The FBI has raided the office of Michael Cohen, the lawyer of US president Donald Trump, seizing documents about a host of issues, including a 2016 payment he made to porn-star Stormy Daniels to keep her quite about allegations that she had a sexual encounter with Trump.
Cohen’s own lawyer, Stephen Ryan, said in a statement that federal prosecutors in Manhattan obtained a search warrant after receiving a referral “in part” from special counsel Robert Mueller. Ryan called the search “completely inappropriate and unnecessary.”
“Today, the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients,” Ryan said in a statement.
