US President Donald Trump thanks North Korea for showing willingness to scrap a nuclear site.
In a tweet on Saturday, the president asserted that such a move would be “a very smart and gracious gesture.”
“North Korea has announced that they will dismantle Nuclear Test Site this month, ahead of the big Summit Meeting on June 12th,” Trump tweeted. “Thank you, a very smart and gracious gesture!”
Pyongyang has announced that it would dismantle the test site by the end of May, just before a scheduled meeting between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 12.
Pyongyang initially announced last month that it would to decommission the site following a thaw in ties with the South and Washington.
The move is expected to take place between May 23-25, “depending on weather condition,”
Trump has been trying to negotiate with North Korea in an effort to denuclearize the country.
