Ron Suskind était sur NPR ce matin pour discuter son nouveau livre La manière du monde, qui allègue l'intelligence Tahir en chef Jalil Habbush de l'Irak a indiqué les USA avant la guerre que l'Irak n'a eu aucun WMD.
NPR a demandé George Tenet et la Maison Blanche pour le commentaire, et, assez remarquablement, eux tous les deux ont essentiellement admis que c'était vraie.
SUSKIND : Ce que nous savons maintenant de cette recherche est qu'on a conduit une mission secrète dans laquelle un directeur britannique, agent d'intelligence, a rencontré la tête de l'intelligence irakienne dans un endroit secret à Amman, Jordanie. Et ce que le chef irakien d'intelligence a dit les Britannique-et essentiellement à Américains, parce que nous sommes tout en cela ensemble-est qu'il n'y avait aucun WMD en Irak. Et ce que ce signifié est que nous avons su tout qui est devenu si évident d'ici l'été après l'invasion. Et le président a pris une décision essentiellement pour ignorer cette intelligence…
NPR : Nous avons appelé les joueurs principaux dans le compte… George Tenet de Ron Suskind dit l'Irakien ne sommes pas persuadés, et un porte-parole de la Maison Blanche ajoute que n'importe quelle information que l'Irakien a pu avoir fourni était, cite, « peu important. »
Davantage de confirmation apparaît dans a Le novembre 2003 New York chronomètre l'histoire par James Risen. L'article levé est au sujet des tentatives de dernière minute par l'Irak d'éviter la guerre, en utilisant un intermédiaire Libanais-Américain appelé Imad Hage qui a connu Richard Perle :
Une semaine [après février 2003 réunions à Beyrouth avec le chef irakien de service d'intelligence des opérations étrangères], M. Hage a indiqué, il était d'accord sur réunions de prise d'autres à Bagdad. Quand il est arrivé, il a été conduit à un grand, bien-gardé composé, où il a été rencontré par un homme gris-d'une chevelure dans un uniforme militaire. C'était Tahir Jalil Habbush, directeur du service d'intelligence irakien, qui est non. 16 sur la liste des Etats-Unis de la plupart des chefs irakiens voulus. M. Ledit M. de Hage. Habbush lui a demandé s'il était vrai qu'il ait connu M. Perle. « Ayez-toi rencontré lui ? »
M. Ledit M. de Hage. Habbush a commencé à exhaler son anéantissement au-dessus de ce que les Américains ont vraiment voulu.
Il a dit cela volonté pour démontrer Irakiens' d'aider à combattre le terrorisme, M. Habbush offered to hand over Abdul Rahman Yasin, who has been indicted in United States in connection with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Mr. Yasin fled to Iraq after the bombing, and the United States put up a $25 million reward for his capture.
Mr. Hage said Mr. Habbush offered to turn him over to Mr. Hage, but Mr. Hage said he would pass on the message that Mr. Yasin was available.
Mr. Hage said Mr. Habbush also insisted that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction and added, “Let your friends send in people and we will open everything to them.”
Mr. Hage said he asked Mr. Habbush, “Why don’t you tell this to the Bush administration?” He said Mr. Habbush replied cryptically, “We have talks with people.”
Mr. Hage said he later learned that one contact was in Rome between the C.I.A. and representatives of the Iraqi intelligence service. American officials confirm that the meeting took place, but say that the Iraqi representative was not a current intelligence official and that the meeting was not productive.
In addition, there was an attempt to set up a meeting in Morocco between Mr. Habbush and United States officials, but it never took place, according to American officials.
This can be added onto the pile:
• The CIA sent thirty relatives of Iraqi scientists to Iraq to ask them what WMD Iraq had, and they uniformly reported it had nothing.
• Iraq’s foreign minister Nouri Sabri secretly told the US in 2002 that Iraq had no active WMD programs.
• Alan Foley, the head of the CIA’s Weapons Intelligence Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Center, told an acquaintance just before the war that he expected we would find “Not much, if anything.”
