As someone who has been close to the whole affair, I can say that if you take Wayne Madsen's writings at face-value, you're skating on thin-ice. The same goes for believing the defendant and the prosecution--they're both lying for various reasons. It would be utterly irrelevant if Vice President Cheney were in the records--how would it change our already rock-bottom views of him? He's guilty of war crimes, so how is sex with prostitutes going to change anything?

While it's true that the case is being handled with kid-gloves to avoid the unwanted accountability for what can be assumed are numerous politicos, incumbents, lobbyists, appointed officials, military officers, etc., I have to say that the government's and Palfrey's assertions that $2 million was made over 13 years at a charge of between $275-$300 USD (when it was still worth something!) is a patently absurd contention.

Ms. Palfrey and the prosecution know this to be a fact, and it is likely that $2 million laundered American dollars is all the Justice Department could get her on. Do the math: we're talking about tens-of-millions of dollars made. Look at all the properties she owns, all the stocks she owns--it just doesn't gel at all, as much as we'd all love to down dozens of dirty politicians.

Having researched her phone records extensively, I can tell you that there is likely a sold-connection between her scandal and lobbying scandals in the American Congress, namely in the Cunningham scandal (and others, considering the years covered), with primary participation of Brent Wilkes and others. One should be asking the question of whether Ms. Palfrey has associated with Mr. Wilkes and possibly even Thomas Kontogiannis, a man referred to by some as a "CIA money-launderer."

For those of us who have had close-proximity, writing the whole way along, your inclusion of anything by Wayne Madsen is amusing and extremely wrong-headed--and frankly--incredibly lazy. You really should drop his links, it's not doing your site's credibility any good. He is a rumor-monger who never names his sources, something you should all know by now. His credibility is virtually nil.

One could say the same about the prosecution and the accused as well. Perhaps she isn't as bad as the people accusing her--that's for history to decide if anyone cares when it's over--but my own guess is that the money-laundering charges are going to stick regardless of whether prostitution occurred or not. Prostitution's not the issue, ironically.

Will we know the truth after the conclusion of the trial? It begins on April 7th, and God only knows when it will conclude. Think what you want about Palfrey, but there is a goldmine to be found in the phone records. There are patterns in there that suggest an entire infrastructure of sex and gifts as rewards has been uncovered, fueled on graft and bribes to secure those coveted government contracts--especially Defense Department ones. Palfrey was just one player amongst many, and small-time. Two-words: Shirlington Limousine. Two more: Christopher D. Baker.

David Vitter allowed to skate for patronizing prostitutes in two states and is still a US Senator. Oh, I just remembered-- he is a Republican and hypocrisy is allowed and whoring is condoned for the sake of the party.
