It prohibits doing business with Rosoboronexport. It cancels existing contracts and agreements.

Intense Russia bashing continues. It remains to be seen how far things go. Too far risks them spinning out-of-control. Major conflicts start this way.

Meet Obama’s New Ukrainian Friends

Meet Obama's New Ukrainian Friends

by Stephen Lendman

On February 27, 2014, they announced their so-called "Ukrainian government of people's trust."

It includes a rogue's gallery of societal misfits. Many are militant fascists. They're thugs. They're criminals.

They're illegitimate putschists. They're xenophobic, hate-mongering, ultranationalist anti-Semites. Combined they represent mob rule.

They make mafia bosses look saintly by comparison. They threaten world peace. They vowed to fight. They urge NATO intervention.

For the first time since WW II, overt fascists have real power. They hold major government posts.

In December 2012, European parliamentarians expressed concern about "rising nationalistic sentiment in Ukraine, expressed in support for the Svoboda party, which, as a result, is one of the two new parties to enter" Ukraine's parliament.

Their "racist, anti-Semitic, and xenophobic views go against the EU's fundamental values," they said.

Europe's parliament "appeal(ed) to pro-democratic parties in (Ukraine's legislature) not to associate with, endorse, or form coalitions with" these elements.

All is forgiven. EU officials look the other way. They turn a blind eye. They embrace what they denounced months earlier.

They march in lockstep with Washington hardliners. They mock democratic values they claim to support.

Olexander Turchynov serves as illegitimate president. He chairs Ukraine's coup d'etat parliament (its Verkhovna Rada).

He's a politician/economist/screenwriter. He replaced democratically elected Viktor Yanukovych.

He's Ukrainian armed forces commander-in-chief. He's Batkivshchyna/All-Ukrainian Union/Fatherland party deputy chairman.

He was acting prime minister earlier. From March 3 - 11, he served until Mykola Azarov replaced him. He's a wolf in wolf's clothing.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk serves as Ukraine's illegitimate prime minister. On March 12, Obama welcomed him at the White House.

He came to meet his new boss. He did so to get marching orders. He learned more about Obama's plans to rape and pillage Ukraine.

He's super-rich. He's a former central banker/economy/foreign minister and parliament (Verkhovna Rada) speaker.

He's a Batkivshchya/All-Ukrainian Union (Fatherland) leader. He betrayed his people. He sold out for greater wealth and power.

Billionaire mega-thief Yulia Tymoshenko heads it. She was imprisoned for embezzlement and serious "abuse of public office."

Charges included illegally diverting $425 million meant for environmental projects into pension funds. A second case involved stealing around $130 million for personal use.

Putschists freed her. They did so lawlessly. She was an illegitimate Orange Revolution prime minister.

She has presidential aspirations. She may head Ukraine's illegitimate government after sham May elections.

On March 7, the London Independent headlined "Exclusive: UK banks in row over Yulia Tymoshenko 'millions,' " saying:

"...(N)umerous foreign accounts were set up in (her) name (and) her family."

At least 85 bank accounts "containing millions of pounds were linked to (her) and relatives."

It bears repeating. She's a billionaire mega-thief. She accumulated wealth the old-fashioned way. She stole it.

Lawrence Graham is a UK lawyer. In March 2013, Ukraine's legitimate government enlisted him to investigate Tymoshenko's "allegedly misappropriated" wealth.

He reviewed 278 bank accounts in 26 countries. He learned Tymoshenko or family members "were either beneficiaries or signatories to accounts which included a number of UK banks."

They're now closed. At least 13 accounts worldwide remain open. Her lawyer, Sergey Vlasenko, denied reports of foreign accounts, saying:

"She has had no property, no assets, no accounts in USA, UK or Switzerland." He claimed reports otherwise were "falsified." He called them "part of a big dirty propaganda war."

Ukraine's legitimate government hired Graham "to trace more than $200 million (allegedly) siphoned off by Tymoshenko and another former Ukrainian Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko, among others," said The Independent.

From the mid-1990s, the funds "disappeared." They did so when Tymoshenko ran United Energy Systems (UES).

Lazarenko awarded it monopoly rights to import Russian natural gas. In 2004, a US court convicted him of money laundering, theft, and hiding funds in foreign accounts.

His indictment called his crime "part of a conspiracy (related to) receiv(ing) money from companies owned or controlled by Tymoshenko, including United Energy Systems, in exchange for which (he) exercised his official authority in favour of (her) companies."

US prosecutor Martha Moerosch cited "evidence that companies controlled by Tymoshenko took part in the schemes for transferring money to Lazarenko's accounts."

"There were bank statements" proving it, she said. Graham discovered London's NatWest bank involvement. It held 40 million pounds in the name of UES.

Prosecutors found Tymoshenko funds worldwide. Ukrainian analyst Orysia Lutsevych calls her typical of "old generation" Ukrainian politics.

As Orange Revolution prime minister, "she did nothing to reform the economy and establish rule of law," she said.

"Instead, she focused her attention on infighting inside the Orange Revolution in order to prepare her presidential race."

"Most (Euromaidan protesters) were not demanding her release." Her shady business practices earned her the nickname "gas princess."

Ukraine's coup d'etat government is infested with criminal extremists. Obama embraces them.

Yatsenyuk's job is serving Western bankers. Paying them comes first. Ukrainians bear the burden.

Force-fed austerity is planned. IMF larceny features it. Onerous loans come with strings. They assure longterm debt bondage.

Terms demand mass layoffs, huge social benefit cuts, privatizing state enterprises at fire sale prices, letting Western corporations plunder Ukrainian resources freely, and cracking down hard on nonbelievers.

Andriy Parubiy co-founded the ultranationalist neo-Nazi Social National party. It's now called Svoboda. He did so with Oleh Tyahnybok.

Parubiy and Yulia Tymoshenko co-led Washington's 2004 Orange Revolution. He heads Ukraine's National Defense and Security Council.

Right Sector hard right neo-Nazi hate-mongering anti-Semite Dmytro Yarosh is his deputy. He openly boasts about "…fighting Jews and Russians till I die."

He calls Russia Ukraine's "eternal enemy." He said war between both countries is inevitable.

He openly supports Chechen militants. He backed Georgia's 2008 aggression against South Ossetia.

Doku Umarov is Russia's most wanted criminal. Yarosh urged him to terrorize Sochi's Winter Olympics.

He claimed responsibility for attacking Domodedovo airport in 2011 as well as Moscow's 2010 metro bomb incident.

He supports efforts to topple Syria's Assad. He self-appointed himself Russian North Caucasus emir.

Right Sector extremists are the worst of a bad lot of rogues running Ukraine.

They're gun-toting, radicalized terrorists. Imagine them and likeminded scoundrels in charge of Ukraine's government.

Imagine Obama embracing them. Next thing you know he'll call them freedom fighters. They're cold-blooded killers. They believe in barrel-of-a-gun rule.

State terrorism defines their agenda. Anyone opposing them is targeted for elimination. Yarosh has presidential aspirations. Perhaps he intends achieving them one way or another.

Oleh Tyahnybok heads Svoboda. He chose no portfolio after putschists seized power. Perhaps he has greater aspirations in mind. He's a force to be reckoned with.

Unaffiliated Vitaly Yarema is first vice prime minister. He formerly headed Ukraine's Internal Affairs Ministry. His portfolio includes law enforcement.

Svoboda's Oleksandr Sych is one of two lower-level vice prime ministers. Like fellow party members, he's ideologically over-the-top.

Unaffiliated Volodymyr Groysman is Ukraine's other vice prime minister. He's a former deputy prime minister for regional policy as well as regional development, construction, housing and communal services minister.

Batkivshchyna's deputy chairman Pavlo Petrenko is justice minister. He's a politician, jurist and lawyer.

Andrii Deshchytsia is foreign minister. He's a politician and diplomat. He formerly was Ukraine's ambassador to Finland.

Oleksandr Shlapak is finance minister. He's a former economy minister.

Pavlo Sheremeta is economical development and trade minister. Formerly he was Kiev School of Economics president.

Svoboda's Ihor Tenyukh is defense minister. He's Ukraine's former naval commander. Yanukovych sacked him for supporting Kiev putschists.

Batkivshchyna's Arsen Avakov is internal affairs minister. He's a former parliamentarian. He held various administrative posts.

Svoboda's Oleg Makhnitsky is prosecutor-general (Ukraine's attorney general). He's a politician and lawyer.

Six Svoboda members hold top government posts. Others include ecology minister Andriy Mokhnyk and agriculture minister Ihor Shvaika.

Neo-Nazi Ukrainian National Assembly/Ukrainian National Self Defense (UNA-UNSO) members Tetyana Chernoval, Dmytro Bulatov, and Yegor Sobolev hold government portfolios.

Chernoval chairs Kiev's anti-corruption committee. Perhaps she's in charge of dispensing spoils.

Bulatov is youth and sports minister. Sobolev is lustration (mass disqualification) committee chair.

He's charged with purging Yanukovych loyalists. Everyone pro-Russian is targeted. So is anyone left of far right.

Obama's new friends are ideological extremists. Imagine what Ukrainians can expect.

Their agenda makes peace activists cringe. They threaten civil war. Regional war could follow.

It's spurned by supplying Israel, Egyptian putschists and other rogue governments with military and financial aid.

The 1961 Foreign Assistance Act (FAA) and 1976 Arms Export Control Act (AECA) prohibit doing so.

AECA permits military related sales only for defense or internal security. FAA forbids aiding governments that engage:

"in a consistent pattern of gross violations of internationally recognized human rights, including torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment, prolonged detention without charges, causing the disappearance of persons by the abduction and clandestine detention of those persons, or other flagrant denial of the right to life, liberty, and the security of person, unless such assistance will directly benefit the needy people in such country."

The 2001 Foreign Operations Appropriations Act's (FOAA) Leahy Law provision states:

"None of the funds made available by this Act may be used to support any training program involving a unit of the security forces of a foreign country if the Secretary of Defense has received credible information from the Department of State that a member of such unit has committed a gross violation of human rights, unless all necessary corrective steps have been taken."

FOAA prohibits funding foreign security forces that commit gross human rights violations unless its government "is taking effective measures to bring the responsible members of the security forces unit to justice."

Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and numerous other rogue state US allies commit the worst of high crimes against peace and humanity.

It doesn't matter. They're close US allies. They receive generous support.

FAA prohibits giving all forms of aid to putschist regimes. Obama pledged $1 billion in loan guarantees. Doing so violates US law.

It doesn't matter. Washington does what it wants. Russia's Foreign Ministry commented, saying:

According to US law, FAA prohibits aiding " 'the government of any country whose whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree.' "

"Thus, by all criteria, the provision of funds to the illegitimate (Kiev) regime, which seized power by force, is unlawful and goes beyond the boundaries of the US legal system."

"The US administration will most probably continue to close its eyes on the dominance of the ultranationalist forces in Kiev, which have launched a hunt for dissidents across the country, increasing pressure on the Russian-speaking population and our compatriots, threatening the people in the Crimea with punishment for their desire for self-determination."

Neo-Nazi putschists threaten all Ukrainians. Ruthless hardline rule runs things. Fascists tolerate no opposition. State terrorism targets outliers. Darker than ever dark times loom.

Dueling East/West Agendas on Ukraine

Dueling East/West Agendas on Ukraine

by Stephen Lendman

Washington's Ukrainian agenda is polar opposite Moscow's. It's irresponsible. It's unjustifiable. It's typical our way or else posturing.

Reports suggest it's in two parts. It calls for Moscow to halt Crimean annexation efforts.

It wants demobilization of legitimately deployed Russian troops related to its Black Sea Fleet as well as Crimea's self-defense force.

It wants a so-called contact group established. Included would be Washington, representatives of EU nations, Russia and Ukraine's illegitimate Kiev government.

It wants sham May 25 elections endorsed. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said:

"We want a cessation of Russian military activities in Ukraine. We want to see an end to the annexation of Crimea. I don't think it's a secret of what we're talking about here."

Russia rejects Kiev's illegitimate government. "How can we come up with a mechanism for the Russians and the Ukrainians to talk," asked Psaki?

"Obviously, the Russians haven't agreed to that or we'd be having those discussions now."

On Saturday, a State Department official commented on John Kerry's phone discussion with Sergei Lavrov, saying:

"He made clear that continued military escalation and provocation in Crimea or elsewhere in Ukraine, along with steps to annex Crimea to Russia would close any available space for diplomacy, and he urged utmost restraint."

On Saturday, Obama spoke with Britain's David Cameron, France's Francois Hollande, Italy's Matteo Renzi, as well as presidents Berzins, Grybauskaite and Ives of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia respectively.

An Office of the Press Secretary statement followed, saying:

"Obama welcomed the strong, unified stance of the United States and the European Union regarding Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine, including in the conclusions of the March 6 European Council."

"The leaders reiterated their grave concern over Russia's clear violation of international law and reaffirmed their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity."

"He told Baltic country leaders of Washington's "unwavering commitment to our collective defense commitments under the North Atlantic Treaty and our enduring support for the security and democracy of our Baltic allies."

"All of the leaders agreed on the need for Russia to pull its military forces back to their bases, allow for the deployment of international observers and human rights monitors to the Crimean peninsula, and agree quickly on the formation of a contact group that could lead to direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia to de-escalate the situation and restore Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity."

"The leaders rejected the proposed referendum in Crimea as a violation of Ukraine’s constitution and underscored that all decisions about the future of Ukraine must include the government in Kiev."

"The leaders made clear that Russia’s continued violation of international law will isolate it from the international community."

"They also discussed the need for the international community to provide strong support to the government of Ukraine as it works to stabilize its economy and prepares for elections in May."

Moscow rejects Washington's proposal. It wants Kiev putschists declared illegitimate. It takes the "situation created by the coup as a starting point," Lavrov stressed.

He said Russia's Security Council prepared its own. Moscow wants international law respected.

It wants all Ukrainians treated equitably, fairly and justly. "We are not just passively receiving proposals from our colleagues," said Lavrov.

"We have prepared our own," he added. "The idea is to bring the situation back into the framework of international law with due account taken of the interests of all Ukrainians without exception, given the current deep state crisis in that country."

"The US Secretary of State John Kerry last Friday handed me the paper that I have already made public." It "raises many questions."

"There is a concept in this document that we are not quite happy with, because everything has been formulated as though there is some kind of conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as though we admit certain facts really exist."

On March 6, Obama's Executive Order "Block(ed) Property of Certain Persons Contributing to the Situation in Ukraine."

It includes what he calls "military intervention in Crimea." His action doesn't preclude further steps. Expect more to follow.

On Sunday, Deputy National Security Advisor Tony Blinken issued a statement saying:

"First, if there is an annexation of Crimea, a referendum that moves Crimea from Ukraine to Russia, we won't recognize it, nor will most of the world."

"Second, the pressure that we've already exerted in coordination with our partners and allies will go up."

"The president made it very clear in announcing our sanctions, as did the Europeans the other day, that this is the first step and we've put in place a very flexible and very tough mechanism to increase the pressure, to increase the sanctions."

Former US Russian ambassador Michael McFaul said annexation will "isolate Russia from the rest of the world for years to come, maybe even decades to come."

Hardball is longstanding US policy. Bullying is standard practice. Rule of law principles don't matter. Washington rules alone apply.

Russia won't roll over for America. It didn't invade Crimea. It's going all-out to protect its legitimate interests. It has every right to do so.

Putin was unequivocal calling what happened in Kiev "an anti-constitutional takeover, an armed seizure of power."

He wants "fratricidal war for the sake of peace (stopped), for the sake of justice and for the sake of Ukraine's future."

He addressed Crimea. He denounced claims of deployed Russian forces. None were sent besides those legally related to its Black Sea Fleet.

"So far, there is no need for (them), but the possibility remains" to protect Russian nationals if necessary, he said.

His biggest concern is "rampag(ing) reactionary forces, nationalist and anti-Semitic forces going on in certain parts of Ukraine, including Kiev."

They "chained and handcuffed" an eastern Ukraine governor. They "poured water over him in the cold of winter."

"After that, by the way, he was locked up in a cellar and tortured. What is all this about? Is this democracy? Is this some manifestation of democracy?"

Compare Crimea to out-of-control Kiev violence, he said. Compare democracy to neo-Nazi putschists seizing power. Russia hasn't interfered in Ukraine's internal affairs, he stressed.

"(W)e firmly believe that all citizens of Ukraine, I repeat, wherever they live, should be given the same equal right to participate in the life of their country and in determining its future."

Crimeans have the same right as other Ukrainians, he said. Moscow supports them.

"Putin underlined in particular that the steps taken by Crimea's legitimate authorities are based on international law and aimed at guaranteeing the legitimate interests of the peninsula's population," an official Kremlin statement added.

"We are often told our actions are illegitimate," Putin said. No one explains how responsibly.

Contrast Russia to America's lawless aggression. He cited Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. He omitted numerous other examples.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said European sanctions could be imposed next week if Moscow doesn't accept Western proposals.

"If they respond positively, John Kerry will go to Moscow and then sanctions will not be immediate," he said.

"If they do not respond or if they respond negatively, there will be a series of sanctions that could be taken as early as this week."

On Tuesday, Western officials met in London. Asset freezes and travel bans on targeted Russian officials were discussed.

Last week, visa talks were suspended. So was halting negotiations on a new EU/Russian investment agreement. An arms embargo and trade sanctions could follow.

Washington threatened to expel Russia from G-8 participation. Other harsh measures were suggested.

EU/Russian trade is nearly half a trillion dollars annually. Targeting Moscow cuts both ways. Will EU leaders shoot themselves in the foot? Will they harm their own interests?

Energy is a major issue. Europe is heavily dependent on Russian resources. Gazprom supplies Ukraine with over half its gas.

Europe gets 40% from Russia. Germany gets one-third of its oil and gas from this vital source. It remains to be seen where realpolitik overrides bluster.

Ukraine's illegitimate Foreign Minister Andrii Deshchytsya's hyperbole matches his Western counterparts.

We are practically in a state of war with Russia, he claimed. "We have to cope with an aggression that we do not understand."

Russia's Foreign Ministry denounced Right Sector neo-Nazi lawlessness. Its elements "now rule in eastern regions of Ukraine as a result of the actions of fighters of (its) fighters..with the full connivance" of Kiev putschists," it said.

"The shamefaced silence of our Western partners, human rights organizations and foreign media is surprising."

"It raises the question - where is the notorious objectivity and commitment to democracy?"

Russian citizens trying to enter Ukraine are blocked. Independent media voices are silenced. Kiev putschists want their message alone heard.

Washington plans provocative Black Sea drills with Bulgaria and Romania. Imagine if Russia or China held their own in America's Gulf.

US controlled NATO announced AWACS reconnaissance flights over Poland and Romania to monitor conditions in Ukraine.

Washington is waging geopolitical war on Russia. It wants it weakened and isolated.

It wants what remains of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) eliminated. It wants control over all former Soviet republics and Warsaw Pact countries. It wants them incorporated into NATO.

It wants new eastern European military bases established. It wants them targeting Russia and China.

It wants long-range multiple nuclear warhead-armed missiles targeting their heartlands.

It's playing with fire. It risks global conflict. It risks the unthinkable. Hegemons operate this way. America is by far the most dangerous in world history. Rogue elements make policy.

Obama’s Ukrainian Power Grab, Sanctions and the Boomerang Effect

Prof. James Petras In the biggest power grab since George Bush seized Eastern Europe and converted it into a NATO bastion confronting Russia, the Obama...

Yatsenyuk Comes to Washington

Yatsenyuk Comes to Washington

by Stephen Lendman

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland calls him Yats. He's coming to Washington.

He'll arrive on Wednesday. He'll meet his new boss. He'll do so at the White House. He'll get marching orders. He'll learn more about Obama's plans for Ukraine. More on his visit below.

He's Ukraine's illegitimate prime minister. He serves its xenophobic, ultranationalist, neo-Nazi, hate-mongering, anti-Semitic, coup d'etat regime. A rogue's gallery of societal misfits runs it.

He's a natural. He's super-rich. He's a former central banker/economy/foreign minister and parliament (Verkhovna Rada) speaker.

He betrayed his people. He sold out for greater wealth and power. He's a Batkivshchya/All-Ukrainian Union (Fatherland) leader.

She was an illegimate Orange Revolution prime minister.

She has presidential aspirations. She may head Ukraine's illegitimate government after sham May elections.

Yatsenyuk's job is serving Western bankers. Paying them comes first. Ukrainians bear the burden.

Force-fed austerity is planned. IMF larceny features it. Harder than ever hard times loom.

Ukraine heads toward becoming another Greece. One zombie country will replicate another. Economic crisis conditions already exist. Plans call for tougher times on the backs of ordinary people.

Inflation alone harms them. Since January, Ukraine's currency (the hryvnia) declined 20%. Everything imported costs more.

Capital flight hammered Ukraine's foreign exchange. It's down to about $12 billion or less. It's dwindling at the rate of about $4 billion a week. It won't last the month without aid.

It's needed. It comes with onerous strings. It includes longterm debt entrapment.

Getting it demands mass layoffs, huge social benefit cuts, privatizing state enterprises at fire sale prices, and letting Western corporations plunder Ukrainian resources freely.

Economist Jack Rasmus believes Ukraine's currency collapse is virtually certain. At least $20 billion in aid may be needed "well before May 1," he said.

Ukraine's current debt is about $80 billion. By summer, it'll top $100 billion, says Rasmus.

Deepening black hole indebtedness entraps Ukraine. No end to its financial crisis looms.

It bears repeating. Ordinary people will bear the burden. Disaster awaits them. Greater than ever basket case conditions are certain.

According to Rasmus, Ukrainian aid won't come in amounts needed. Nothing beyond "superficial promises and token" short-run injections ahead of May elections.

Longer-term watch out. Ukraine's economy will be much worse off than now. It's currency will be near-worthless. Rampant inflation will destroy it.

Lost social benefits will create enormous pain and suffering. Western bankers and other corporate predators "will have a field day," says Rasmus.

They'll buy up everything in sight on the cheap. They'll rape and pillage Ukraine freely. They'll steal its resources. They'll exploit its people.

They'll operate freely for bottom line interests. They'll turn Ukraine into a dystopian wasteland.

Ukrainians have a rude awakening coming. They don't know what's planned. Wait until they lose pensions, other social benefits, and vital subsidies needed to offset high oil, gas and food prices.

Wait until they'll left high and dry on their own. Ukraine is one of Europe's poorest countries. Western diktats assure harder than ever hard times.

On Sunday, Yatsenyuk announced plans to visit Washington. "I am going to the United states to hold top-level meetings on resolving the situation unfolding in our bilateral and multilateral relations," he said.

He announced it a day after vowing never to give up "a centimeter" of Ukraine to Russia.

"This is our land," he said. "Our fathers and grandfathers have spilled their blood for this land."

"And we won't budge a single centimeter from (it). Let Russia and its president know this."

On March 9, a "Statement by the (White House) Press Secretary on the Visit of Prime Minister Yaysenyuk of Ukraine" said:

"President Obama will welcome Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk of Ukraine to the White House on March 12."

"The visit will highlight the strong support of the United States for the people of Ukraine, who have demonstrated inspiring courage and resilience through recent times of crisis."

"The President and Prime Minister Yatsenyuk will discuss how to find a peaceful resolution to Russia's ongoing military intervention in Crimea that would respect Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity."

"They will also discuss support the international community can provide to help Ukraine confront its economic challenges, and the importance of uniting Ukraine and working to fulfill the aspirations of the Ukrainian people as they prepare for May presidential elections."

Deputy national security advisor Tony Blinken added:

"What we've seen is (Obama) mobilizing the international community in support of Ukraine to isolate Russia for its actions in Ukraine, and to reassure our allies and partners."

Fact check

Washington plans call for:

  • destroying Ukrainian sovereignty;

  • controlling its regime;

  • plundering its resources;

  • exploiting its people;

  • incorporating it into NATO;

  • establishing new US bases; and

  • installing long-range nuclear-armed missiles along its 1,400 km border with Russia targeting its heartland.

Obama bears full responsibility for installing Ukrainian putschists in power. EU partners share it. Regime change plans were hatched in Washington and Brussels.

Russia didn't invade Crimea. Claims otherwise don't wash. No military intervention occurred.

Washington spurns Ukrainian sovereignty and integrity. Russia respects what Western countries disdain.

US officials and Yatsenyuk will discuss plans to rape and pillage Ukraine. Aspirations of its people don't matter. Exploiting them to pay bankers looms.

They'll have no say in upcoming elections. Power brokers will decide things. America works the same way.

Monied interests alone matter. They have big plans for Ukraine. Carving it up for profit looms.

Yatsenyuk lied claiming Russia invaded Ukraine. He called it "a declaration of war." Ukraine is on the verge of "disaster," he added. Policies he has in mind assure it.

On Monday, Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov said preparations to join Russia are well under way.

On March 16, Crimeans will decide by referendum. Public sentiment strongly favors it.

Aksyonov said Russian law will be instituted within about two months. Its ruble will replace Ukraine's hryvnia.

Russian will be the official language. Tartar community members were promised senior positions in a new Crimean government.

Crimea's Supreme Council chairman Vladimir Konstantinov said polls show "over 80%" of Crimeans favor "accession to Russia."

Weeks earlier it was 75%, he added. He attributed sentiment increase to actions by Kiev putschists.

Itar Tass said Sevastapol made Russian its official language. Over 70% of its residents speak it. Administration chief Dmitry Belik signed a resolution stating:

"In line with norms of international law, taking into account that the Russian language is native for the overwhelming majority of the city’s population, the Sevastopol city state administration rules to use it as the official language in all state document circulation."

Pro-Russian sentiment is strong throughout much of eastern and southern Ukraine. Public demonstrations express it.

Kiev putschists target them. Russia's Foreign Ministry expressed outrage. It issued a statement denouncing "actions of militants of the so-called Right Sector amid utter connivance of the new authorities as they call themselves."

"Things have come to such a point that on March 8, well-equipped people in masks and with firearms opened fire at peaceful protestors in Kharkiv," he added.

"People have been injured. The Dnipropetrovsk police have detained seven Russian reporters and attributed it to the fact that they were interested solely in 'certain provocative subjects.' "

Press freedom is targeted. It's comprised. It's denied. Kiev fascists won't tolerate it. They want their message alone getting out.

They "do not allow Russian citizens into Ukraine in violation of all existing bilateral agreements, virtually having blocked border cooperation."

"The shy silence of our Western partners, human rights organizations and foreign mass media outlets is surprising."

"A question emerges - where is the notorious objectivity and commitment to democracy?"

High-minded Western hypocrites are nowhere in sight. Russia rejects illegitimate Kiev putschists. Putin respects the right of Crimeans to decide their own future.

On Sunday, he discussed ongoing Ukrainian events with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron.

A Kremlin press service statement said:

Putin "underlined in particular that the steps taken by Crimea's legitimate authorities are based on international law and aimed at guaranteeing the legitimate interests of the peninsula's population."

He expressed concern about illegitimate Kiev putschists. They escalated pressure on Crimea.

They blocked its treasury's electronic system. They froze its accounts. They increased security forces on its borders.

Crimean Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Temirgaliyev reacted saying actions taken won't affect planned policies.

Russian accounts are being opened. Frozen ones won't be used.

On Saturday, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin in charge of defense expressed alarm over US/NATO "overt threats."

On Facebook, he said:

"A hope that after the overt threats by the US and NATO, nobody will doubt the necessity of rearming our army and fleet and of reviving our defense industry and military science."

His comment followed Washington threatening sanctions, suspending military exchanges, deploying additional warplanes to the region, and showing the flag in the Black Sea.

Neocons infesting Washington threaten world peace. Russia knows forewarned is forearmed to act defensively.

A Final Comment

Media scoundrel Russia bashing continues relentlessly. Jim Thomas is Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments vice president and director of studies.

It's a hard-right think tank. It specializes in US defense policy. Neocon former CIA head James Woolsey is a board member. So are likeminded ideologues.

Wall Street Journal editors gave Thomas featured op-ed space. He took full advantage headlining "How to Put Military Pressure on Russia."

He lied claiming Russia seized Crimea. He called it "a wake-up call for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization."

He said the "absence of serious thinking about (its) territorial defense mission...prov(ed) catnip for Vladimir Putin."

It bears repeating what previous articles stressed. NATO is a killing machine. Its mission is offense, not defense. Don't expect right-wing ideologues like Thomas to explain.

He urges hardball tactics. "Sanctions, skipping the G-8 summit in Sochi, hitting Russian oligarchs in their pocketbooks, isolating Russia in international forums - all these options are legitimate responses to Mr. Putin's land grab in the sovereign state of Ukraine.

Washington and complicit EU partners alone bear full responsibility for land-grabbing. Doing so created the greatest geopolitical crisis since WW II. Their recklessness threatens global war.

Toughness Thomas urges perhaps makes it more possible. He recommended more lunatic fringe ideas.

Abandon NATO's 1997 NATO-Russia so-called Three Nos, he said. They were "shorthand" for NATO declaring "no intentions, no plans, and no reason" to station nuclear forces in new member states.

Thomas urges doing it. He wants nuclear missiles on Russia's borders. He wants them targeting it heartland.

He wants what no responsible official would contemplate. He may get what he wants.

He wants Polish warplanes "capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons so they could participate in NATO's nuclear mission."

He wants nuclear weapons positioned in locations close to Russia's borders. He wants greater NATO "conventional force" regional deployments.

"The time has come for the US and other NATO allies to consider permanently stationing forces in Poland and Romania as well as the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to back up their words of strategic solidarity," he said.

He wants NATO providing Ukraine with military aid - "especially if Russia escalates the crisis in Crimea or deploys its forces into other eastern Ukrainian provinces."

He wants stepped up action to oust Syria's Assad. He wants heavy-handed US/EU reprisals against Russia overall.

He wants Moscow treated as a strategic enemy. It's time to act aggressively, he urges.

Imagine giving feature op-ed space to this type lunacy. Don't ask Journal editors to explain.

Ukraine Is About Death Of The Dollar (Videos)

By Susan Duclos - Originally posted at Before It's News

"Those wild and crazy Mayans put down their marker that the end of the world would occur on Dec. 21, 2012 — about two months from now. There is, of course, some small chance that they might be right. On the other hand, there is a very large probability that the real end of the world will occur around March 4, 2014.

The doomsday clock will ring then because the U.S. economy may fully crash around that date, which will, in turn, bring down all world economies and all hope of any recovery for the foreseeable future — certainly over the course of most of our lifetimes." - Grady Means, October 2012

It is March 2014 and before detractors claim that March 4, 2014 is the predicted date, please note that in the quote it says "around that date" in the quote above, not predicting the actual date.

Which leads to an excellent article over at OmegaShock, who notes as I show in the first video below, that in 2011 and Obama official made it clear the goal was to "kill the dollar," and just over a year ago, Doug Hagmann of the Hagmann and Hagmann Report also connected the dots about the killing of the US dollar.

Both those videos will be shown below mine so everyone can see how everything that is happening today was planned and orchestrated.

Before they ever started down this road, the US State Department and the alphabet agencies of North America and Europe knew that nothing of long term significance would occur in Kiev. They knew that any pro-EU coup would be temporary. They knew that Russia would move to solidify her presence in Crimea. They knew that far-right groups would muscle their way into this Ukrainian Revolution. They knew that Ukraine would be thrown into turmoil and cause further damage to an already damaged country. And… They knew that there would be no strategic gain to the EU or the US.
So, why did they do this?
Why did they invest several billion dollars in an activity that could only fail?
The answer is that it’s not going to fail because Ukraine is only a diversion – a misdirection. To quote Penn & Teller, it’s purpose is to lead attention away from a secret move. The next question is…
What is this ‘secret move’ that they do not want us to see?

The answer?

Killing the US dollar... total, imminent, economic collapse.

All eyes are on Ukraine, the US destabilizing the Ukraine, Russia moving to protect their interests in the Crimea region and by the time all eyes start looking around again, the dollar will be dead, the economy near total collapse and Obama will have everything in place to declare martial law.

Watch all three videos and see if you agree.

Details from the video below:

From Doug Hagmann of Canada Free Press comes a chilling account of what's in store for us if we continue to ignore the bare-faced warnings of the central power base..

Some might be surprised to learn that the fate of America's economy has already been determined, verified and announced by the Obama White House. Yet, it has received scant attention from the corporate media. In 2011, economist Kyle Bass interviewed a senior member of the Obama administration about its planned solutions for fixing the US economy and trade deficit[ia].

Among the questions he asked was about U.S. exports and wages, but the question itself was not nearly as important as the response he received from this senior administration official. In fact, this single, seven word response clarifies everything, explains everything, and leaves little else to discuss: "We're just going to kill

Why Should I Care About the Situation in the Ukraine?

By Clark Hay

Why should I care about the situation in the Ukraine? Good question! Glad you asked.
Here’s a quick overview:
Although the Ukraine used to be under the control of Russia, the rather internally divided multi-ethnic country broke away and achieved its tenuous independence in 1990. Since that time there have been 5 president (including today’s interim president Oleksandr Turchynov), and 15 Prime Ministers (including today’s incumbent Arseniy Yatsenyuk).

While a treaty (“The Budapest Memorandum”) signed in 1994 by the US and Britain has a remote chance of pulling the UK and the US into the regional ongoing conflict of the Ukraine, it is doubtful that things would escalate that far without a direct assault on the U.K. or the U.S.

The EU has relied upon 25% of its oil and natural gas coming through the Ukraine – so in many ways it has wanted to tread lightly in that country and has been working towards pulling it into the EU as a partner with many incentives by the IMF which has offered financial assistance in the face of mounting economic woes. Without that oil and gas, Europe will suffer. The problem is, however, the same is true for Russia. If the Ukraine becomes allied with the EU then Russia would become a paying importer of oil rather than an exporter. In addition, the Ukraine is a virtual breadbasket for Russia – with fertile farm lands producing much needed food supplies.

On top of that is the involvement of the international banking cartel (IMF/BIS) and groups working with the CIA to stir up anti-Russian sentiments in the Ukraine and bolster support for the globalists of the E.U.

From 2005 to 2010 Viktor Yushchenko was Ukraine’s pro-EU President who in 1993 was appointed Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine (Ukraine's central bank), which pleased the globalist central bankers.

Pro Russian Viktor Yanukovych replaced Yushchenko, and he recently rejected a bid by the EU’s IMF to help bail out the country’s flagging economy in favor of a Russian bailout. This pleased Russia, but Yushchenko’s corruption and theft of government money helped sway public opinion against him – assisted by CIA operatives help to stir up anti-Russian sentiments. Over the last week he appears to have fled the country and has been replaced by an interim “president”.

The current interim president is Oleksandr Turchynov, another pro-European pawn in this lethal game of regional chess. The new prime minister of the Ukraine is millionaire and former banker Arseniy Yatsenyuk who is all but in the hip pocket of the IMF and the Central Bankers. So both of the men in charge are pro-European stooges of the Western globalists and that connection is a perceived and likely very real threat to Russia’s interests. Rumors of neo-Nazi affiliations are spreading and may likely be true.

Another Russian interest in the Ukraine is the very strategic Russian naval base in Crimea – a peninsula of the Ukraine in the Black Sea. Anything or anyone who might threaten access to the services rendered by that port would be viewed by Russia as a very real threat! The CIA, and related pro-Western covert forces, have very much been meddling in the Ukraine to stir up anti-Russian sentiments in those areas not so heavily dominated by a Russian populace. Russia, of course, is not taking this lying down and has sent in troops and stationed more along the borders.

But it is more than even that. Russia and China both have different ideas from the Western powers about what constitutes the best globalist vision of a New World Order. Russia and China both believe they should be free to either reign supreme or at least be equal yet independent partners in this Brave New World Order. They really don’t like the idea of yet another form of UN, G20, G8 or even G6 form of global governance, or of being subservient or accountable to anyone else.

The Bible presents a similar picture of the Western EU powers allied with the coming antichrist, having opposition both from a power from far the North (Russia), and a very sizable group allied with the Rulers of the East (China – said to have a standing army of at least 200,000,000 soldiers – which was achieved and exceeded by China many years ago).

Don’t be surprised if all of this further alienates Russia from the Western powers and becomes yet another bone of contention. Also, do not be surprised if it results in a civil war that bleeds into the EU itself – and into other countries via terrorist activities from any and all sides.

War and conflicts and chaos, I must remind you, are a great way to rally the people of every faction to their particular causes and it takes our eyes off who the real criminals are in all of this. Conflicts such as this are a great money making deal for the corporate war machines and investors of both sides of the conflict, it is also a distraction of the masses from all the other ills we face, and it furthers the neo-eugenic program of the űber elite to eliminate more “useless eaters”. A win-win situation for those who have globalist goals of managing the ignorant masses.

Big oil and big money during harsh winters and fragile economies can bring about surprising things. Sabotage seems a popular way to make a point. Economic sanctions have ways of blowing up – sometimes literally. Political divides and animosities generally increase as do socio-economic problems and ethnic violence.

Interconnected economies are perhaps at their most fragile stage right now. A downturn in any area could have a cascading effect – and the same is true of random terrorist or para-military actions or state military actions. And, the return of the cold-war era is always a threat – with Russian vessels already off our coast and docked in Cuba.

The economic and political landscape hinted at in the Bible is one where America is not even mentioned (for whatever reason), Russia and China somewhat oppose the European globalists, and hostilities in the Middle East escalate.

In a world of extremists and globally interconnected volatile/fragile economies with multiple flash points, the events of Crimea and Ukraine become just another trigger for continued global unrest and suffering.

Historically, whenever economies take a serious downturn, unrest conflict and war magically seem to follow. There are many powerful people/corporations/movements who love to meddle and take advantage of such times. A global economic reset/”correction”/collapse is inevitable, so political and civil unrest and regional unrest cannot be far behind.

The “big boys” behind the scenes are already licking their chops – they smell blood in the water and can almost taste the sweet success of bringing their New World Order out of the ensuing chaos. Argentina, Venezuela, Greece, Cyprus, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan (etc.) have merely been trial runs for what is ahead.

In the States it has been even easier for them, no real violence or public protests to worry with – even with their trial run of a complete military shut down (imposition of martial law) in Boston, with door to door searches for just 2 handpicked stooges.

What happens to America in the interim is anybody’s guess.

  • ·         A retreat to protectionism and disengagement from being the world’s policeman?
  • ·         Economic collapse and civil war and martial law?
  • ·         Major terrorist attacks (foreign or domestic) on nuclear facilities or power grids?
  • ·         Major catastrophes like an EMP, or pandemic, or earthquakes, volcanic eruption (as may be the case in Yellowstone)?
  • ·         Or perhaps a total political collapse as states rebel and leaders exposed lose public trust and we fragment into troubled regions? …

Your guess is as good as mine, but I suspect a combination of the above could turn us into a banana republic almost overnight. We seem to have been headed in that direction for some time now.

So, will there be any US military involvement in the Ukraine? … Mmmmm, I doubt it. Maybe an ineffectual presence of NATO or UN troops in the region, and much empty rhetoric and sword rattling, and the drawing meaningless lines in the sand, but actual intervention? I truly doubt it. I think we’re saving up all that conflict for the coup de grâce of a Middle Eastern Armageddon – probably less than a decade down the road.

Between now and then, don’t forget to start stocking up on food and water and necessary supplies, just in case things start unraveling much sooner than most people think. Too many triggers are in the hands of too many sociopaths to think we live in a safe or sane world – we don’t.

Should we care what is happening in the Ukraine? Absolutely! What happens there will have a profound impact of US/EU/Soviet relations – and the chaos there can have dire ripple effects across the board. Don’t think we are immune from the fall out here in the U.S. – we’re not immune at all. 9-11 should have proven that to you, and it looks like chaos and uncertainties and instability will become the new norm for a while – at least until the powers that be divide up their realms and prepare for the coming Armageddon.

Even so, come Lord Jesus.

Stay alert, informed, prepared, and safe.

Best regards,
