Hold onto your hats, the Warehouse Project have just announced that DJ Shadow is going to be the special guest at the Red Bull Music Academy’s takeover of the Manchester space in early November. Having finished extensively touring his last album The Less You Know The Better, the pioneer of instrumental hip-hop will be playing a series of special DJ sets across the globe this autumn, including the aforementioned WHP date.
DJ Shadow will be joining an impressively stacked bill, with sets from Flying Lotus,Squarepusher, Jamie XX, Shed, Martyn and many others already previously confirmed. It’s also a somewhat fitting return for the California resident, given that he was present for the closing evening at the WHP’s old Store Street venue. What with Flying Lotus also being on hand, I guess you can consider this the hip-hop baptism of WHP’s new Victoria Warehouse venue.
Josh Davis (aka DJ Shadow) first rose to prominence in the early ‘90s, emerging as a spearhead figure in the fledgling trip-hop and instrumental hip-hop scenes. When his debut album Entroducing touched down in 1996, constructed wholly of samples, it was hailed as something of an instant classic – and even made it into the Guiness Book Of World Records as the ‘First Completely Sampled Album’. Since then, Davis hasn’t really slowed down, recording a further three artist albums, numerous mixes, working with JamesLavelle as part of UNKLE, scoring a number of films and gaining notoriety for his jaw-dropping live performances. Expect this to be something special.DJ Shadow will be performing at WHP x RBMA at The Warehouse Project on Friday 2nd November 2012.
