Olmert urged to stand down over corruption claims وحثت اولمرت على التنحي اكثر من المطالبات الفساد
By بواسطة Donald Macintyre دونالد macintyre | The Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s most powerful coalition partner has called on him to step aside in the face of widespread anger at allegations that he had repeatedly received envelopes stuffed with cash from a US businessman. | رئيس الوزراء الاسرائيلي ايهود اولمرت اقوى شريك الائتلاف دعا اليه ان يتنحى في مواجهة الغضب على نطاق واسع في الادعاءات مرارا وتكرارا انه تلقى المظاريف نقديه محشو مع رجل اعمال من الولايات المتحدة.
In the wake of testimony by the businessman Morris Talansky that he had personally handed over $150,000 (£76,000) for Mr Olmert during a period of some 15 years, the Defence Minister and Labour Party leader Ehud Barak urged the Prime Minister to leave office – either permanently or for as long as the police investigation against him continues. فى اعقاب شهادة من رجل الاعمال موريس talansky انه شخصيا بتسليم مبلغ 150000) جنيه استرليني 76000) للسيد اولمرت خلال فترة ما يقرب من 15 عاما ، وزير الدفاع ورئيس حزب العمل ايهود باراك رئيس الوزراء حث على مغادرة مكتب -- إما بصفة دائمة او لطالما ان الشرطة تواصل التحقيق ضده.
But while Mr Barak’s intervention triggered potentially the most serious threat yet to Mr Olmert’s political survival, it did not come with a deadline. ولكن في حين ان السيد باراك التي يحتمل ان تسبب التدخل اخطر تهديد حتى الآن الى السيد اولمرت السياسى فى البقاء على قيد الحياة ، إنها لا تأتي مع موعد نهائي. Nor did it shake Mr Olmert’s apparent determination to stay in office until or unless he is formally indicted. كما انه لم يهز السيد أولمرت واضحا تصميمه على البقاء في مناصبهم الى حين او ما لم يكن رسميا لوائح اتهام.
Mr Barak called on Mr Olmert to release the reins of government “through [self-] suspension, vacation, resignation or declaring himself incapacitated” and warned that he would trigger elections if the Prime Minister did not stand down or was not replaced by his colleagues in the ruling Kadima party. السيد علي السيد باراك دعا أولمرت الى الافراج عن مقاليد الحكم "من خلال [الذاتية] تعليق ، واجازة أو الاستقالة ، او يعلن نفسه غير قادر" وحذر من انه اذا كان من شأنه ان يؤدي الى انتخابات رئيس الوزراء لم التنحي او لم يكن الاستعاضه عن زملائه في حزب كاديما الحاكم.
Saying that Mr Olmert could not at once “deal with the challenges facing Israel, such as Hamas, Hizbollah, Syria, Iran and the captive soldiers” and at the same time handle “his own affairs”, he added: “Therefore, acting out of concern for the good of the country… I believe the Prime Minister must disconnect himself from the day-to-day running of the government.” وقال ان السيد أولمرت لا يمكن دفعة واحدة "التعامل مع التحديات التي تواجهها اسرائيل ، مثل حماس وحزب الله وسوريا وايران والجنود الاسرى" في الوقت ذاته الى معالجة "شؤون بلده" ، واضاف : "ولذلك ، يتصرف بها للقلق لما فيه خير البلاد… واعتقد ان رئيس الوزراء يجب ان قطع نفسه من اليوميه لادارة الحكومة. "
According to a survey in the daily newspaper Haaretz, 70 per cent of those polled – and 51 percent of voters in Kadima – do not believe Mr Olmert’s version that the money he received from the American businessman went only for his election campaigns. ووفقا لدراسة استقصاءيه صحيفة يومية في صحيفة هآرتس ، 70 فى المائة من الذين شملهم الاستطلاع -- و 51 في المئة من الناخبين في كاديما -- لا اعتقد ان السيد أولمرت أن النسخه المال الذي حصل عليه من رجل الاعمال الامريكى فقط ذهب لانتخابه الحملات.
Mr Barak launched his intervention at a news conference in the Knesset building after Mr Talansky’s testimony – dismissed as “twisted” by Mr Olmert’s lawyers – appeared to contradict the Prime Minister’s insistence that he had not benefited personally from any payments made to him over the period under investigation. السيد باراك بدأ مداخلته في مؤتمر صحافي في مبنى الكنيست بعد شهادة السيد talansky -- رفضت "الملتويه" السيد أولمرت محامي -- يبدو متناقضا مع رئيس الوزراء اصرار انه شخصيا لم تستفد من أي مدفوعات قدمت اليه خلال الفترة قيد التحقيق.
Mr Olmert’s aide, Tal Zilberstein, told Israeli television “the press conference changed nothing”. السيد معاون اولمرت ، تل zilberstein ، قال التلفزيون الاسرائيلي ان "المؤتمر الصحفي الذي تغير شيئا". “The Prime Minister was not considering resigning, nor taking a leave of absence, nor any of the other suggestions raised at that press conference,” he said. "رئيس الوزراء لا تفكر في الاستقالة ، ولا أخذ اجازة ، ولا أي من الاقتراحات الاخرى التي أثيرت في مؤتمر صحافي ان". To do so would be tantamount to an admission of offences of which he intends “to prove his innocence”. ان القيام بذلك سيكون بمثابة الاعتراف بالجرائم التي ينوي "لاثبات براءته".
Uncertainty remains about how ready Mr Barak is to carry out his threat to lead his party out of the coalition and so trigger an election which the current polls suggest he would not win. لا يزال الغموض حول كيفية السيد باراك هو على استعداد للاضطلاع تهديدا لقيادة حزبه من الائتلاف وذلك يؤدي الى اجراء انتخابات استطلاعات الرأي الحالية التى تشير الى انه لن يفوز. While some of his allies suggested that the “moral message” he conveyed would increase his popularity, the polls indicate at present that Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud would be the biggest party after any new election. وفي حين أن بعض حلفائه واقترح ان "الرسالة الاخلاقيه" ونقل من شأنه ان يزيد شعبيته ، في الوقت الحاضر تشير استطلاعات الرأي الى ان بنيامين نتنياهو اليميني ليكود سيكون اكبر حزب بعد اي جديد للانتخابات.
The one factor that could alter that landscape would be if Mr Olmert were to be replaced as Kadima leader by Tzipi Livni, the Foreign Minister. فإن أحد العوامل التي يمكن أن تغير هذا المشهد لو ان السيد أولمرت كان من المقرر ان يحل غيره محله زعيم حزب كاديما من قبل تسيبي ليفني ، وزير الخارجية. She has reportedly incurred Mr Olmert’s anger by not notably rallying to his support but she is deemed to be the most popular politician in the country. وتفيد التقارير انها تكبدت السيد أولمرت على غضبه لا سيما عن طريق حشد الدعم لبلده ولكنها يعتبر ان السياسي الاكثر شعبية في البلاد. However, she has rivals within Kadima such as Shaul Mofaz, the former chief of staff in the military who has a base among political activists though much less so in the country. ومع ذلك ، فقد اعربت عن مثيلاتها داخل كاديما مثل شاؤول موفاز ، رئيس الاركان السابق في الجيش من لديه قاعدة بين النشطاء السياسيين على الرغم من ذلك اقل بكثير في هذا البلد.

Concern that these could now grind to a halt were underlined yesterday when Nabil Abu Rudeineh, an aide to Mr Abbas, said there was “no doubt that what is happening in Israel will have negative repercussions on the negotiating track”. القلق من ان هذه التوصيات يمكن الآن لوقف طحن كانت امس عندما شدد نبيل ابو ردينة ، احد مساعدي السيد عباس ، وكان هناك وقال "لا شك في ان ما يحدث في اسرائيل سيكون لها انعكاسات سلبية على مسار المفاوضات".
Sima Kadmon, a columnist for the Yedhiot Ahronot daily, wrote in a front-page commentary yesterday: “The issue here is the unassuming way in which an elected official takes into his hands huge sums of money in cash, credit card or as a loan. سيما kadmon ، عمود لyedhiot ahronot اليوميه ، وكتبت في الصفحات الاولى التعليق امس : "ان الامر هنا هو الطريقة التي متواضع منتخبه الرسمية يأخذ في الحسبان يديه مبالغ ضخمة من المال نقدا ، بطاقات الائتمان او قرض . Where is the shame? اين هو وصمة عار؟ Where are we living?” أين نحن الذين يعيشون؟ "

* Omri Sharon, son of ex-prime minister Ariel Sharon, began a seven-month prison term in February 2008 after conviction on campaign funding violations. * Omri شارون ، نجل رئيس الوزراء السابق ارييل شارون ، بدأ منذ سبعة اشهر في السجن لمدة شباط / فبراير 2008 بعد صدور حكم الادانة على تمويل حملة الانتهاكات. His father is mentioned in the inquiries but has not been charged. والده هو مذكور فى التحقيقات ولكنها لم تحمل.
* Finance minister, Avraham Hirchson, resigned in July 2007 under suspicion of embezzling millions from a union he used to run. * وزير المالية ، افراهام hirchson ، استقال في يوليو / تموز 2007 بشبهه اختلاس الملايين من الاتحاد كان البعيد.
* Israel’s President, Moshe Katsav, forced to resign in June 2007 amid rape and sexual harassment charges. * رئيس اسرائيل ، موشيه كتساب ، اجبر على الاستقالة في حزيران / يونيو 2007 وسط الاغتصاب والتحرش الجنسي التهم الموجهة اليه.
* Olmert ally, Haim Ramon, convicted in March 2007 of forcibly kissing a female soldier. * حليف اولمرت وحاييم رامون ادين في آذار / مارس 2007 قسرا من تقبيل انثى جندي. After a light sentence, Ramon returns to Olmert’s cabinet as Vice Premier. وبعد العقوبات الخفيفه ، رامون العودة الى مجلس الوزراء اولمرت نائب رئيس الوزراء.
* President Ezer Weizman is forced to resign in 2000 under suspicion of accepting money from a businessman. * الرئيس عيزر وايزمان أجبر على الاستقالة في عام 2000 في إطار من الشك وقبول اموال من رجل اعمال.
* Prime Minister Ehud Barak and aides suspected in 2000 of campaign finance irregularities. * رئيس الوزراء ايهود باراك ومعاوني ويشتبه في عام 2000 حملة من المخالفات المالية. No charges are filed. ولم توجه اي تهم الى ترفع.
* Decorated general Yitzhak Mordechai resigns from cabinet in 2000 after being charged with sexually assaulting female workers. * زينت الجنرال اسحاق موردخاي يستقيل من مجلس الوزراء في عام 2000 بعد اتهامهم بالاعتداء جنسيا على العاملات. He is convicted and given suspended sentence. ادين وحكم مع وقف التنفيذ.
* Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suspected in 1997 of engineering appointment of attorney general in exchange for support from the Shas party, but is not charged. * رئيس الوزراء بنيامين نتنياهو في عام 1997 من المشتبه في الهندسه تعيين النائب العام في مقابل الحصول على دعم من حزب شاس ، ولكنها ليست تهمة.
* Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin resigns in 1977 before an election in which his wife is found to have an illegal foreign currency account in the US. * رئيس الوزراء اسحق رابين في عام 1977 قبل ان يستقيل للانتخابات في زوجته هي التي تبين انها غير قانونيه بالعملات الاجنبية في حساب الولايات المتحدة.
