In a gathering of prominent US Conservatives, President Donald Trump has said an armed officer who did not stop the gunman that killed 17 people last week in a Florida high school massacre was either a “coward” or “didn’t react properly under pressure.”
During his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday, Trump once again emphasized the arming of more teachers and school security guards as a solution to American school shootings.
An armed officer assigned to the Florida school where a gunman killed 17 people last week took cover outside the high school rather than enter the school building and address the killer.
Departing the White House for the Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump told reporters that “when it came time to get in there and do something,” Florida deputy Scot Peterson “didn’t have the courage or something happened.”
