US satellites are increasingly vulnerable to attack by space weaponry from other countries, warned Senator Ted Cruz.
The US national security is heavily dependent on satellites which are responsible for everything from military communications to everyday things such as ATM withdrawals.
Senator Cruz described the development of space ammunition as ‘truly chilling’ and warned that both China and Russia are developing anti-satellite technology.
‘I will tell you, some of the classified briefings would take your breath away at the potential threats we face’, Senator Cruz said at a webcast event about space in Washington DC on Tuesday.
‘The development that other countries are making in space weaponry, to take out our communication equipment, is truly chilling’, he said at the event, which was organised by The Atlantic magazine.
