More alienation awaits UK Muslims under May: Pundit

The new British Prime Minister Theresa May has a penchant for Islamophobic policies and Muslim communities in the UK are going to have difficulty under her rule, says Massoud Shadjareh, the head of the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in London.

May “has been known for her xenophobic and Islamophobic tendencies and over the last years of her position as the Home Secretary she has actually committed new acts which are purely Islamophobic,” Shadjareh told Press TV on Thursday.

May, who succeeded David Cameron as prime minister on Wednesday, has pledged to fight extremism by promoting British values like the freedom of speech, the very right she took from Muslim students in British universities by proposing the so-called Counter Terrorism and Security Bill in November 2014.

The bill, which was later passed by the UK parliament, kept Muslim students from voicing their opinions in lectures and seminars for fear of being accused of extremism.
