Israel is playing down tensions with its arch-enemy to the north - Syria. اسرائيل تلعب التوترات اسفل القوس - مع العدو الى الشمال -- سوريا. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says Israel is not interested in war with Syria. اعلن رئيس الوزراء الاسرائيلي ايهود اولمرت يقول ان اسرائيل ليست مهتمة في حرب مع سوريا. Speaking behind closed doors to parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Mr. Olmert said he believes tensions between the two countries will subside. تحدث خلف الابواب المغلقه لالشئون الخارجية فى البرلمان و لجنة الدفاع ، والسيد أولمرت عن اعتقاده بان التوترات بين البلدين سوف انحسر.
There have been unconfirmed reports in the foreign press of a secret Israeli air strike on a Syrian nuclear facility more than two weeks ago. وكانت هناك تقارير غير مؤكدة في الصحافة الاجنبية من السرية الاسرائيلية ضربة جوية على منشأة نوويه السورية اكثر من قبل اسبوعين. Syria denies reports that it received nuclear materials from North Korea, but confirms that Israeli jets violated its air space. سوريا تنفى التقارير انه حصل على مواد نوويه من كوريا الشمالية ، ولكنه يؤكد ان طائرات اسرائيلية انتهكت المجال الجوي اعماله.
The incident occurred months after Israel warned of a Syrian military buildup. ووقع الحادث بعد اشهر حذرت اسرائيل من البناء العسكري السوري. Israeli generals said Syria could opt for war to retrieve the strategic Golan Heights, captured by Israel during the Six Day War in 1967. الجنرالات الاسرائيلية ان سوريا يمكن ان يختار الحرب ، لاستعادة مرتفعات الجولان الاستراتيجيه ، التي استولت عليها اسرائيل خلال حرب الايام الستة في عام 1967.
Israeli analyst Alon Liel says suspicions are running deep. المحلل الإسرائيلي آلون liel يقول الشكوك العميقه بالظهور.
“Syria all the time said that it has one hand extended to peace and the other one is preparing for war,” said Liel. "سوريا في كل الاوقات وقال انه من ناحية قد مددت الى السلام والاخر يستعد للحرب" ، وقال liel. “Israel believes the second half, that Syria is preparing for war, and did not believe the peace option.” "وترى اسرائيل في النصف الثاني ، ان سوريا تستعد للحرب ، ولا يعتقد ان خيار السلام".
The United States has signaled that it would invite Syria to an international peace conference expected to take place in November. الولايات المتحدة مؤشرا على ان سوريا ستدعو الى عقد مؤتمر دولي للسلام وينتظر ان تجرى في تشرين الثاني / نوفمبر. Israeli spokesman Mark Regev says Israel would not object to Syrian participation. المتحدث الاسرائيلي مارك regev تقول اسرائيل لن تعارض مشاركة السورية.
“Israel is interested in as many Arab states attending this meeting as possible, states that support peace, that support reconciliation, that oppose terrorism,” said Regev. "اسرائيل يهمها كما في العديد من الدول العربية على حضور هذا الاجتماع قدر الامكان ، والدول التي تدعم السلام ، ان دعم المصالحة ، التي تعارض الارهاب ،" وقال regev.
Israel hopes that if Syria attends the conference it would be pulled away from the radicals and into the camp of the Arab moderates. وتأمل اسرائيل ان سوريا اذا كان يحضر المؤتمر سيكون سحبت بعيدا عن المتطرفين والى المخيم من المعتدلين العرب. At the same time, Israel says it will not resume peace talks until Syria cuts ties with Iran and stops supporting Islamic militant groups, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. وفي الوقت نفسه ، تقول اسرائيل انها لن تستأنف محادثات السلام حتى التخفيضات على صلات وثيقة مع سوريا وايران توقف دعم الجماعات الاسلامية المتشدده ، بما فيها حزب الله في لبنان وحماس في غزة.
