Fury or praise? Love Island fans’ mixed reaction to Ellie Jones’ ‘support’ for Tommy Robinson — RT UK News

Love Island contestant Ellie Jones’ apparent support for ex-EDL leader Tommy Robinson sparked a flood of reaction online with some fans calling for her to be axed from the show while others applauded her for expressing her views.

Jones came under fire after it emerged the 22-year-old appeared to show support for English Defence League (EDL) founder Robinson, who is currently serving a ten-month prison sentence for contempt of court.

In one Facebook post, she shared a video of Robinson speaking at a rally where he was fiercely critical of the UK’s immigration policy. She captioned it with three ‘OK’ emojis. Another post saw three clapping emojis captioning a video of Robinson entitled: “Tommy Robinson: ‘Why do we let these terrorists back into our country?’ (Strong language).”

Screenshots of the posts were shared online, sparking outcry among Love Island viewers.

One fan tweeted: “Wish Ellie would have followed her mate Tommy Robinson to prison instead of Jack to Majorca.”

Another user stressed the need for her to be removed from the ITV program as she noted it was called ‘Love Island’, not ‘Hate Island’.

But other fans backed Jones and hit back at the criticism which has been leveled at the Love Islander. People also criticized The Mirror newspaper, who originally published the story about Jones’s social media posts. One called into question the tabloid’s description of Robinson as “violent” while another suggested the paper was simply trying to manufacture controversy.
