US President Donald Trump says he will “officially” ask Department of Justice to start an investigation into spying on the Trump campaign in 2016, as it is already probing possible collusion between the campaign and Russia.
Trump suggested in a tweet on Sunday that the FBI or the department itself could have spied on the campaign, which ultimately emerged victor in the 2016 presidential election.
“I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes – and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!”
Trump’s call came after days of sounding the alarm on Twitter as the so-called Russia probe was underway to find out possible collusion between the campaign and the Kremlin, an allegation both sides have denied.
