A woman in the US state of Texas has been charged with mailing explosive devices designed to assassinate former President Barack Obama and a state governor.
Julia Poff on Thursday stood accused of sending booby-trapped packages to the former US president and Texas Governor Greg Abbott in 2016, with prosecutors claiming that the homemade bombs could have maimed or killed the two government officials if the packages had been opened as intended.
Court documents showed that the 46-year-old woman had been indicted earlier this month on six counts, including mailing injurious articles and transporting explosives with the intent to kill and injure politicians.
Federal investigators said the improvised explosive device sent to Obama contained a cell phone, a cigarette package and a salad dressing cap, adding that the bomb had been detected during screening at the a White House.
