4 American tourists attacked with acid in France

Four American tourists have been attacked with acid in the French city of Marseille, police have confirmed.

The young women were standing at the city’s main Saint Charles metro station on Sunday, when a female attacker poured acid on them, a source in Marseille’s police department told The Associated Press.

The tourists, all in their 20s, were all taken to hospital after two of them sustained facial injuries and deep burns while the other two were treated for shock.

Police said they had arrested a 41-year-old woman as a possible suspect. The sources refused to provide more details about the suspect and the victims.

It was not clear whether the attacker had ties to any terror groups.

Located in southern France, Marseille is closer to Spain’s Barcelona than it is to Paris.
