PressTV-US threat breaches Amity deal, ICJ ruling: Iran official

Iran’s United Nations envoy says the United States’ threat of imposing more sanctions on the Islamic Republic violates both the Amity pact between the countries and a UN court ruling against Washington.

Gholam-Ali Khoshroo made the remarks to IRNA on Saturday.

The 1955 Treaty of Amity established economic relations and consular rights between Tehran and Washington. On October 3, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Washington to lift sanctions it had imposed back in May targeting humanitarian trade, food, medicine, and civil aviation.

Khoshroo said the US faced a restraining order, issued by the court until the decree was finalized, that obliged it to “strictly refrain from taking any measures that could exacerbate the situation.”

This is while Washington has said it would slap more sanctions against Iran targeting its energy sector, including oil sales.
