GOP congressman confident ‘God will take care of climate change’

As concern surrounds Donald Trump’s decision on a key climate deal, one Republican Congressman believes God will “take care of” the global rise in temperature attributed to emissions.

Michigan congressman Tim Walberg does believe in climate change but he’s not convinced mere mortals can do anything about it, feeling instead that a better course of action is to rely on the power of the almighty.

“I believe there’s climate change. I believe there’s been climate change since the beginning of time,” the congressman said during a Coldwater town meeting last Friday. Walberg didn’t specify what he believed to be the beginning of time.

He continued, “I think there are cycles. Do I think man has some impact? Yeah, of course. Can man change the entire universe? No,” he said categorically.

Walberg then elaborated on his beliefs: “Why do I believe that? Well, as a Christian, I believe that there is a creator in God who is much bigger than us. And I’m confident that, if there’s a real problem, he can take care of it.”

Some of Walberg’s audience grumbled in seeming dissatisfaction, though at least one man can be heard saying, “That’s right.”

Walberg’s remarks come as President Donald Trump is poised to pull the US out of the historic 2015 Paris Agreement, a deal signed by almost every country on the planet to tackle climate change.

President Trump will announce his decision on the agreement at 3pm (ET) on Thursday, June 1.
