A protest in the US state of Oregon has turned violent as two opposing groups, one pro-Trump, the other anti-Trump clashed in Portland, as violence broke out during a march in support of a conservative Republican candidate for the US Senate.
Clashes between citizens broke-out on Saturday after anti-fascists pelted marchers from the right-wing Patriot Prayer group with eggs, water bottles and firecrackers, the Oregonian newspaper reported.
Things turned ugly shortly after 6 pm, when the pro-Trump Patriot Prayer protesters spilled into Third Avenue to begin their permitted march through the streets of Portland.
The Oregonian reported antifascist counter-demonstrators immediately began lobbing eggs, half-empty water bottles and firecrackers at the conservative marchers, prompting federal police to fire paintballs filled with pepper spray into the crowd.
The Patriot Prayer group’s founder Joey Gibson is running for the Senate.
